Foreigner announce orchestral tour

Foreigner will launch an orchestral tour next year.

“Foreigner: The Hits Orchestral” will open in early March with a five-show residency at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, NV before playing multiple dates across California.

The orchestral concerts are a celebration of the band's 50th anniversary and will provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans to experience their most popular hits with a 20-piece orchestra playing spectacular arrangements written by Juilliard cello virtuoso Dave Eggar and conductor Chuck Palmer.

Eggar has performed, recorded and arranged for artists that include Coldplay, Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, Beyoncé and many more.

Foreigner's love for orchestral performance of their hit songs began in Switzerland in 2017 when they appeared in Lucerne with the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, resulting in a TV special which can be seen on PBS TV. Subsequently, they toured the show internationally, culminating with a sold-out appearance at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2026 tour.

Foreigner 4 album expanded for new Deluxe Edition

Foreigner will release extensive deluxe editions of its 1981 smash multi-Platinum album, “4”, on September 12.

Recorded at the famed Electric Lady Studios in New York City alongside producer Mutt Lange (Def Leppard, AC/DC), “4” spent more weeks at No. 1 on the US Billboard charts than any artist in the history of Atlantic Records, including AC/DC, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, and went on to sell more than ten million albums worldwide.

The set – which spawned three Billboard Hot 100 singles: "Waiting For A Girl Like You", "Urgent", and "Juke Box Hero" – was released during a time of transition as the band went from six members to four.

"Recording our fourth album took the better part of two years,” says Mick Jones. “It was something that just had to be right and I truly believe that Mutt Lange, Lou, Rick, Dennis, and I accomplished something very special. This package, and particularly the stunning Atmos mixes, present a spectacular culmination of one of the most exciting periods of my life."

“Foreigner 4 Deluxe” will encompass newly-remastered Stereo or ATMOS versions, and a five-disc CD/Blu-ray package that includes a booklet containing over 60 exclusive photos, five previously unreleased songs, 14 early and alternate versions of various songs, 15 instrumentals, and 15 live performances from across the globe, spanning the band's 1981 and 1982 "4" world tour. The digital deluxe release will also contain alternate versions, instrumentals, and live performances from the era.

Foreigner is sharing the first preview to the 2025 release with the previously-unreleased track, "Fool If You Love Him"; the song was initially left unfinished and shelved during the original album’s recording. Decades later, Lou Gramm returned to the mic, writing a new verse and recording fresh vocals to bring the song back to life. Now, for the first time ever, fans can hear the finished version of a track that almost never was.

To coincide with the deluxe package release, Foreigner – Luis Maldonado (lead vocals/guitar), Jeff Pilson (bass), Michael Bluestein(keyboards), Bruce Watson (guitars), Chris Frazier (drums) will celebrate half a century of music with a new round of headlining tour dates which will include original lead singer Lou Gramm guesting on some of the songs he helped create almost forty-five years ago.

The upcoming Foreigner 4 Deluxe Tour signals yet another important transition for the band as these new dates will be the first major US shows featuring Luis Maldonado on lead vocals. On the recent season finale of The Voice, it was announced that this year's summer tour would be the last for Kelly Hansen after 20 years fronting the group.

Foreigner was inducted into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame last fall.

Foreigner singer Kelly Hansen leaving band after 20 years

In a surprise moment that brought both judges and fans to their feet, Kelly Hansen, longtime lead vocalist of legendary rock band Foreigner, announced he's stepping down live during a special appearance on NBC's The Voice this week.

After two decades fronting the band with one of rock's most iconic catalogs, Hansen revealed he will be leaving Foreigner at the end of the Summer 2025 tour.

In a moving segment that aired nationally, Hansen introduced Luis Maldonado as his official successor - a moment that symbolized both an end and a bold new beginning for the powerhouse group.

"Being the voice of Foreigner has been one of the greatest honors of my life," said Hansen. "But it's time to pass the mic. Luis has the voice, the energy, and the soul to carry these songs into the future. I couldn't be prouder to hand this off to him."

Foreigner leader and founder, Mick Jones had this to say: "In 1976, my goal was to assemble the finest group of musicians I could find. Results have shown that it worked! About thirty years later, Jason Bonham encouraged me to do it all over again and create a brand-new Foreigner, and the magic was still there. I was especially fortunate in the choice of lead singer. Kelly Hansen is one of the best front men in our business and over the last twenty years he has breathed new life into our songs. His boundless energy and flawless talent has helped us climb the mountain and set up the opportunity for Foreigner vocalist and guitarist, Luis Maldonado, to bring us home.

