Official Fleetwood Mac documentary announced
Apple Original Films has announced a definitive new documentary on Fleetwood Mac is in the works.
Directed by Frank Marshall (“The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” “The Beach Boys,” “Rather”), the project will see band members share their extraordinary story in their own words for the first time.
“I am fascinated by how this incredible story of enormous musical achievement came about,” says Marshall. “Fleetwood Mac somehow managed to merge their often chaotic and almost operatic personal lives into their own tale in real-time, which then became legend. This will be a film about the music and the people who created it.”
Following their fortuitous meeting in 1974, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks reflect on their uncompromising 50-plus-year history, from their record-breaking recordings and tours — including never-before-seen footage, exclusive new interviews, and archival interviews of the late Christine McVie — through to today.
The film will explore how the band’s trials and tribulations, personal resilience, and musical dexterity combined to create songs that have stood the test of time and are enduring masterpieces. It will take fans through the highs and lows of their brilliant career, illuminating the exceptional ingredients each member brought to the band’s uncommon alchemy — a musical union that sold more than 220 million records worldwide.
The documentary will explore what allowed this combination of artists to create singular musical work again and again, and what drew them back together and held them there when every possible pressure, both outside and inside the band, threatened to blow them apart.
A release date for the documentary has not been announced.
Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, Jeremy Spencer and Bob Brunning formed Fleetwood Mac in London in 1967; a short time later, Brunning was replaced by John McVie and the band recorded and issued their self-titled debut album in early 1968.
Pick up your copy of “Rumours” here and the “best of” package “50 Years – Don’t Stop” here.

Fleetwood Mac stream Say You Love Me in Rumours Live album preview
Fleetwood Mac is streaming audio of a 1977 performance of “Say You Love Me” as the latest preview to the September 8 release of the “Rumours Live” album.
The project captures the band in concert at The Forum in Los Angeles while the “Rumours” album was in the middle of a 19-week run atop the US Billboard 200 as the No. 1 album in America.
The nearly 90-minute performance includes live versions of most of the songs from “Rumours” and 1975’s self-titled record, which was the group’s first multi-platinum No. 1 album.
The concert remained unreleased for decades until 2021, when “Gold Dust Woman” from the show was included as a bonus track on “Live: Deluxe Edition”, an expanded version of Fleetwood Mac’s 1980 concert album; the other 17 songs on the collection have never been released before.
“Rumours Live” will be available in multiple formats, including 2-CD and 2-LP sets; the black-vinyl version has two 180-gram records in a gatefold jacket, while a crystal clear-vinyl version will be released exclusively at Walmart.
Pick up your copy of the preview songs here.

The band was at the top of its game in August 1977 when they returned to its adopted home in Southern California to play three shows at The Forum in Los Angeles. “Rumours” had only been out a few weeks when the band left in February to tour the world, returning six months later to play three shows at The Forum for nearly 50,000 fans.
At the time, “Rumours” was the No. 1 album in America and well on its way to becoming one of the most successful ever released, eventually selling more than 40 million copies worldwide, including 21 million in the US alone.
“Rumours Live” delivers the band’s opening night at The Forum on August 29, 1977; the nearly 90-minute performance includes live versions of most of the songs from “Rumours” and 1975’s self-titled record, which was the group’s first multi-platinum No. 1 album.
“The songs are familiar: ‘Dreams,’ ‘Go Your Own Way,’ ‘Say You Love Me,’ ‘Over My Head,’ and on and on,” writes Sam Graham in the set’s liner notes. “The songs are familiar: ‘Dreams,’ ‘Go Your Own Way,’ ‘Say You Love Me,’ ‘Over My Head,’ and on and on. But most of these live versions are more muscular, more ferocious, than the album recordings, driven by the powerhouse Fleetwood-John McVie rhythm section and Buckingham’s febrile guitar playing; and instead of a rote recital of the hits, the group stretches out in concert, as songs like ‘Rhiannon,’ ‘World Turning,’ and ‘I’m So Afraid’ blossom into exuberant tours de force onstage.”
The concert remained unreleased for decades until 2021, when “Gold Dust Woman” from the show was included as a bonus track on “Live: Deluxe Edition”, an expanded version of Fleetwood Mac’s 1980 concert album; the other 17 songs on the collection have never been released before.
Fleetwood Mac is streaming “Dreams” as the first preview to the forthcoming package.
“Rumours Live” will be available in multiple formats, including 2-CD and 2-LP sets; the black-vinyl version has two 180-gram records in a gatefold jacket, while a crystal clear-vinyl version will be released exclusively at Walmart.

