Bruce Springsteen debuts at #1 on US album charts

Bruce Springsteen’s “Wrecking Ball” has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Billboard reports that, with sales of 196,000, Springsteen just barely outsold Adele’s “21” (195,000) to bump it from the top spot, where it’s been for 23 non-consecutive weeks.

It’s Bruce’s tenth #1 album on Billboard, which ties the New Jersey rocker with Elvis Presley for the third most #1’s in history; only The Beatles (with 19) and Jay-Z (12) have more.

Springsteen's first #1 came with 1980's "The River." He last hit the top with his 2009 album "Working on a Dream," which launched with 224,000.

"Wrecking Ball" is also the Boss' 17th top 10 album, stretching back to 1975's "Born to Run," which spent three weeks at #3.

Earlier this week, Springsteen earned his ninth UK #1 with sales of 74,000 copies.

Springsteen and the E Street Band launch their 2012 tour this Sunday (18) in Atlanta.
