Neil Young releases animated Powderfinger video

Neil Young is streaming an animated video for “Powderfinger”, a track from his recently-issued and previously unreleased 1976 album, “Hitchhiker.

The tune – which first appeared on 1979’s “Rust Never Sleeps” – was originally captured as one of 10-tracks recorded live in one session at Indigo Studios in Malibu, CA on August 11, 1976.

The all-acoustic set delivers stripped-down versions of fan favourites like “Human Highway” and “Pocahontas”, and features two previously unreleased tunes: “Hawaii” and “Give Me Strength.”

The original session was produced by Young's longtime studio collaborator David Brings, with new post production by John Hanlon, who has worked with the rocker since 1990 and produced his most recent works, including his latest effort, 2016’s “Peace Trail.”

Young recently revealed plans to launch an online archive tracing his entire musical history.

“Every single, recorded track or album I have produced is represented,” he writes as an introduction to neilyoungarchives.com. “It is always current. You can browse the music I made between today’s date and 1963, when I made my first recording in Canada and it was released as a 45 RPM single.”

Billed as “coming soon”, Young and his team have been diligently compiling detailed information about his recordings for the project.
