Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth is sharing a holiday greeting for fans.
“HappyAppalachiaHoliday! From Me & Russ,” posted Roth, along with one of his sheepdogs.
Some of the first Van Halen videos and images posted in advance of the release of “A Different Kind Of Truth” in February featured Roth and his sheepdogs.
“A lot of folks have emailed us and accosted me on the street about the dog world videos,” explained the singer. “These are my sheepdogs - this is Mike. We’re going to the Nationals – we got invited to the Nationals last time but we didn’t quite make it; we were making the Van Halen record.”
The video features all kinds of herding dog moves as Mike and another dog, Ben, follow Roth’s instructions while herding sheep and cattle, respectively.
“We compete nationally with these dogs,” says Dave. “There’s nobody less qualified to be in these competitions than I, but we go everywhere. These dogs are a great reason to go visit everywhere in the United States and pretty soon, we’re going to visit the United Kingdom, which is kind of where this art form came from.”
