Rock News Artist of The Year No. 8 – DEF LEPPARD

Def Leppard headed into 2019 as one of the artists set to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in the spring.

The March 29 event in New York saw Queen guitarist and longtime friend Brian May deliver the induction speech for the lineup of singer Joe Elliott, guitarists Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell, bassist Rick Savage and drummer Rick Allen, who were recognized alongside founding member Pete Willis and late guitarist Steve Clark.

Following the acceptance speech, Def Leppard took center stage to perform the title track to “Hysteria”, “Rock Of Ages” and “Photograph” from “Pyromania”, and their 1987 smash “Pour Some Sugar On Me.”

The band kicked off their 2019 live schedule at the Sweden Rock Festival on June 6, just two weeks before the release of the second of four career-spanning box sets; “Volume Two” delivered all the recordings from the band in the 1990’s with their original packaging.

A Canadian tour in July was followed by the August 14 launch of “Def Leppard Hits Vegas: The Sin City Residency” at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

In September, Elliott confirmed that the group filmed some of the residency shows for a future DVD release.

After wrapping up the residency, Def Leppard appeared at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas on September 21 and closed out their 2019 live schedule with a set at Tennessee’s Exit 111 Festival in October and a Sacramento, CA date in November.

Major headlines surfaced in December when Motley Crue announced dates for a 2020 US stadium tour with Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.

The 22-date series – which will open in Miami, FL on July 7 – will mark the return to live action for Motley Crue just five years after signing an agreement that they would no longer perform together following the end of their official farewell tour in 2015.
