Foo Fighters auctioning studio time to assist Seattle musician

The Foo Fighters have stepped in to assist friend and Seattle musician Mike Squires (Loaded, Alien Crime Syndicate, Harvey Danger) and his mother, Charlotte, who is fighting cancer.

The band have offered up two days of recording at their California base, Studio 606, as part of an eBay auction by Squires to assist with his mother’s medical bills.

Squires posted a description of the studio in his eBay listing:

“Studio 606 is the Foo Fighters' private studio. 606 Studio Manager, Scott Parker, and the Foo Fighters have donated 2 days of studio time to help benefit my mother Charlotte's fight against cancer.

“The highest bidder in this auction will have unlimited access, for two days, to record or mix at the studio.

“The auction includes the use of the house engineer, the studio space, studio recording equipment, Pro Tools rig, and limited backline (no house guitars are available for use, Sorry!). That literally means that you can show up with your band's guitars and pedals and your favorite snare or kick pedal (but, seriously?) and create a record in a world-class recording environment.

“If you are well rehearsed that is enough time to record or mix a couple of songs to perfection. Maybe you want to track a full album and take it somewhere else to mix? BUT, tons of classic albums were recorded quickly by well prepared and inspired bands. Black Sabbath's first was recorded in one day and mixed the next. Nick Drake's Pink Moon was recorded in two days. So was Velvet Underground's White Light/White Heat. Are you up for that challenge? Bring it.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Booking the use of the studio will be contingent on the studio's existing schedule. Certain limitations will apply because of that. The winner of the auction will schedule time with studio manager Scott Parker. One Day equals ten hours of studio time. Transportation to and from the studio is not included in this auction. Room and board also is not included in this auction.

“The centerpiece of the studio is the classic Neve 8028 console that Dave Grohl created the Sound City documentary around. The film is great and I'd love to include a link here, but eBay will not permit me to include the link or embed the trailer.

“Join the ranks of artists who have recorded through this console such as Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, The Black Crowes, Weezer, QOTSA, and many, many more legends.

“This auction is going to benefit my mother's fight against cancer. You can follow me on Facebook and learn about what is going on and about some other cool auctions that are happening. My name is Mike Squires.”

The Foo Fighters eBay studio auction ends February 23 – the current bid is $11,000.

The group have just launched an Australian tour in support of “Sonic Highways” - a summer North American run starts July 4 at Washington’s RFK Stadium.
