KISS: Gene Simmons to sing anthem at NFL game in London

KISS bassist Gene Simmons will perform the US national anthem at the NFL International Series game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings at London’s Wembley Stadium on Sunday, September 29.

Simmons will sing “The Star Spangled Banner” prior to kickoff of the seventh NFL regular-season game to be played in the United Kingdom; he previously performed it at the Oakland Raiders’ home game against the San Diego Chargers in 2012.

“I’m excited to be touching down in London to sing our US National Anthem at the Vikings-Steelers game,” said Simmons. “I always love playing a role in these types of high-action, fast-paced games, not to mention returning to the UK and performing in front of some the best fans in the world!’’

“We are very excited to have Gene playing such an important role in our game,” said Alistair Kirkwood, managing director of NFLUK. “He is one of the most recognizable personalities in the world and has an incredible track record in the music business. We are proud to have him involved and I know the fans will get a real kick out of it.”

The Steelers-Vikings game will kick off at 6:00 p.m. UK time (1:00 p.m. ET) and will be aired live in the UK on Channel 4, Sky Sports and Absolute Radio 90s and in the US on CBS.

The NFL will stage its second International Series game of 2013 on Sunday, October 27, when the Jacksonville Jaguars host the San Francisco 49ers.

Simmons and KISS will resume their Monster world tour with a series of shows in Japan next month.
