Rumor: Axl Rose to join AC/DC for tour

A new rumor out of Atlanta suggests Axl Rose will join AC/DC this year on tour following news that Brian Johnson has been advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss.

Alternative Nation reports Atlanta Radio 100.5 DJ Jason Bailey revealed that a ‘very very good source’ is telling him that Rose will join the Australian outfit for the remainder of their tour after meeting with them in the city last week.

“This is what I’m being told,” said Bailey. “Axl was meeting with the AC/DC group, because it’s all but a done deal that Axl will front AC/DC for the 10 remaining shows. All 10, including Atlanta.

“From what I was told, this was all kind of new inside information to me, Angus is a very black and white guy,”
he continued. “He’s like, Brian, for health reasons, can’t continue fronting the band. He was supposed to retire after the last tour, so they wanted to continue going out on the road and continue making music, ‘so if you can’t do it, we appreciate your services, but the show must go on.’

“They’re in town, they were auditioning people for the job, and then they flew Axl in, again, this is from my source.”

Rose was spotted in Atlanta last Friday by a fan who ran into the singer in front of the Loews Atlanta Hotel, and shared a photo of the chance meeting on Instagram.

The rocker reportedly told the fan that a reunited Guns N’ Roses were going to do a full tour following their six shows next month.

Founding AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young’s son (and Angus’s nephew) Ross Malcolm Young shared the Alternative Nation story, and when someone commented that he was ‘opening a can of worms’ by linking to the news, Ross responded, “It’s true.” His comments and link have since been deleted from Facebook.

Interestingly, Bailey only referenced the postponed US dates that will be rescheduled to later in the year and not the upcoming 12-date European tour, which begins May 7 in Lisbon, Portugal.

In response to the speculation, an AC/DC representative told NME, “Nothing official to announce. Will update you if that changes.”
