The Rolling Stones record new song with Paul McCartney

The Rolling Stones have recorded a song with Paul McCartney for the band’s next studio album.

CNN reports that a representative for the Stones confirmed via email that McCartney plays bass “on just one RS track.”

Denying press reports that the collaboration also includes the Beatles’ other surviving member, the spokesman said the recording featured “no Ringo Starr at all.”

More details about the project were made public by Rolling Stone, who reports the band have spent the past several weeks recording new music in Los Angeles with producer Andrew Watt (Post Malone, Ozzy Osbourne, Miley Cyrus, among many others), and the project is nearing the mixing phase.

Keith Richards previously revealed that The Rolling Stones would complete the new record with Steve Jordan following the passing of Charlie Watts in 2021.

“We do have a lot of stuff of Charlie Watts still in the can,” explained the guitarist last spring. “We were halfway through making an album when he died… Of course, if we want to carry on recording, we’re gonna need drums, and it’s gonna be Steve Jordan.”

The project would mark the follow-up to the Stones’ most recent album of originals, 2005’s “A Bigger Bang”, and the 2016 covers collection, “Blue & Lonseome.”

The Rolling Stones just released a new package, “GRRR Live!”, which delivers the group’s 2012 show at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center that was originally broadcast via pay-per-view as part of the 50 & Counting Tour.

“GRRR Live!” is now available in multiple formats, including 3LP black, 3LP coloured white (Indies exclusive) 3LP red (d2c exclusive), 2CD, DVD + 2CD, BluRay+ 2CD; the Blu-ray and digital versions also include Dolby Atmos.

Dave Grohl jams with Paul McCartney at Glastonbury

Dave Grohl jammed with Paul McCartney during his headlining set at the UK’s Glastonbury Festival on June 25.

Delivering his first live appearance since the March 25 passing of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins while on tour in South America, Grohl arrived at center stage to join McCartney for his 1973 classic, “Band On The Run”; video footage of the song is being shared by the BBC.

As the Foo leader exited, Bruce Springsteen arrived to perform his 1984 hit, “Glory Days”, and a cover of The Beatles classic, “I Wanna Be Your Man” – reprising the pair of songs the two performed during McCartney’s June 16 show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

Grohl and Springsteen returned at the end of the evening to help out on the night’s final encore – a performance of The Beatles“The End.”

An all-star lineup will honor the late Foo Fighters rocker during a pair of Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts this fall, including a September 3 show at London’s Wembley Stadium and a September 27 event at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

Get your copy of “Band On The Run” here and the Foo Fighters’ “Greatest Hits” here.

Bruce Springsteen performs with Paul McCartney in New Jersey

Bruce Springsteen joined Paul McCartney onstage during his June 16 concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

As Rolling Stone notes, Springsteen took the mic for a rendition of his 1984 hit, “Glory Days”, and the Beatles’ classic, “I Wanna Be Your Man.”

Later in the evening, Jon Bon Jovi appeared to sing “Happy Birthday” to McCartney, who turns 80 on June 18.

Springsteen returned for the show’s encore – a performance of the Beatles“The End”, which closed out the event and the final show of McCartney’s North American spring tour.

Springsteen was last seen at the same venue in his home state on June 5 when he joined Coldplay for a pair of his songs during the second show of the band’s two-night stand there.

Springsteen will return to the road with the E Street Band next February for a series of to-be-announced US arena dates, while he has already revealed the schedule for summer 2023 shows in Europe.

The Rolling Stones pay tribute to The Beatles in Liverpool

The Rolling Stones paid tribute to The Beatles during a June 9 concert at Anfield Stadium in the band’s hometown of Liverpool, UK.

“We had decided to rehearse a special version of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,'” Mick Jagger told the crowd, referencing the 1960s hit by Gerry And The Pacemakers that serves as the anthem of local soccer team Liverpool FC, who play at Anfield, “but we decided instead to do a cover song written by other local lads, so we’ll do this especially for you.”

The Stones then launched into their version of the John Lennon-Paul McCartney song, “I Wanna Be Your Man”, for the first time in a decade.

