VIDEO: Bruce Springsteen premieres 1980 performance of The River

Bruce Springsteen is premiering an unreleased 1980 live version of the title track to “The River” as a preview of his forthcoming 7-disc box set marking the 35th anniversary of the project.

The performance at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ is considered legendary in Springsteen circles as the New Jersey rocker and his band were on the road in support of their first double album.

Due December 4, “The Ties That Bind: The River Collection” presents the live show from Arizona alongside the 1980 album and its scrapped 1979 draft “The Ties That Bind”, plus 22 outtakes from the studio sessions and an hour-long documentary/interview with Springsteen.

The rocker is previewing the upcoming package with an unreleased studio outtake, “Meet Me In The City”, and a live version of “Ramrod.”

“The River” earned Springsteen his first No. 1 US album on the Billboard 200 on its way to sales of more than 5 million copies in the States alone.
