Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington kicked off their North American tour Wednesday night in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and video from opening night has surfaced.
“What a first night!!!! Thank you everyone!!!! It was a blast!!!!” posted the band following the 17-song performance.
Dustin Schoof at Leigh Valley Live reports Bennington sounded like [former lead singer] Scott Weiland. He even moved like Scott Weiland. All that was missing was the megaphone.
Bennington made no mention of Weiland, preferring to let his vocal skills and the music do the talking for him. Later in the evening, he did, however, thank the crowd for coming to show their support and the band's "new direction."
The songs sounded tighter, crisper and had a little more pop and sizzle to them. Bennington, singing at a slightly higher register than Weiland's smoky, deeper tone, blended right in with the mix.
It didn't seem to matter who was manning the controls. Based on the loud "S-T-P" chants echoing throughout the room, it was clear that fans were happy just to see Stone Temple Pilots flying high once again.
The group will release a new EP entitled “High Rise” on October 8.
