Yungblud wins Grammy Award for Black Sabbath cover
Originally featured on the band’s fourth album, "Vol. 4", the July 5 concert – billed as “Back To The Beginning” – saw the UK rocker joined on the song by Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, Anthrax bassist Frank Bello, keyboardist Adam Wakeman, and Sleep Token drummer II.
Yungblud received the honor at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, and was joined on stage by the five other musicians and Sharon Osbourne.
"To grow up loving an idol that helps you figure out your identity, not only as a musician but also as a man, is something that I'm truly grateful for,” said Yungblud at the start of his acceptance speech. “But then to get to know them and form a relationship with them, honor them at their final show and receive this because of it, is something that I and I think we're all finding so strange to comprehend. We love you Ozzy!"
Osbourne passed away on July 22 last summer at the age of 76, just weeks after he and Black Sabbath both delivered their final performances in a farewell event
All proceeds from the “Changes” single will be donated to the same charities from the Back to the Beginning benefit show: Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Acorn Children’s Hospice.
The 68th Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 1 and were hosted by comedian Trevor Noah.

Post Malone, Guns N' Roses' Slash and Duff McKagan, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Andrew Watt honored the iconic singer by performing the Black Sabbath classic, "War Pigs", during the "In Memoriam" segment of the evening.
The 68th Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 1 and were hosted by comedian Trevor Noah.

Ozzy Osbourne sweeps the 2025 hennemusic Rock News Awards
Ozzy Osbourne has swept the 2025 hennemusic Rock News Awards, the daily music news site announced Wednesday.
The 16th annual event saw the iconic rocker named as both Rock News Artist Of The Year and Rock News Story Of The Year as he continued to make headlines throughout 2025.
Osbourne was the most read-about artist in each category, whose winners are chosen by music fans: total page views determine the Rock News Story Of The Year, while the Rock News Artist Of The Year is based on the combined page views of the top 50 hennemusic rock news stories of the past twelve months.
The Top 10 in both categories were counted down over the past two weeks, in the tradition of the weekly hennemusic Hot 10.
“Ozzy’s will and determination to return to the concert stage – despite dealing with an extensive number of health issues in recent years – was beyond impressive,” says Publisher Bruce Henne, “while simultaneously providing closure for both the artist and the fans.”

Rock News Artist of The Year No. 1 – OZZY OSBOURNE
As 2024 came to a close, Ozzy Osbourne was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as a solo artist, years after being similarly honored as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006.
Despite dealing with an extensive number of health issues in recent years, Ozzy maintained a focus on returning to the live stage to perform for his fans one more time.
In February, Black Sabbath announced plans to reunite for the first time in 20 years this summer when they would regroup with Ozzy Osbourne as part of his final live performance.
Billed as “Back To The Beginning”, the July 5 event will see Osbourne play his own short set before being joined by Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward when they take the stage at Villa Park in the band’s hometown of Birmingham, UK.
“It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning…time for me to give back to the place where I was born,” says Ozzy. “How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
Just days before the July 5 event, the founding members of Black Sabbath were awarded the Freedom of the City of Birmingham at a ceremony in the Council House; each was presented with their Freedom of the City scrolls and medals by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal.
“Back To The Beginning” saw performances by an extensive guest lineup that included Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer and more alongside mixed “supergroups” of musicians who were on hand to play their respects to what is widely considered the founders of heavy metal.
Prior to joining Black Sabbath for the final time, Osbourne played a 5-song set of his own while highlighting some of the most famous songs in his solo catalog.
In just over two weeks later, the world awoke on July 22 to news that Ozzy had passed away from a heart attack at the age of 76.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” shared his family in a statement. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis”

Ozzy Osbourne delivered his final live performance during an emotional farewell concert event in his hometown of Birmingham, UK on July 5.
Prior to joining Black Sabbath for the final time, Osbourne played a 5-song set of his own while highlighting some of the most famous songs in his solo catalog.
The rocker arrived to huge applause via a lift through the floor at center stage before playing a set that featured four tracks from his 1980 solo debut, “Blizzard Of Ozz” – “I Don’t Know”, “Mr. Crowley”, “Suicide Solution”, and the iconic “Crazy Train” – as well as his 1991 hit, “Mama, I’m Coming Home.”

Rock News Story Of The Year No. 5: BLACK SABBATH
In July came news that a collection of pre-Black Sabbath recordings when the UK band was named Earth would be released.
“Earth: The Legendary Lost Tapes” was recorded during the foursome’s early days in 1969 by music promoter Jim Simpson, who went on to become Black Sabbath’s first manager.
Simpson, now in his mid-80s and still ubiquitous on the Midlands’ music scene, has found the tracks he recorded when the group were in their early days.
“Before Black Sabbath, the band were known as Earth – a blues-driven powerhouse already making a name for themselves,” says Simpson. “This new release presents rare early recordings from that era, remastered from long-lost tapes. These recordings clearly demonstrate what fine music they produced right from the very beginning. We recorded these tracks at Zella Studio in Birmingham in 1969, but held back from releasing them as their style was evolving so quickly.
“Now, some 57 years later, the recordings assume a greater importance, illustrating how these four young men from Birmingham, barely out of their teens, were excellent musicians and a fine band, fully deserving of all the success that was to come their way.”