Lennon-McCartney originally gave the song to the Stones in 1963 – who released it as their second single and went on to have a Top 15 UK hit with it – before The Beatles issued their own recording of the track on their second album, “With The Beatles.”

The Liverpool event marked the third date of the Stones’ 60th anniversary tour, following shows in Madrid, Spain and Munich, Germany.

“From Liverpool with love!,” shared the Stones on social media after the concert. “It was great to see you all tonight.”

The 2022 tour will continue with a June 13 appearance in Amsterdam.

Paul McCartney to induct Foo Fighters into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Paul McCartney will induct the Foo Fighters into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame during the 36th annual Induction event on October 30.

McCartney met Dave Grohl in 2002 and the pair have gone on to become friends, according to the Foos frontman, who recently shared a story with UK television host Graham Norton about the time The Beatle and his wife stopped by his house for a visit while in Los Angeles.

“We have wine and pizza and we were hanging out, and it was time for Paul to go,” recounted Grohl on The Graham Norton Show. “Paul and [his wife] Nancy were leaving and there was a piano in the corner of the room, and he just can’t help himself. So he sits down at the piano and starts playing ‘Lady Madonna’… In my f**king house! My mind is blown, I can’t believe this is happening. This is like the most crazy full-circle moment of my entire life.

“My daughter Harper, who I think was five at the time, is watching Paul McCartney on the piano and she goes to the kitchen and gets a coffee cup, puts some change in it and puts it on top of the piano like it’s a tip jar,”
he continued. “She’d never taken a lesson to play any instrument at that point and she sat down and watched his hands. They sat together, and he was showing her what to play, and they wrote a song together.”

When he woke up the next day, Grohl said he heard Harper playing “the song they’d written the night before.”

In 2012, McCartney performed the track, “Give Me Some Slack”, with the surviving members of Nirvana at the 12-12-12 benefit concert in New York City and, once again, days later during an appearance on Saturday Night Live; a studio version was released and included on the soundtrack to Grohl’s 2013 documentary, “Sound City.”

Grohl will become a two-time inductee at the upcoming event; he was previously honored as a member of Nirvana in 2014.

The Rock Hall has announced some of the other presenters for the 201 event: Angela Bassett will welcome Tina Turner; Taylor Swift will recognize Carole King; Drew Barrymore will introduce The Go-Go’s; and, Lionel Richie will induct Clarence Avant for the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Organizers have yet to announce who will induct Jay-Z, Todd Rundgren, Kraftwerk, Charley Patton, Gil Scott-Heron, Billy Preston or Randy Rhoads.

The 36th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 30 at 8 p.m. ET at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio with a radio simulcast on SiriusXM’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Radio channel 310; the Induction Ceremony will air at a later date on HBO and stream on HBO Max.

Peter Jackson previews The Beatles documentary Get Back

Director Peter Jackson has released an exclusive sneak peek of his upcoming documentary, “The Beatles: Get Back.”

Shot in January 1969 and compiled from over 60 hours of unseen footage (filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg) and more than 150 hours of unheard audio, all of which has been restored, “The Beatles: Get Back” is the story of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr as they plan their first live show in over two years and charts the writing and rehearsing of 14 new songs, originally intended for release on an accompanying live album.

The film features for the first time in its entirety, The Beatles' last live performance as a group – a rooftop concert on London’s Savile Row – as well as other songs featured on the band’s final two albums, “Abbey Road” and “Let It Be.”

The preview delivers a montage of footage from the project, which is scheduled to debut in cinemas on August 27, 2021

“We wanted to give the fans of The Beatles all over the world a holiday treat,” says Jackson, “so we put together this five-minute sneak peek at our upcoming theatrical film ‘The Beatles: Get Back.’ We hope it will bring a smile to everyone’s faces and some much-needed joy at this difficult time.”

Iron Maiden, Whitesnake and Evanescence members jam 1973 classic Live And Let Die

Members of Iron Maiden, Whitesnake and Evanescence are streaming video of a brief jam version of the 1973 Paul McCartney And Wings classic, “Live And Let Die.”