“I wish Kelly great happiness in his next endeavors after our summer tour, and I look forward to welcoming Luis to his new position. Luis was my choice as a guitarist and he has already shown us what he can do on lead vocals by fronting the band in South America to incredible reviews. He will soon lead the charge that will carry us forward to new heights."

Before Luis joined Foreigner, he was best known as the guitarist for Train and for his work with Lisa Marie Presley. He now steps into the spotlight as Foreigner's new lead singer. Maldonado brings a rich blend of vocal power, stage charisma, and musical versatility that makes him a natural fit to lead the next chapter of the band's journey.

"This music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember," said Maldonado. "I'm ready to honor Foreigner's legacy and bring my heart to every performance."

Hansen joined Foreigner in 2005 and played a crucial role in revitalizing the band's live presence. His powerful vocals and magnetic stage presence helped introduce Foreigner's timeless hits to a new generation of fans across the globe.

Foreigner's tour continues through 2025 and will feature both Hansen and Maldonado on stage in a symbolic handoff. The transition coincides with major milestones for the band, including next year's 50th anniversary of its formation in New York in 1976.

Foreigner inducted into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Foreigner was among the artists inducted into the 2024 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame during an October 19 ceremony in Cleveland, OH.

Sammy Hagar had the honor of inducting the group while speaking highly of their legacy and giving a shout out to band founder Mick Jones, who, Rolling Stone notes, missed the event due to his battle with Parkinson's.

"I'm really sad [Mick Jones] is not here tonight,” shared Hagar. “Mick, we love and miss you and congratulations."

Original singer Lou Gramm, bassist Rick Wills, and keyboardist Al Greenwood were joined by Jones’ daughter, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, to accept the award, while drummer Dennis Elliott sat out the ceremony; bassist Ed Gagliardi died in 2014 and guitarist/keyboardist Ian McDonald passed away in 2022.

The live performance/tribute saw the band’s current touring lineup joined by Slash and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and singer Demi Lovato for “Feels Like The First Time,” while Hagar joined soon after for “Hot Blooded” – with some help from current singer Kelly Hansen, and Kelly Clarkson took on “I Want to Know What Love Is” with some help from Gramm.

Joining Foreigner as 2024 Rock Hall inductees in the performer category are Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton, Dave Matthews Band, Cher, Mary J. Blige, Kool & The Gang, and A Tribe Called Quest.

Foreigner founder Mick Jones reveals Parkinson’s diagnosis

Foreigner founder and guitarist Mick Jones has revealed that he is battling Parkinson's disease.

The 79-year-old musician, who has not performed with the band since 2022, shared his story on social media.

"Fans will have become very aware that for some time now, I have not been performing onstage with the band,” began Jones. “Several years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. I want everyone to know that I am doing alright. However, I've always liked to be at my best when performing onstage, and sadly, at present, I find that a bit difficult.

“I am still very much involved in the background with Foreigner and remain a presence,”
he continued. “Parkinson's is a daily struggle; several of my friends are also dealing with the disease. The important thing is to persevere with the loving support of my family, and remind myself of the wonderful career I've had in music.

"I thank all the fans who have supported Foreigner throughout the years and continue to attend our concerts – I want you to know I appreciate your support; it always means so very much to me, but especially so at this point in my life."

Jones formed Foreigner in New York in 1976 via a series of jams that saw him connect with keyboardist Al Greenwood, multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald, drummer Dennis Elliott, bassist Ed Gagliardi and – after an extensive search for a singer – Lou Gramm was brought in to front the band.

1977 saw the release of Foreigner’s self-titled debut, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 on its way to US sales of more than 5 million copies thanks to the Top 10 hits “Feels Like The First Time” and “Cold As Ice.”

A series of multi-platinum albums followed, including 1978’s “Double Vision”, 1979’s “Head Games” and 1981’s “4”, helping the group flourish with 16 Top 30 hits while going on to sell more than 75 million albums worldwide.

Gramm exited Foreigner for a solo career in 1990, but returned between 1992 and 2003 before leaving again; singer Kelly Hansen joined the lineup in 2005.

Foreigner were recently named among the nominees under consideration for the 2024 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Foreigner has announced the first series of North American dates for their farewell tour.

