AUDIO: Chickenfoot stream new song Divine Termination

Chickenfoot are streaming their new single, “Divine Termination”, ahead of its appearance on the March 10 release of their compilation, “Best + Live.”

The supergroup of Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith debuted the tune last spring during the band's two reunion shows at Harrah's Lake Tahoe.

The two-disc “Best + Live” package presents tracks from the band’s two studio albums alongside audio from a 2009 concert in Phoenix, AZ originally only available as video on the 2010 DVD/Blu-ray "Get Your Buzz On."

"Listening to this collection of songs from the ‘Foot brings back memories of some of the most fun I've ever had in a band,” says Hagar. “The chemistry between Chad, Joe, Mike and me is very special. It's almost like visual music -- you can see us having fun when you listen to these songs."

Chickenfoot’s ability to regroup for live shows and recording has been a challenge based on the schedules of its members, with Hagar touring solo and with Anthony in The Circle, Satriani’s solo albums and tours and Smith’s work with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

After disappointing sales for their first two records, a frustrated Hagar revealed in 2014 that the group had no plans to record albums in the future.

“Going through the whole experience with a record label,” explained Hagar, “and then going out and doing 150 interviews, a big tour and waking up at 4:00 a.m. to go on Howard Stern all to sell 35,000 CDs…It starts to feel like, ‘Hmmmm. Is this pay for play?’"

“I mean, I love making music,” he added. “But doing it on Chickenfoot's level means spending a half million on a record. We write and record for six months. It's a lot of work, and then to not sell many records. It's disappointing. I don't like being disappointed. I like winning.”

Chickenfoot’s 2009 debut achieved gold status for US sales of 500,000, while the sophomore effort failed to hit that mark; it did, however, earn a 2012 Grammy Award nomination in the “Best Recording Package” category.

Chickenfoot debuted a new song, “Divine Termination”, on May 7 during the first of the band's two reunion shows at Harrah's Lake Tahoe.

“We're taking a big chance playing this,” frontman Sammy Hagar told the crowd. “The first day of rehearsal we played it and I put it on my Instagram and I just put the last chorus.”

Hagar previously revealed plans to debut the tune sometime this year.

"I wrote the lyrics while on an airplane to Cabo," Hagar told Rolling Stone last fall. "It's a dark tune, but it's cool. It's a really raw production and a giant step for the 'Foot."

The May 7 & 8 concerts in Tahoe marked the first time in years that Hagar, guitarist Joe Satriani, bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Chad Smith have regrouped to perform a full show.

The supergroup last toured in 2012 in support of their second album, “Chickenfoot III.”

Hagar credits Satriani with keeping the lineup together and moving forward.

"Joe really keeps Chickenfoot's foot on the fire," explains Hagar. "He really wants the band to stay together, and we have definitely not broken up."

Going through the whole experience with a record label, and then going out and doing 150 interviews, a big tour and waking up at 4:00 a.m. to go on Howard Stern all to sell 35,000 CDs…It starts to feel like, ‘Hmmmm. Is this pay for play?’"

Satriani recently confirmed the group recorded a new song called “Before I Die.”

"We're the slowest-working band in history; we take forever,” he said. “But there is stuff happening, and we're still laughing and communicating."

Hagar has been busy with his latest supergroup, The Circle, which includes Anthony; Satriani is currently on tour in support of his latest album, “Shockwave Supernova”; and Smith continues to record and perform with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Chickenfoot add second reunion concert

Supergroup Chickenfoot have added a second reunion show this spring due to “overwhelming fan demand.”

The sold-out May 7 date at Harrah's Lake Tahoe will now be followed by a May 8 appearance at the venue, marking the first time in years that Sammy Hagar, guitarist Joe Satriani, bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Chad Smith have regrouped to perform a full show.

A fan club presale – including VIP packages – starts March 15 (code: FOOTSOLDIER) with general public tickets available March 18 at 10 AM PDT via Ticketmaster.

Chickenfoot last toured in 2012 in support of their second album, “Chickenfoot III.”