The footage is part of a series entitled “1 minute jammms”, organized by Evanescence guitarist Jen Majura – who also handles vocals on this track.

“Please give it up for this week's phenomenal 1min jammers: Iron Maiden's very own Nicko McBrain on drums and Whitesnake's Joel Hoekstra on guitar!,” says Majura. “We gathered digitally to jam the ultimate '73 classic ‘Live And Let Die’ for you - hope you'll enjoy!”

The theme song for the James Bond film of the same name was a Top 5 hit in several countries and reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 while selling more than a million copies in the region.

Iron Maiden cancelled their full touring plans for the year and rescheduled shows to 2021 due to the pandemic, while Whitesnake also shut down their live schedule as David Coverdale revealed plans to undergo hernia surgery; Evanescence recently released their new single, “Use My Voice.”

Megadeth: Dave Mustaine and daughter rock Beatles classic in quarantine

Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine and his daughter Electra can be seen covering The Beatles’ classic, “Come Together”, in a new Instagram video.

“Right now... QUARANTINE!,” writes Electra. “Here’s a lil’ #MyMusicMoment with my dad, @davemustaine, someone who I’d never want to lose! THAT is why the Mustaine’s stay home. We hope you do too!🖤🏡 🧼 Wash your hands, 😷 practice social distancing, 😊 & stay healthy."

The guitarist recently returned to the stage for shows earlier this year following his diagnosis and recovery from throat cancer.

The Instagram video post also sees Mustaine’s daughter sharing details about “Music Moments”, a new project featuring covers of classic tunes by a variety of artists in support of The Alzheimer's Association; Dave’s late mother-in-law, 76-year-old Sally Estabrook, was in the "severe" stage of Alzheimer's when she went missing and was found dead in November 2014.

Learn more about the “Music Moments” set at alz.org.

Megadeth are currently planning to resume their live schedule in June when they hit the road for a co-headlining tour of North America with Lamb Of God.

The records are accompanied by a 40-page booklet with photos, ephemera, and detailed essays by Beatles historian Kevin Howlett.

The Beatles: Abbey Road returns to US Top 10 after five decades

The Beatles’ “Abbey Road” has returned to the US Top 10 for the first time in five decades.

According to Billboard, a series of 50th anniversary reissues has pushed the project from No. 71 to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 after selling 81,000 equivalent album units and earning an 803% increase over the previous sales window.

“Abbey Road” spent 11 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in late 1969 and early 1970, and last appeared in the US Top 10 on April 25, 1970.

The 2019 reissues deliver a new mix of the full original record by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell alongside 23 session recordings and demos, most of which have not been previously available.

The US chart news follows headlines from the UK, where “Abbey Road” made chart history when it landed at No. 1 and set a new Guinness Book Of World Record for the longest time for an album to do so in the country at 49 years and 252 days.

The Beatles: Abbey Road makes UK chart history

The Beatles’ iconic “Abbey Road” album has made UK chart history as it returns to the top of the charts with a series of 50th anniversary reissues.

The feat of returning to No. 1 after a record-breaking 49 years and 252 days has been officially recognized as a Guinness World Record for the longest time for an album to do so in the country, as “Abbey Road” regains top spot for the first time since its initial 17-week run ended on January 31, 1970.

This new milestone extends The Beatles’ own record, previously held by “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, which topped the charts in June 2017 after a gap of 49 years, 125 days.

“It’s hard to believe that Abbey Road still holds up after all these years,” says Paul McCartney. “But then again, it’s a bloody cool album.”

The “Abbey Road” reissue delivers a 2019 mix of the full original record by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell, as well as a variety of session recordings and demos, most of which were previously-unreleased.

The Beatles release new video for Here Comes The Sun

The Beatles are streaming a video for the new 2019 mix of the track, “Here Comes The Sun”, as the latest preview to the 50th anniversary reissue of their 1969 album classic “Abbey Road.”

Issued five decades to the day of the set’s release and directed by Trunk Animation’s Alasdair Brotherston and Jock Mooney, Rolling Stone notes that the clip features vintage photos of the group floating throughout Abbey Road Studios’ Studio Two, where they cut the iconic album; photographed by Linda McCartney, the images fly past instruments, rising up above Ringo Starr’s drum kit to form a gigantic, golden sun.

