VIDEO: Metallica pay tribute to Green Day in New Orleans

Metallica paid tribute to Bay Area pals Green Day at the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans on Saturday.

The metal legends headlined the second of the three-day event at New Orleans City Park following a cancellation by the punk rockers.

Green Day recently ceased all live and promotional appearances in support of their newly-released album “¡Uno!” following an onstage meltdown by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong in Las Vegas, which resulted in the singer currently seeking treatment for substance abuse.

“They’re getting help, alright, they’re getting it sorted out,” Metallica’s James Hetfield told the New Orleans crowd. “We’re here stepping up for them. Hopefully, he gets it together ‘cause the world needs them, alright. I think so.”

Metallica then jammed the opening of the title track to Green Day’s monster 2004 album, “American Idiot,” before launching into their own classic, “Creeping Death.”
