Chickenfoot returns to the studio January 29

This will be an interesting year in the, so-far, short existence of rock supergroup Chickenfoot.

With Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith all productive musicians with their own careers, the four rock veterans face 2011 with plans for a new album and tour – with one man short.

Smith’s duties with the Red Hot Chili Peppers will consume most of the year as that band returns with a new record and tour, leaving Chickenfoot to make alternate plans for the drummer’s seat, come tour time.

All that said, Rich’s Music Exchange caught up with Michael last weekend at the NAMM music industry trade show in Anaheim to get an update on the ‘Foot.

“We’re going back into the studio January 29,” said Anthony, “and we’re gonna be working on a new album.” As for a tour? “Hopefully – if people wanna hear it, we’re out there to play it.”
