Joe Satriani discusses the new Van Halen album

While doing interviews to promote his upcoming concert film, “Satchurated,” guitarist Joe Satriani was asked for his thoughts on the new Van Halen album, “A Different Kind Of Truth.”

Classic Rock Revisited says they wanted to get Joe’s opinion because of Chickenfoot’s ties to the band, with singer Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony sharing a history between the two acts.

“I kind of like it,” begins Satriani. “I was talking to Sammy about it the other day. I said, ‘You know Sam, I have to congratulate you on the enduring success of Van Halen. It is something that Mike and you should be proud of.’ Mike and Sam were at least as successful, if not more so, than when Dave was in the band. If you turn on any classic rock radio station then you hear just as much Sammy era Van Halen as you do David Lee Roth era Van Halen. As uncomfortable as it might be for those guys to try to sort out business between them, from my perspective, I’m just a guy and I like it all. If I hear Eddie and Alex playing together then I’m pretty much all the way there, immediately.”

“I think that both Dave and Sam brought interesting things to Eddie’s musicianship, as he wrote different kinds of songs with each,” adds Joe. Dave is more vaudeville and Sammy is more rock. For me, just to have a new record with Eddie Van Halen – I like that. When you think that we’ve been missing him for so long – the crime is that we don’t have three new albums.”

Satriani’s “Satchurated” will appear in select US theatres in March; it was filmed live in Montreal on “The Wormhole Tour” in support of Joe’s latest album “Black Swans An Wormhole Wizards.”

”Satchurated” will be the first 3D theatrical concert film release with 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound for the ultimate cinematic experience.

The concert will also be released on both DVD in 2D and Blu-Ray in 3D in April.

I can't deal with anymore of the Chickenfoot members' bullshit statements about Van Halen. He congratulates Sammy on the enduring success of Van Halen....SERIOUSLY? He was asked about the new album and after a backhanded "I kind of like it," he quickly shifts the focus to Hagar. Would it kill them to give David Lee Roth an ounce of credit? Roth has kept the enduring spirit of Van Halen alive. Also, Hagar more rock thabn DLR? That is ridiculous! Joe Satriani is a bitch just like his king Hagar.

Oh please....

Just admit it's a damn good rock record and stop worrying about hurting sammy's feelings! Christ!
What a bunch of phoney's. Once again the whole "sam made VH more popular" is getting old, and fast. Anyone out there who is a true hard rock fan will tell you that chickenfoot is mediocre at best and that VH's new album is kickass from start to finish. Sammy is the weak link in the band due to his lack of an interesting personality. He's a heeluva buisnessman but a horrible boring frontman. I think joe should just step up and admit that eddie is playing better then ever and worry about his new 3D (ugh) project about to be released. I think its time this group focuses more on their music, then every single step that VH makes. The band comes off as lame...period.
I'm happy VH is back and the music is just as heavy. It's what the fans wanted...and we're happy!

Good for Satriani to (somewhat) stay out of this feud. Everyone - including Hagar & Anthony - should be incredibly stoked that Eddie is working again and playing as well as he ever has. I mean, check out VH's opening night show online and try not to smile at just how spectacular a performance they give.

All that matters is the we have a new Van Halen album led by the great David Lee Roth.

Imagine it was 1986, when it should have been released, we would have all been blasting "She's The Woman" and "Big River" with the tops down all summer long.

Stay Frosty!

Hagar rock, and Roth vaudeville ??? "Why can't this be syrup", and "When syrup comes walkin in" ??? How about "One Fire", "Somebody get me a Doctor", "Romeo's Delight" "Unchained", etc... Any more questions?
