Joe Satriani: 25th Anniversary of Surfing With The Alien on In The Studio

In The Studio marks the 25th Anniversary of guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani’s groundbreaking album, "Surfing With The Alien."

Few guitarists possess the technical skill and melodic taste of Joe Satriani, affectionately called "Satch" by friends and fans. As his pupils (rock notables Steve Vai and Metallica's Kirk Hammett, to name just a couple) became famous, Satriani became recognized in his own right.

Satriani's 1987 multi-million-selling "Surfing With The Alien" album rewarded the guitar instrumentalist, putting him in a unique class of gifted axemen and providing huge opportunities to spread his musical wings.

"To tell you the truth, it was great. It sure beats obscurity and poverty! [laughs],” Joe tells host Redbeard. “I mean, I wouldn't complain for a second about that. Because suddenly people were playing me on the radio, guys like yourself were pioneering the record out there. That's really the goal, to get people to start hearing your stuff."

These days, Satriani’s solo projects continue in addition to his work with Chickenfoot.
