Rock News Artist of The Year No. 7 – PINK FLOYD

After sweeping the 2020 hennemusic Rock News Awards last December, Pink Floyd continued sharing content regularly, opening 2021 with video of a 1972 performance of their 1968 classic, “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun.”

David Gilmour shared an acoustic performance of the Christian hymn “Morning Has Broken” as part of a livestream from his Von Trapped Family series.

In February, Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets rescheduled concert dates for their postponed UK tour for the third time, with shows now set for April/May 2022; later that month, Pink Floyd streamed an alternate video version for their debut 1967 single, “Arnold Layne.”

In March, the group delivered the first preview of their “Live At Knebworth 1990” package, which would be released at the end of April, while Mason postponed his band’s upcoming European tour for the second time amid the ongoing pandemic.

Footage of Gilmour performing at an early 2020 all-star concert tribute to Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green surfaced in April, just weeks before a home release of the show was made available, while he could also be heard joining Green on a blues classic that would be included in the October 2021 release of “The Albatross Man”, an illustrated book of Green’s life and career.

April also saw former Floyd member Roger Waters reschedule dates for his “This Is Not A Drill” North American tour.

In May, the legendary UK band announced that Los Angeles would play host to “The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains”, later this year; the project features over 350 artifacts while presenting an audio-visual journey through more than five decades of the group’s history.

Pink Floyd shared video of an early “Dark Side Of The Moon” 1972 tour performance in June, and reissued a 2019 remix of their 1987 album, “A Momentary Lapse Of Reason”, in October.

Mason recently announced dates for an early 2022 tour of North America that will see his band launch the six-week series in Toronto, ON in January.
