Rock News Artist of The Year No. 2 – LED ZEPPELIN

In mid-February, Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page was honored with the Rock 'N’ Roll Soul Award at the NME Awards in London.

A week later, the band continued their year-long reissues series with the release of an expanded edition of 1975’s double-album “Physical Graffiti.” The project debuted at No. 11 on the US charts and No. 6 in their native UK.

In May, a copyright infringement suit against Led Zeppelin over “Stairway To Heaven” was moved to a US federal court.

Brought by the estate of Spirit guitarist Randy California and members of the band, the suit claims the acoustic introduction to “Stairway” was lifted from their 1968 instrumental, “Taurus.”

July brought the release of expanded editions of the UK group’s final three studio albums: 1976’s “Presence”, 1979’s “In Through The Out Door”, and 1982’s “Coda.” All three reissues debuted in the US Top 15.

Page doesn’t foresee a Led Zeppelin reunion happening in the future, but did leave the door open just a bit in August by saying that all members would have to agree and do it for the right reasons.

In November, the guitarist performed the Zeppelin classic “Rock And Roll” with an all-star lineup of musicians at the Experience Music Project in Seattle while on hand to pick up an award.

By year’s end, Page revealed plans to record a solo album in 2016 and hit the road for live dates – echoing his own remarks from recent years – including 2010, 2014 and late last year.
