Jason Newsted joins Megadeth in Toronto - Aug 11, 2013 |
Megadeth wrapped up their 2013 Gigantour Sunday night in Toronto and delivered a promised Metallica jam in the process.
Dave Mustaine has been promoting a jam with former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted – now out on his own with Newsted and on the Gigantour bill – and the pair finally hooked up to perform the 1983 Metallica classic, “Phantom Lord”.
Co-written by Mustaine, the tune appears on Metallica’s debut album, “Kill ‘Em All”.
Mustaine was fired from Metallica in April of 1983 and went on to form Megadeth; Newsted replaced late bassist Cliff Burton in 1986 and was a member of Metallica until 2001.
Megadeth are on the road in support of “Super Collider”, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 album chart in June with opening week sales of 29,000 copies.
Early next month, Megadeth will team up with Iron Maiden for some US shows before joining Black Sabbath for a Latin American tour in October.
