hennemusic LIVE: Queen stream 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert



hennemusic is pleased to deliver a live stream of The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, a special event broadcast in support of the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization.

The 2020 YouTube premiere screening presents The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert For AIDS Awareness, which took place on Easter Monday, April 20, 1992 at London’s Wembley Stadium in front of a sold-out crowd of 72,000 and a global radio and television broadcast audience of over one billion.

The concert was a tribute to Queen's lead vocalist, who died of AIDS on November 24, 1991. Queen’s remaining members Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon were joined on stage by many of the biggest acts in the world including David Bowie, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Elton John, Guns N’ Roses, Robert Plant, Metallica, Liza Minelli, Def Leppard, Seal, Roger Daltrey and many more; the concert was to be the last large scale live event Deacon performed with Queen.

The profits from the concert were used to launch The Mercury Phoenix Trust, where a core part of Queen and Freddie’s legacy and has gone on to provide in excess of £17m to over 1000 projects in 57 countries in the ongoing fight against AIDS worldwide.

All funds from the streaming event go to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization (powered by UN Foundation and Swiss Philanthropy Foundation), to help ensure patients get the care they need, frontline workers get essential supplies and information, and accelerate efforts to develop vaccines, tests, and treatments. For all donations made between March 15 to June 30, Google.org and YouTube will match up to $5M.

The concert will be available to stream for 48 hours only, starting with the May 15 YouTube premiere.
