Van Halen's Jump voted top sports song

Just in time for the start of the London Olympics, a UK music industry organization has named Van Halen’s “Jump” as the most popular sporting song in a new poll of its members.

NME reports PRS for Music [Performing Rights Society] polled its members recently to determine their selection, with the US rockers’ 1984 hit landing in top spot.

"We are so excited about the Olympic Games and music plays such a classic role for both the spectator and participant,” said PRS Chairman Guy Fletcher. “As a Brit I would have to vote for Spandau Ballet's 'Gold' being a personal favorite. We have such a strong team of athletes this year too - I think we might get a few of those, fingers crossed."

“Jump” remains Van Halen’s only #1 US single; it also topped the charts in Canada and Italy and was Top 10 in many countries – including the UK, where it reached #7.