Since then, the members have been busy with other projects: Hagar with his latest supergroup, The Circle, which includes Anthony; Satriani is currently on tour in support of his latest album, “Shockwave Supernova”; and Smith continues to record and perform with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The band last played a surprise 3-song encore at Hagar's 2014 Birthday Bash in Las Vegas.

Joe Satriani expands North American tour

Joe Satriani has revealed additional North American dates for his 2016 Surfing To Shockwave tour.

Following previously-announced shows starting February 25 at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre, the guitarist adds a month’s worth of dates starting March 21 in Durham, NC.

Tickets for the new dates will go on sale starting October 30.

The Surfing To Shockwave tour will see Satriani teamed with keyboardist and guitarist Mike Keneally, drummer Marco Minnemann and bassist Bryan Beller, the same lineup that recorded his latest effort, “Shockwave Supernova.”

The shows will also feature tracks from Satriani’s 30-year career while marking the anniversary of his 1986 debut, “Not Of This Earth.”

The guitarist is currently playing dates on a European tour that wraps up on November 10 in London.

Joe Satriani announces North American tour

Joe Satriani has announced dates for the first North American leg of his 2016 Surfing To Shockwave tour.

The 45-date run will see the guitarist perform an evening of music spotlighting his 30-year career while marking the anniversary of his 1986 debut, “Not Of This Earth”, and promoting his latest effort, “Shockwave Supernova.”

The tour opens February 25 at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre with tickets going on sale starting September 25.

“Shockwave Supernova” was recorded late last year at Skywalker Sound in Lucas Valley, CA; the guitarist co-produced the project with John Cuniberti.

Last week, Satriani launched a European tour in support of his 15th album, which delivered the legendary axeman his highest US chart debut at No. 19 on the Billboard 200. The feat ranks as the highest charting all-instrumental rock album on Billboard’s chart in the SoundScan era.

Joe Satriani debuts Shockwave Supernova on US charts

Joe Satriani’s “Shockwave Supernova” has landed the guitarist the highest US chart position of his career.

Satriani’s 15th album debuts on the Billboard 200 Current Albums Chart at No. 19, topping his former best, 1992’s “The Extremist”, which entered the chart at No. 22.

“Shockwave Supernova” also debuted on the Billboard Rock Chart at No. 3 and ranks as the highest charting all-instrumental rock album on Billboard’s Top 200 in the Soundscan era.

The project was recorded late last year at Skywalker Sound in Lucas Valley, CA; the guitarist co-produced the project with John Cuniberti.

Satriani will appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, August 4.

The guitarist will be sitting in with The Roots during the program, playing some tracks off the new album as well as some older favorites.

The guitarist is joined by a second rhythm section for four tracks: drummer Vinnie Colaiuta – who has worked with Frank Zappa, Sting and Paul Simon, among others – and Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney.

Satriani named “Shockwave Supernova” after his alter ago, one that he steps into for live performances.

The guitarist is previewing the album with a sample of “On Peregrine Wings.”

He will launch The Shockwave Tour in Nantes, France on September 17.

Satriani will join Steve Vai and Animals As Leaders for “A Benefit For Cliff III”, a third benefit concert in support of music industry veteran and good friend Cliff Cultreri.

The event will take place on Friday, June 12th at 8 PM, at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.

Sammy Hagar and James Hetfield to host second Acoustic 4 A Cure benefit concert

Sammy Hagar and Metallica frontman James Hetfield will host the second annual "Acoustic-4-A-Cure" benefit concert at The Masonic in San Francisco on May 15.

The event – which benefits the Pediatric Cancer Program at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital – will see acoustic performances by the hosts and a lineup that includes Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains, Pat Monahan from Train, Linda Perry, Joe Satriani, Red Hot Chili Peppers/Chickenfoot drummer Chad Smith and more.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, April 10 at 10:00 AM at LiveNation.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

All proceeds from the concert will be donated to fund children's brain tumor research at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, one of the nation's leading children's medical facilities.

The inaugural 2014 event included sets from Satriani, Monahan, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Heart's Nancy Wilson.

Hagar’s latest supergroup, The Circle – featuring Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson – will issue their debut/live record, “At Your Service”, on May 19.

The band launch a US tour on April 11 in Las Vegas.

Hetfield and Metallica are currently in the studio working on the follow-up to 2008’s “Death Magnetic.”