Stevie Nicks announces Complete Studio Albums & Rarities box set
Stevie Nicks will release a career-spanning box set next month.
Due July 28, “Complete Studio Albums & Rarities” presents all eight of the singer’s studio albums – from “Bella Donna” to 2014’s “24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault” – alongside a new "Rarities" collection.
The Fleetwood Mac rocker launched her solo career in 1981 with a pair of US Top 10 hits: “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” (with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and “Leather And Lace” (with Don Henley), as her debut album, “Bella Donna”, topped the Billboard 200 on its way to sales of 4 million copies in the region.
Three more records followed in the 1980s – “The Wild Heart” (1983), “Rock a Little” (1985) and 1989’s “The Other Side of the Mirror” – as she continued to tour and release projects with Fleetwood Mac, while more albums eventually followed randomly through the years.
“Complete Studio Albums & Rarities” packages the series into 10-CD and limited–edition 16-LP editions, and adds the new “Rarities” compilation of hard-to-find tracks only available with the set.
“Rarities” collects 23 of Nicks’ best non-album tracks, including numerous contributions to film and television soundtracks like “Blue Lamp” from Heavy Metal and “Free Fallin’” from Party of Five. Several B-sides are featured in the set, including “One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star,” the flipside to her 1985 hit, “Talk To Me.” A trio of songs originally released on Nicks’ 1991 hits collection “Timespace” also appear, including “Love’s A Hard Game To Play”, while “Rarities” closes with Nicks’ most recent release, her 2022 cover of Buffalo Springfield’s classic “For What It’s Worth.”
The 16-LP version ($299.98) limited to 3,000 numbered copies worldwide will be available the same day exclusively from Rhino.com. Several albums in the collection are making their vinyl debut, including “Street Angel”, “Trouble in Shangri-La”, and “In Your Dreams”. All three – plus “The Other Side of the Mirror” and “24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault” – will be released as double LPs housed in gatefold sleeves, while the new “Rarities” collection comes as a 3-LP set in a tri-fold sleeve.
Nicks’ is previewing the 2023 package with a newly-remastered version of “One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star”, which was previously featured in the 1998 box set “The Enchanted Works.”
With sales of nearly 10 million albums in the US, Nicks is the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, first as a member of Fleetwood Mac and then as a solo artist in 2019.
Nicks has concerts scheduled this summer and fall, including several stadium shows co-headlining with Billy Joel.

Fleetwood Mac keyboardist Christine McVie dead at 79
Fleetwood Mac keyboardist Christine McVie has died at the age of 79.
“On behalf of Christine McVie’s family, it is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine’s death,” shared her social media team. “She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie.”
“There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie,” said Fleetwood Mac in a statement. "She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”
No official details have been released about McVie’s cause of death; Rolling Stone reports in an interview with them this past June, the rocker acknowledged that she was in “quite bad health.” She said she was struggling with a “chronic back problem,” though didn’t offer any further information.
Fleetwood Mac formed in London in 1967; McVie released her self-titled debut album in 1970, just prior to joining the group. The keyboardist made her first appearance on record with the band on 1971’s “Future Games”, and was on board for all their releases – including 1977’s iconic “Rumours” set, where she wrote the hits “Don’t Stop” and “You Make Loving Fun” – through to 1995’s “Time” before leaving after their 1998 induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and reunion tour.
Although she released her third solo album, “In The Meantime”, in 2004, McVie largely remained out of the public eye for many years; she regrouped with Fleetwood Mac in 2014 for a series of tours, recorded an album with longtime bandmate Lindsey Buckingham in 2017 and toured the project, and last played with the band in 2019.

