David Lee Roth shares unreleased song as tribute to Eddie Van Halen

David Lee Roth is sharing a tribute to his late bandmate, Eddie Van Halen.

The singer is streaming “Somewhere Over The Rainbow Bar And Grill”, a song from an unreleased album he recorded with Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 in 2014.

The tune – whose title namechecks the famous Sunset Strip bar and restaurant of the same name and its upstairs private club “Over The Rainbow” – specifically references the period just prior to Van Halen securing a record deal with Warner Brothers in 1977, which would see the release of their self-titled debut the following year.

"Hey Ed. I'm gonna miss ya' See you on the other side", writes Roth in the companion graphic for the song.

Roth first worked with John 5 on his 1998 release, “DLR Band”, before the rocker went on to join Marilyn Manson’s band; he co-wrote one of three original tracks on Roth’s 2003 covers project, “Diamond Dave”, before beginning his current tenure with Zombie in 2005.

Eddie passed away in a Santa Monica, CA hospital on October 6 at the age of 65 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
