VIDEO: James Durbin rocks Paul McCartney classic on American Idol

That “metal guy” on American Idol, James Durbin, brought a different look to the show this week.

Following last week’s barrage of “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming” by Judas Priest, Durbin spoke to the press about bringing more metal to the festivities.

“I want to do some metal like Iron Maiden, ACDC, Ozzy, Sabbath,” Durbin told TV Guide.

Well, James switched things up Wednesday night, as the series gave the final 13 contestants a chance to perform a song by their very own idols.

Durbin did a solid job on Paul McCartney’s 1976 classic, “Maybe I’m Amazed.”

While James didn’t bring his full metal scream to the song (and it didn’t call for it, anyway), he did manage to impress with some vocal nuances that worked well throughout the song, displaying control and a slightly more subtle side, which should bode well for him on Thursday night’s results show.
