Stone Temple Pilots: Scott Weiland says firing is publicity stunt

Stone Temple Pilots dropped a public bombshell this week when they announced the “termination” of singer Scott Weiland.

The news caught fans and Weiland by surprise, who released a statement questioning how he could be fired from the band he started.

As Scott heads out to start his solo tour, TMZ caught up with him at the Los Angeles airport, where he said his "termination" is nothing more than a publicity stunt in order to hype an upcoming concert tour.

"STP is not broken up,” he said. “It's a whole thing to try to boost ticket sales."

He also added that the group cannot function under the STP banner without all four members being involved, based on their contractual situation.
