Rock News Artist of The Year No. 3 – PEARL JAM

Pearl Jam began 2013 with news from frontman Eddie Vedder that the band’s work-in-progress new album was about half done.

In late January, the group announced a pair of summer “Evening With” shows, including a July 16 date in London, Ontario and a July 19 show at Chicago’s Wrigley Field (details here).

In February, Pearl Jam’s 1991 debut, “Ten”, reached the 10 million mark in US sales, making it the 22nd album to reach the threshold since the company began tracking data in 1991.

That same month, guitarist Mike McCready confirmed the band’s next album out will be released "this year, for sure."

In early July, Pearl Jam announced a fall North American tour (here), and three days later revealed the fall release of their tenth studio album, “Lightning Bolt”, and issued the project’s lead single, “Mind Your Manners.”

The group delivered the live debut of the new single in London (video here) and played more tracks during their Wrigley Field date (here).

"Lightning Bolt" was released October 3, and went on to debut atop the U.S. Billboard 200 album charts with opening week sales of 166,000 copies (details here).

The Seattle band kicked off their fall tour in Pittsburgh on October 11 (video here).

Late Night With Jimmy Fallon hosted Pearl Jam Week, with guests Chris Cornell, Robin Pecknold and Dierks Bentley performing tracks by the band, who showed up to play new music on the final two shows of the week-long tribute.

In November, the group began airing concerts from their current tour on its Pearl Jam Radio channel on SiriusXM.

The year ended with Eddie Vedder announcing a February solo tour of Australia, and the band confirming European dates for the summer.