Judas Priest release War Pigs featuring Ozzy Osbourne
Initially conceived as a tribute video for Ozzy and Black Sabbath after Judas Priest were unable to join them at the Aston Villa show due to prior commitments with The Scorpions' 60th Anniversary show in Hannover the project quickly grew in purpose and power.
When Judas Priest suggested turning the tribute into a full-blown charity single, the idea struck a chord with Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne. With Glenn Tipton contributing guitars despite his ongoing battle with Parkinson's and Rob Halford and Ozzy trading alternate vocal lines, the result is a raw, soaring, and poignant version of the iconic "War Pigs."
All profits of Sony Music Entertainment UK Ltd and Epic Records in the UK from audio streams, downloads, and physical sales of the recording will be donated to The Glenn Tipton Parkinson’s Foundation and Cure Parkinson’s.
Ozzy passed away on July 22 at the age of 76 – just weeks after he and Black Sabbath delivered their final performances in a farewell event in their hometown of Birmingham, UK on July 5.

Black Sabbath formed in Aston in 1968, and went on to create eight albums and worldwide sales of over 75 million albums; the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 – Ozzy was honored in 2024 – and the group was awarded a Lifetime Ivor Novello Songwriting Award in 2015 and were presented with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
When announcing the event earlier this year, Ozzy said: “It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning….time for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”
The rocker launched his solo career with “Blizzard of Ozz” after being fired by Black Sabbath in the spring of 1979; introduced with the lead single, “Crazy Train”, the project featured ex-Quiet Riot guitarist Randy Rhoads, lyricist and former Rainbow bassist Bob Daisley, former Uriah Heep drummer Lee Kerslake, and session player and Rainbow keyboardist Don Airey.

Steven Tyler and Ronnie Wood make surprise appearance at Black Sabbath farewell
Tyler and Wood were joined by Nuno Bettencourt, Tom Morello, Andrew Watt, Rudy Sarzo and Travis Barker for the Tiny Bradshaw classic, “Train Kept A-Rollin'”, which Aerosmith covered on their 1974 album, “Get Your Wings.”
Wood and Barker left the stage as Chad Smith stepped in for a jam on “Walk This Way” before closing with a snippet of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.”
Tyler’s appearance was a surprise as Aerosmith announced its retirement from touring due to a vocal injury the singer suffered at the start of a farewell tour in 2023.

The singer delivered the title track to Osbourne’s “Bark At The Moon” during the event, where he joined a supergroup that featured Vernon Reid, Nuno Bettencourt, Adam Wakeman, Rudy Sarzo and Travis Barker.
The album followed “Blizzard Of Ozz” and “Diary Of A Madman” as Osbourne’s third solo project following his dismissal from Black Sabbath in 1979.
“Bark At The Moon” peaked at No. 19 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to triple platinum status for sales of more than 3 million copies in the region.

Hagar was joined on the lead single from “Diary Of A Madman” by a supergroup that featured Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, Living Colour’s Vernon Reid, Tool’s Adam Wakeman, bassist Rudy Sarzo, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.
Following the song, Reid left the stage as event music director Tom Morello joined the lineup for a cover of “Rock Candy”, a track from the 1973 self-titled debut by Montrose, Hagar’s first band.

Downing – who retired from the group in 2011 – was joined by Billy Corgan on vocals, bassist Rudy Sarzo, Tom Morello, and Tool’s Adam Jones and Danny Carey for the track from Priest’s “British Steel” before the lineup delivered the Sabbath song “Snowblind.”
Judas Priest and Black Sabbath were both formed in Birmingham in the late 1960s.
Downing went on to form KK’s Priest in 2019; the band has released two studio albums: 2021’s “Sermons of the Sinner” and 2023’s “The Sinner Rides Again.”
The guitarist was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2022 as a member of Judas Priest.

Black Sabbath reunite for farewell performance
Billed as “Back To The Beginning”, the iconic band were joined at the city’s Aston Villa by a number of guest artists paying tribute to the influential heavy metal band, including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, and more.
Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward took the stage and delivered four songs from the band’s vintage 1970 era, including “N.I.B.” from the self-titled album debut, and three tracks from their second release, “Paranoid”: “War Pings”, “Iron Man” and the closing song, “Paranoid.”
Black Sabbath formed in Aston in 1968, going on to create eight albums and selling over 75 million albums worldwide. Considered pioneers of the heavy metal genre they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, awarded a Lifetime Ivor Novello Songwriting Award in 2015 and were presented with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
When announcing the event earlier this year, Ozzy said: “It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning….time for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.”

The band opened their performance with a cover of “Hole In The Sky” from Sabbath’s 1975 release, “Sabotage”, which was followed by “Creeping Death” and “For Whom The Bell Tolls”, and then delivered “Johnny Blade” from 1978’s “Never Say Die!”, and then closed with the punishing pairing of “Battery” and “Master Of Puppets.”
James Hetfield paid homage to the iconic UK group, telling the crowd: “Let's celebrate the band Black Sabbath, because without Sabbath, there would be no Metallica. Thank you boys for giving us a purpose in life. Thank you Black Sabbath."
Billed as “Back To The Beginning”, the event saw the farewell performances by both Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, where they were joined by a number of guest artists paying tribute to the influential heavy metal band.
