AUDIO: Van Halen perform Light Up The Sky at soundcheck

Van Halen have been mixing up the setlists on their current “A Different Kind Of Truth” tour, giving fans a chance to hear some classic deep cuts that haven’t been played live in many years.

Songs like “Hear About It Later,’ “Outta Love Again,” “The Full Bug” and “Bottoms Up!” from the David Lee Roth-led years are being heard in concert by some fans for the first time, as the Roth and Sammy Hagar-eras only crossed paths when the Red Rocker or Gary Cherone were in the lineup.

As the rare tunes switch in and out of the set, some are being rehearsed during the group’s daily soundcheck, which sees the Van Halen family on stage with Wolfgang often filling in on vocals for the absent David Lee Roth, who skips the pre-show ritual in order to save his voice for the concert.

Video shot during a recent soundcheck in St. Paul, Minnesota captured the band playing the 1979 track, “Light Up The Sky,” with background vocals by Wolfgang.

The video was shot by a fan who was in the venue early as part of a VIP package; occasionally, VIP ticket holders have been able to sit in on soundcheck during the tour.

The first leg of the current tour wraps up June 26 in New Orleans.