The group return to live action May 9 when they headline the inaugural Rock In Rio USA festival in Las Vegas.

Joe Satriani and Steve Vai to host benefit concert

Guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai will host a third benefit concert in support of music industry veteran and good friend Cliff Cultreri.

"A Benefit For Cliff III" will take place on Friday, June 12 at 8 PM, at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.

This event will feature performances by Satriani and Vai, as well as special guests Animals As Leaders.

Satriani and Vai, along with other artists, have graciously donated various items to be auctioned at the event, including autographed guitars as well as a chance to join Satriani’s G4 Camp, taking place June 28–July 2 in Cambria, CA and a package to attend Vai’s camp, Vai Academy 2015 - All About The Guitar in Vail, CO, August 2-6, as well.

Cliff Cultreri is the A&R executive who ‘discovered’ Satriani and Vai, as well as many other popular recording artists, while working at Relativity Records and Koch Entertainment.

Cultreri is suffering from a host of Auto-Immune and Connective-Tissue disorders that are simultaneously attacking his immune system, a 1 in 100 million occurrence that causes severe pain and physical debilitations. During his years in the industry, Cultreri has served as A&R for a number of top names including Billy Sheehan & Talas, Peter Frampton, Megadeth, Anthrax, The Cure, and many others in all genres of music.

Joe Satriani has announced plans to release a new album and dates for a fall UK tour.

The Shockwave Tour will see the guitarist play 9 shows in the country starting November 1 in Manchester, marking his first UK concerts in two years.

He’ll be joined by bassist Bryan Beller, keyboardist/guitarist Mike Keneally and drummer Marco Minnemann.

The dates will follow the release of Satriani’s 15th studio album in July.

The rocker is currently in the studio recording the follow-up to 2013’s “Unstoppable Momentum” at Skywalker Ranch in California.

Presale tickets will be available from Satriani.com starting Wednesday, February 4.

A 48-hour ticket presale via Planet Rock radio also begins at 9 AM on Wednesday, February 4.

Sammy Hagar clarifies status of supergroup Chickenfoot

Sammy Hagar is clarifying recent comments he made regarding the status of supergroup Chickenfoot.

Last week, Hagar told Rolling Stone that fans shouldn’t expect a third album by the band, saying “I don't see any reason to make a new record. Going through the whole experience with a record label, and then going out and doing 150 interviews, a big tour and waking up at 4:00 a.m. to go on Howard Stern all to sell 35,000 CDs…It starts to feel like, ‘Hmmmm. Is this pay for play?’"

Hagar was asked to clarify his comments on the red carpet prior to hosting the 2014 Classic Rock Roll Of Honour awards show in Hollywood on Tuesday.

"I would [make another Chickenfoot album], but it's just too much work right now,” Hagar tells Vintage Rock. “I mean, I love Chickenfoot — it's my favorite band, but I just don't see us getting together and making a record right now. Everybody's got so much to do. Joe is in freakin' Australia right now."

Hagar recently released his first acoustic album, “Lite Roast”, and was asked if he will continue to record solo albums moving forward.

"Yeah, but I make kind of fun, easy things,” he explains. “Chickenfoot records are difficult, 'cause we've gotta get together, we write, and we work, and we write, and we work, and it's really, really tough.”

“It's not like… I just did an acoustic record of a bunch of old songs — Van Halen songs, early Sammy songs, and I put them in an acoustic [format] — and it was fun, it was easy,” he continues. “I did it in a week. I like doing stuff like that. That's where the music industry is to me now. It isn't about going and spending a million records on a record and selling 125,000 copies, it's more about doing something like you like to do. 'Oh, I've got a great song. I'm gonna give it to the fans.' Or, 'I'm gonna put it up on the web site and make a video.' It's just about, for me, experimenting and having fun."

Chickenfoot’s self-titled 2009 debut achieved gold status for US sales of 500,000, while the sophomore effort failed to hit that mark; it did, however, earn a 2012 Grammy Award nomination in the “Best Recording Package” category.

The band reunited to perform the encore at Hagar’s belated birthday bash concert in Las Vegas on October 18 – check out video from the event here.
