VIDEO: Roseville, CA celebrates Sammy Hagar Day

The northern California town of Roseville celebrated Sammy Hagar Day on Saturday.

Hagar was on hand for the event, which also included the opening of his new restaurant, Sammy Hagar's Rockin' Island Bar and Grill.

“The downtown.. it’s got a historical feeling to it and it’s got soul,” explained Sammy. “I walk into so many cities that have torn the old town down and built brand new condos, and it’s soulless. It’s all generic-feeling stuff. And this place has a feeling and a vibe I thought we’ll put this island right in the middle of it and keep this community alive.”

“That’s my goal,”
sums up Hagar, “is to keep this community right here in downtown Roseville - the old town with the trains and all that stuff - to preserve it. That’s really the coolest thing about it.”

Hagar performed at the invitation-only opening on Saturday; the grand opening is planned for September 22.

The Roseville Patch reports Sammy Hagar Day raised approximatel $40,000 for local nonprofit organizations.

Sammy’s sold-out concert raised money for four local charities — The Me-One Foundation, Tommy Apostolos Fund, Placer Breast Cancer Endowment and Keaton Raphael Memorial. Hagar also partnered with Woodshop Rocks, a guitar-making woodshop class at Buljan Middle School, to design, make and sell guitars at the restaurant.