The clip shifts to animation of the Fab Four’s feet crossing the famous road, with a white bird watching over them; it concludes with footage of the band’s final photo session on May 4, 1969, nearly a year before they announced their breakup in 1970. The group stands in England’s Tittenhurst Park surrounded by wildflowers, on the same grounds as John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s home Berkshire.

Due September 27, the “Abbey Road” reissues will deliver a 2019 mix of the full original record alongside 23 session recordings and demos, most of which have not been previously available.

The Beatles’ eleventh album topped the charts in several countries on its way to eventual worldwide sales of more than 31 million copies; the project was inducted into the US Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1995.

A series of 50th anniversary packages will include a Super Deluxe Edition, limited edition four-disc CD/Blu-ray and 3LP box sets, Deluxe 2CD, single CD and vinyl as well as digital and streaming versions.

The Beatles announce Abbey Road 50th anniversary releases

The Beatles will mark the 50th anniversary of “Abbey Road” this fall with a series of expanded releases.

Due September 27, the legendary record will be reissued with a new 2019 mix alongside 23 session recordings and demos, most of which are previously-unreleased.

A Super Deluxe Box Set delivers 40 tracks – including “The Long One” Trial Edit & Mix for the album’s epic Side 2 medley – on three CDs (stereo) and one Blu-ray disc (Dolby Atmos, 96kHz/24 bit high resolution stereo, and 96 kHz/24 bit DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1). A 100-page hardbound book – with foreword by Paul McCartney – traces, among other things, notes from recording sessions to the cover art photo shoot on the famous sidewalk outside the London studio.

A Super Deluxe digital audio edition presents all 40 tracks for download and streaming in standard and MFiT formats, as well as in high resolution audio (96kHz/24 bit) for download.

A limited edition “Abbey Road” Deluxe vinyl box set features all 40 tracks from the Super Deluxe collection on three 180-gram vinyl LPs, while a Deluxe 2CD set pairs the new stereo mix with versions taken from the session takes and demo recordings of its 17 songs, sequenced to match the album’s running order.

The album’s new stereo mix is also available in 1CD and 180-gram 1LP vinyl packages, for digital download in standard and MFiT audio, and on a limited edition picture disc vinyl LP illustrated by the album’s front and back cover art images.

The Beatles’ eleventh album, “Abbey Road” topped the charts in several countries on its way to eventual worldwide sales of more than 31 million copies; the project was inducted into the US Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1995.

“The Beatles recording journey had gone through many twists and turns, learning curves and thrilling rides,” writes McCartney in his foreword. “Here we were – still wondering at the magic of it all.”

“The magic comes from the hands playing the instruments, the blend of The Beatles’ voices, the beauty of the arrangements,” Giles Martin explains in his written introduction for the new edition. “Our quest is simply to ensure everything sounds as fresh and hits you as hard as it would have on the day it was recorded.”

The 50th anniversary “Abbey Road” packages are being previewed with an official video trailer, an unboxing video, and streaming audio of three versions of the George Harrison classic, “Something”, including a 2019 stereo mix, a demo and an instrumental take featuring strings only.

Steven Tyler joined Paul McCartney for a performance of The Beatles classic, “Helter Skelter”, during a June 28 show at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

“Need I say more?” posted the Aerosmith rocker on social media alongside video of his guest appearance during the first of two weekend concerts by McCartney at the venue.

Tyler is the city as Aerosmith continue their “Deuces Are Wild” residency at the Park Theater at the Park MGM hotel.

The Boston band teamed up with producer Giles Martin – known for creating the soundscape for "The Beatles Love" by Cirque du Soleil show – for the series, which is billed as “one of the most immersive, state-of-the art audio and video technology experiences in Las Vegas.”

In sync with the latest run of dates, Aerosmith recently opened their own museum to showcase items they’ve collected over their nearly 50 years together.

