Tom Petty announces new album and North American tour

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers have announced the July 29th release of their first new studio album in four years, "Hypnotic Eye", and a companion North American tour with Steve Winwood that will begin August 3rd.

“I knew I wanted to do a rock ‘n’ roll record,” Petty recently told Rolling Stone. “We hadn’t made a straight, hard-rocking record, from beginning to end, in a long time.”

“Hypnotic Eye” signals a return to the sound and feel of his first two records, 1976’s self-titled debut and 1978’s “You’re Gonna Get It!”

“That’s what [long-time guitarist] Mike [Campbell] said: ‘You sing like you did on the first two albums,’” explained Petty. “Maybe this album does sound like that. But it’s that band 30 years later.”

Writing material for the 11-track record, co-produced by Petty, Campbell and Ryan Ulyate, took place periodically over the past three years. “You must get the songs,” says Tom. “It takes to write 10 or 11 really good songs.”

“Hypnotic Eye” will be available in CD, digital, high resolution Blu-ray audio and vinyl formats. The vinyl will be available as 1-LP or as 2-LPs inclusive of an additional track not available in any other format.

The North American tour begins August 3rd in San Diego, California.

The trek includes already announced headline performances at San Francisco's Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival and at the Lockn' Festival in Arrington, VA. On Labor Day weekend, for the first time ever, the band will perform at Boston's Fenway Park.

Tickets to many of the newly announced concerts will go onsale at Ticketmaster.com and other ticketing services beginning Saturday May 31.

Every 2014 Tour ticket will include Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' new album, “Hypnotic Eye.”
