Van Halen to feature 1974 demo Glitter in new limited-edition book

Van Halen will feature an exclusive 7" vinyl record of “Glitter” – a previously-unreleased demo recorded in 1974 – as part of Alex Van Halen's official signed limited edition of the new book “Van Halen.”

Created exclusively for the “Van Halen” signed limited edition, the 7" picture disc features artwork based on the band's iconic 1984 tour design.

Featuring Alex Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen alongside David Lee Roth and original bassist Mark Stone, “Glitter” captures Van Halen at the very beginning of their story. Released here for the first time, it will mark the earliest Van Halen recording ever to be officially released. The record will also feature a specially selected spoken-word recording from Alex Van Halen, drawn from the extensive new interviews conducted with Genesis for the book.

Written, curated and personally signed by Alex Van Halen, “Van Halen” is the official chronicle of the band, published by Genesis in a strictly limited edition of 1,500 signed and numbered copies worldwide.

Drawing on Alex Van Halen's private archives, opened for the first time for this project, the book traces the brothers' extraordinary journey from their childhood and arrival in California from Holland, through backyard parties in Pasadena and the band's formative years on the Sunset Strip, to their landmark 1978 debut album and the release and world tour of the chart-topping 1984.

Across 312 pages, “Van Halen” brings together a dynamic collection of iconic photography, rare and previously unseen images, correspondence, tour memorabilia, album artwork, press material, musical equipment and other archival material, offering a personally guided tour through the band's legendary rise. Photography spans the band's earliest years through their first tours of Japan in 1978 and landmark performances including the US Festival in 1983 and 1984's Monsters of Rock.

At the heart of the book is an original manuscript from Alex Van Halen, drawn from a series of extensive new interviews conducted especially for the project, his most sustained and detailed reflection on the band's formative years. Alex's account is joined by archival texts from Eddie Van Halen and contributions from fellow musicians, friends and artists inspired by the band.

The “Van Halen” signed limited edition comprises just 1,500 numbered copies worldwide, with every copy personally signed by Alex Van Halen. With the Deluxe copies now fully subscribed, copies 351 to 1,500 are presented as Collector boxed sets.

Each Collector copy is quarter-bound in black vegan leather with silver page edging and features a silver-debossed Van Halen logo drawn from the band's 1978 World Tour. The book is housed in a black clamshell box featuring the Van Halen emblem surrounded by Alex Van Halen's iconic burning-ring design.

Alongside the signed book, each Collector boxed set contains a specially curated collection of replicas and keepsakes drawn from the Van Halen archive: a 1979 Van Halen Productions keychain, three Eddie Van Halen guitar picks faithfully reproduced from his stage-used designs, six 6" × 4" art postcards and the exclusive 7" picture disc, now revealed to feature the previously unreleased 1974 recording, "Glitter".

Available only with Alex Van Halen's signed limited edition, the record offers an extraordinary audio counterpart to the photographs, memories and archival material within the book: a chance to not only read the story of Van Halen's beginnings, but to hear the band at the moment that story was taking shape.

Pre-order Alex Van Halen's signed limited edition of VAN HALEN now at VanHalenAnthology.com.

With more than 80 million albums sold worldwide, Van Halen were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2007; five years after the band performed their final concert at the Hollywood Bowl in October of 2015, Eddie passed away in 2020 at the age of 65 from a stroke and other issues following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Sammy Hagar revises Best Of All Worlds UK dates

Sammy Hagar has announced a revised itinerary for his forthcoming UK tour, bringing his Best of All Worlds Tour to a series of more intimate, tech-forward performing arts venues.

Inspired by the breakthrough success of his recent Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live, where advanced sound and immersive technology redefined the live experience, the July 2026 dates have been reconfigured to prioritise similar venues across the UK. The updated routing also allows for a special multi-night run in London, where Hagar and the band will be among the first artists to headline the soon-to-open British Airways ARC.

The 2026 series – which marks Hagar’s his first UK tour since 1996 – celebrates his 50+ year catalogue of hits, including the deepest dive yet into his tenure with Van Halen.

“After waiting 30 years to come back, we really wanted to get this right,” says Hagar. “Several factors pushed us toward revising this tour but after wrapping our Las Vegas residency last month at Dolby Live where the sound, the technology, and the more intimate size really lets us connect with the audiences, it was clear that we wanted to deliver an experience like that for our fans in England. When I heard our promoter was opening a similar tech-forward venue in London that really sealed the deal for me. Three nights, a fresh set every night, and I get to stay in London, one of my favorite cities in the world, for a week. That’s the Best of All Worlds!”

The band thanks fans for their continued support and looks forward to delivering this newly enhanced live experience across the UK.

Fans who purchased tickets for the original UK dates will be contacted directly and offered priority presale access for the new shows, along with a 10% merchandise offer on show nights.

Tickets are now on sale.

Rock News Artist of The Year No. 9 – DAVID LEE ROTH

David Lee Roth began 2025 with news that he would be releasing a new box set, “The Warner Recordings 1985-1994”, in February via Rhino Records.

The package includes the first five solo releases by the rocker following his departure from Van Halen and the release of the EP “Crazy From The Heat.” The set was an immediate success thanks to the lead single and cover of the Beach Boys’ classic, “California Girls” – which scored Roth a US Top 3 hit – as well as a series of videos from the set earning high rotation in the MTV years.

Roth’s success continued as 1986’s “Eat ‘Em And Smile” hit the US Top 10 with a band lineup featuring guitarist Steve Vai, bassist Billy Sheehan and drummer Greg Bissonette.

1988 saw the platinum “Skyscraper” return Roth to the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, elevated by “Just Like Paradise”, after which he kicked off the ‘90s with the gold-selling “A Little Ain’t Enough” in 1991 and, later, “Your Filthy Little Mouth” in 1994.

In May, Roth announced dates for a US tour; at the time, the rocker detailed the series after playing his first full solo concert in more than five years at the M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, MD.

The mid-summer trek would launch July 22 in Paso Robles, CA, with shows wrapping up in Napa, CA on September 14.

Roth – who previously announced in late 2021 that he would retire from music in early 2022 – hinted at a change in his active status several months later after delivering a private performance in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in May of that year.