Set to open on July 6, 2023, at Atlanta’s Ameris Bank Amphitheatre, the first leg will see the band joined by Canadian rockers Loverboy.

“Many years ago, I wrote a song called ‘Feels Like The First Time’ and today we are launching one last worldwide tour,” says founder and guitarist Mick Jones. “We will be presenting a show that I know will have the same enthusiasm as our very first appearances. The tour will start this summer in America and we hope to get to every place that we have played over the last several years. While I’m sure our fans will have mixed feelings about the end of the road for the band, I know our shows are going to delight audiences everywhere.”

Foreigner will continue its long-term initiative with the Grammy Museum Foundation to invite choirs to open the show with a live a cappella ‘Pitch Perfect’ performance of Classic Rock songs.

Foreigner will join radio partners across the country to create a contest for local choirs to win donations to their music programs. One winning choir will be selected at each show, and that choir will receive a grand prize of new musical equipment. For more details, visit Foreignerchoirs.com.

Gramm exited Foreigner for a solo career in 1990, but returned between 1992 and 2003 before leaving again; singer Kelly Hansen joined the lineup in 2005.

Foreigner has announced dates for a spring 2023 Leas Vegas residency.

The series at The Venetian Theatre inside The Venetian Resort Las Vegas will see the band perform “the best of Foreigner 4 & More” on March 24, 25, 29 and 31 and April 1, 5, 7 and 8, 2023.

A Foreigner fan club presale is now underway, with Live Nation and Ticketmaster presales available starting Wednesday, October 12 at 10 a.m. PT and running until Thursday, October 13 at 10 p.m. PT.

General public tickets will go on sale Friday, October 14 at 10 a.m. PT.

Foreigner is currently playing dates on their Greatest Hits US tour, with shows wrapping up late next month.

Foreigner expand 2021 US tour

Foreigner have expanded the schedule for their 2021 US tour.

Set to begin in Ottumwa, IA on June 24, “The Greatest Hits of Foreigner Tour” sees the addition of more than three dozen new stops, including a short run of shows in October that will see the group joined by a full orchestra.

"We are full-on back on the road,” singer Kelly Hansen tells Billboard. “There's been so many conversations over the last year with promoters and with our agents and with management, trying to figure out what's the safe thing to do, when can we do this, how can we do that? We're finally able to say we're getting out there, we're getting on the road. That's a great thing."

On-sale ticket dates for shows on the 71-date tour vary by market, with some already available, while others are in pre-sales mode; for details, visit foreigneronline.com.

The trek will see new member, multi-instrumentalist Luis Maldonado, in the lineup following the amicable departure of Thom Gimbel earlier this year.

"We all love Thom Gimbel and respect him, and there's not an iota of any kind of bad feelings,” says Hansen. “Thom is at a point he felt like he needed to not be on the road, and I get it. Luis is an amazing musician and a really great singer. It's a really powerful, strong sound with Luis in the band now."

Foreigner working on new music

Foreigner bassist Jeff Pilson has revealed that the classic rock band are working on new music.

While the group’s most recent studio album is 2009’s “Can’t Slow Down”, the rocker explains the group’s approach to their latest round of recordings.

"I don't really see a whole album of new material coming out anytime soon," Pilson tells Kylie Olsson's YouTube show "Life In Six Strings". "But we are working on some music. So I think that what's gonna happen is whatever other things we release in the next couple of years, there will be some new songs added to it. So that's what I see kind of happening. 'Cause we're working on a few that are not that far away. So I would say expect a package deal to have a couple of new songs on it."

The bassist confirms that the writing sessions include a mix of songs written by band founder and guitarist Mick Jones through the years.

"A couple of them were actually written by Mick, like, 20-some years ago; there's stuff that he had,” adds Pilson. “So what we're doing is we're just kind of working it out and arranging it with Mick.

“Like one of them right now, we've kind of worked on a beginning bed of it, and then Kelly [Hansen]’s gonna sing it. Another one, we've tried a few different treatments; we haven't really settled on that. There's another couple that are kind of in the same state — they're written; we just haven't decided exactly where to go. One of them needs a bridge, and things like that."

Foreigner have reportedly sold more than 80 million records worldwide since the 1977 release of their self-titled debut album; the band are currently scheduled to headline the Frontyard Festival in Orlando, FL in May.