The exhibit presents a living timeline of the group’s career, featuring everything from Tyler’s high school drum set and an array of his signature scarfs to the band’s first press kit, original lyrics for “Walk This Way,” over 20 guitars played during iconic performances, and much more.

Paul McCartney streams Dear Friend demo from Wild Life reissue

Paul McCartney is streaming a previously-unreleased demo recording of “Dear Friend”, from the forthcoming Wings reissue of their 1971 album, “Wild Life.”

The tune is the John Lennon-inspired closing track of the group’s debut record.

“With ‘Dear Friend,’ that’s sort of me talking to John after we’d had all the sort of disputes about The Beatles breakup," says McCartney. "I find it very emotional when I listen to it now. I have to sort of choke it back. I remember when I heard the song recently, listening to the roughs [remastering works-in-progress] in the car and I thought, ‘Oh God.’ That lyric: ‘Really truly, young and newly wed,’ listening to that was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s true.’ I’m trying to say to John, ‘Look, you know, it’s all cool. Have a glass of wine. Let’s be cool.’”

“And luckily we did get it back together, which was like a great source of joy because it would have been terrible if he’d been killed as things were at that point and I’d never got to straighten it out with him. This was me reaching out. So, I think it’s very powerful in some very simple way. But it was certainly heartfelt.”

McCartney is also streaming a newly-remastered version of “Dear Friend” from the reissue, which will be released – alongside 1973’s "Red Rose Speedway" – on December 7.

“Wild Life” was recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios in just over a week during the summer of 1971, with more than half of the songs completed live in a single take.

The album reached No. 10 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to gold status in the country for sales of 500,000 copies.

The 2018 “Wild Life” reissue is a 3CD, 1DVD limited deluxe edition that includes a remastered album alongside 25 bonus audio tracks including rough mixes of the album, original single edits, B-sides, home recordings and other previously unreleased material across three CDs.

The set’s DVD features rare footage of acoustic home videos, rehearsals and more. A download redemption card will provide access to all audio in HD 24/96kHz unlimited high-resolution versions.

The Beatles: White Album returns to US Top 10

The Beatles’ legendary self-titled 1968 record – aka the White Album – has returned to the US Top 10.

Billboard reports the set’s newly-released 50th anniversary reissue re-enters the Billboard 200 at No. 6 following opening week sales of 63,000 units, of which 52,000 were in traditional album sales.

The project presents a 2018 stereo mix of the record by producer Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell, marking the first time the double album has been remixed and delivered with additional demos and session recordings.

“In remixing ‘The White Album,’ we’ve tried to bring you as close as possible to The Beatles in the studio,” explains Martin in his written introduction for the new edition. “We’ve peeled back the layers of the ‘Glass Onion’ with the hope of immersing old and new listeners into one of the most diverse and inspiring albums ever made.”

The White Album previously spent nine nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 between December 28, 1968 and March 1, 1969.

Among the multiple expanded versions of the record are a 7-disc Super Deluxe box set package, a 3CD Deluxe edition and a 2LP vinyl version.

The Beatles stream Back In The U.S.S.R. lyric video

The Beatles are streaming a new lyric video for the 2018 mix of their 1968 classic, “Back In The U.S.S.R.”, ahead of its inclusion on the November 9 release of a series of 50th anniversary reissues of The White Album.

The clip for the opening track on the legendary double album follows a previous preview of three different versions of the song from the reissue, including the new 2018 stereo mix by producer Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell, an instrumental backing track from studio sessions, and an early acoustic version from the Esher demo series.

“The White Album” debuted and/or reached the top of the charts in countries around the world upon its original release, while it went on to earn 19x Platinum status in the US for sales of 9.5 million copies.

Much of the material for the record was written while The Beatles were on a retreat with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India in early 1968.

“We had left Sgt. Pepper’s band to play in his sunny Elysian Fields and were now striding out in new directions without a map,” says Paul McCartney in his written introduction for the new releases.

Among the multiple expanded versions of the project are a 7-disc Super Deluxe box set package, a 3CD Deluxe edition and a 2LP vinyl version, with all formats presenting a new 2018 remix of the landmark record.
