David Lee Roth streams cover of Marvin Gaye classic

David Lee Roth is streaming his cover of the 1965 Marvin Gaye classic, “Ain’t That Peculiar.”

Written by Smokey Robinson and three members of The Miracles, the song delivered Gaye his second No.1 on the US R&B charts, while the tune also crossed over as a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Van Halen rocker recorded the track with producer Tom Syrowski at Henson Studios in Los Angeles, although no further details were provided at this time about its origins.

That said, in the last year Roth has occasionally been sharing songs from a May 2022 session at the studio that saw him record 14 tracks in 2 hours with his most recent touring lineup of guitarist Al Estrada, bassist Ryan Wheele and drummer Francis Valentino.

The series has traditionally featured re-recorded versions of Van Halen material, including the most recent release of his take on the 1981 classic “Unchained.”
