VIDEO: Bruce Springsteen performs at Obama rally in Virginia

Just two weeks before the US election, Bruce Springsteen performed at a Charlottesville, Virginia rally for President Obama on Tuesday.

It was Bruce’s third campaign appearance in a week, following similar events in Parma, OH and Ames, IA last week.

Bruce was introduced by former Virginia Governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine.

Steve Eisenstadt of Backstreets.com reports Springsteen walked onstage at 3:18 pm and, after embracing Kaine, said, “I heard there was a good band playing nearby tonight.”

Springsteen was in town to play the city’s John Paul Jones Arena that evening, and took time in his schedule to make an afternoon appearance on behalf of the President.

The Boss played a 6-song set that included “No Surrender,” “Promised Land,” “The River,” “We Take Care of Our Own” and “Thunder Road.”

In the middle of the performance, Springsteen introduced a new song.

“Occasionally, late at night, the President gives me a phone call. Once twice a week it happens, it’s getting kind of annoying, actually.” Impersonating Obama, Springsteen said, “Bruce. Bruce. Bruce. I need a campaign song.”

Springsteen then performed the new number, “Forward.”

Springsteen and The E Street Band are currently touring North America in support of Bruce’s latest album, “Wrecking Ball.”
