Rock News Artist of The Year No. 9 – RUSH

Rush closed out 2018 with news from bassist Geddy Lee that Neil Peart had retired from drumming, likely bringing to a close any chance the Canadian trio might regroup for the first time since wrapping up a 40th anniversary tour in 2015.

Guitarist Alex Lifeson joined the bassist at a Rush Fan Day event at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, OH on January 19, as Lee continued to promote his latest project, “Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book Of Bass.

Lee hit the road in late spring for a book-signing tour across Canada before heading to Europe and the US for more in-store events with fans.

Rush released the debut vinyl edition of “Time Machine 2011: Live In Cleveland”, in June; the 4LP package presents the band’s April 15, 2011 set at the city’s Quicken Loans Arena that saw a mix of tracks from throughout their career alongside a full album performance of the album classic, “Moving Pictures.”

The group took over movie theaters worldwide in August for a screening of “Cinema Strangiato”, an event that presented material from the band’s 2015 R40 40th anniversary tour alongside a series of new interviews and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Lee’s book.

An official graphic novel chronicling the making of Rush’s 1977 album, “A Farewell To Kings”, arrived in September, giving readers an inside look at the work behind the trio’s fifth record, which delivered classic tracks like “Closer To The Heart”, “Cinderella Man” and “Xanadu” while peaking at No. 33 on the US Billboard 200.

In October, Rush released a 5LP edition of their 2013 live package, “Clockwork Angels Tour”, which delivers material from the band’s 2012 concerts in Phoenix, Dallas and San Antonio while on the road in support of their 2012 album, “Clockwork Angels.”

Lee returned to the road for more book events in November and December.