Eddie Vedder and Stevie Nicks lead Tom Petty tributes at Ohana Festival
Eddie Vedder and Stevie Nicks were among the artists that performed Tom Petty songs at the Pearl Jam rocker’s Ohana Festival this past weekend in sync with the 5th anniversary of the passing of the Florida singer.
Petty passed away on October 2, 2017 at the age of 66 in a Santa Monica, CA hospital after being found unconscious and in cardiac arrest at his Malibu home.
During her September 30 opening night headline set, Nicks shared the story of how Petty had written “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” before recording it as a duet with her for inclusion on her 1981 solo debut, “Bella Donna”, where it went on to become the project’s lead single and a US Top 5 hit.
As Nicks and her band kicked into the song, Vedder arrived on stage to deliver Petty’s vocal parts to the delight of the crowd.
The next day, Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs played three Petty songs during their set, including “Fault Lines”, “Even The Losers” and “Runnin Down A Dream.”
When Vedder took the stage for his October 1 headline set, he and his band The Earthlings were joined by Campbell for Petty’s “Room At The Top” before the singer recounted how happy he was to have performed with Nicks’ the night before, and then he shared his thoughts on Petty, telling the crowd: “Tomorrow would be five years since we all lost this guy that was a part of our lives; we all lost Tom, and I think about him all the time, as we all do. But I just keep reminding ourselves how grateful we can be because we still have his voice in our head and the songs are in us, and we can play them loud and we can still hear him.
“And tonight, we’re just so fortunate because we also have legendary Heartbreaker Mr. Mike Campbell on the guitar with us tonight. Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs played on this stage today … we got to hear a little Tom already …it's turning into Tomfest this weekend and I couldn’t be happier.”
Vedder, Campbell and the band then launched into Petty’s 1981 classic, “The Waiting.”
Fan filmed video of Petty tracks from each of three artist’s sets has surfaced online.

Vedder, Campbell and the band then launched into Petty’s 1981 classic, “The Waiting.”
Fan filmed video of Petty tracks from each of three artist’s sets has surfaced online.

Stevie Nicks shares cover of Buffalo Springfield classic For What It’s Worth
Stevie Nicks is sharing a newly-released cover of the 1967 Buffalo Springfield classic, “For What It’s Worth.”
“I’m so excited to release my new song,” wrote the singer on social media. “It’s called ‘For What It’s Worth’ and it was written by Stephen Stills in 1966. It meant something to me then, and it means something to me now. I always wanted to interpret it through the eyes of a woman – and it seems like today, in the times that we live in – that it has a lot to say…”
As Rolling Stone notes, Nicks recorded the song earlier this year in Los Angeles with producer Greg Kurstin, longtime guitarist and session legend Waddy Wachtel, and backing vocalist Sharon Celani.
The original Buffalo Springfield version was a US No. 7 hit for the band in early 1967.
Nicks is currently playing dates on a fall US tour; she’ll next be seen appearing at Eddie Vedder’s Ohana Festival in Dana Point, CA on September 30.

Fleetwood Mac classic highlights Amazon Super Bowl commercial
The 1987 Fleetwood Mac classic, “Little Lies”, highlighted the soundtrack to a Super Bowl LVI commercial for Amazon ‘s Alexa service.
The “Tango In The Night” single – a Top 5 hit in more than a dozen countries – was featured in the ad, which starred actor Scarlet Johansson and her husband, Saturday Night Live Weekend Update host Colin Jost.
Titled “Mind Reader”, the commercial sees Alexa frequently adding commentary to the pair’s conversation around the house; it includes the two watching Johansson on screen with Jost asking her about filming love scenes, to which she replies, “It’s the worst”, before Alexa begins playing “Little Lies” in response.
“Is Alexa reading minds a good idea?,” asks Amazon alongside the ad. “No. No it is not.”
Fleetwood Mac were last seen performing on an extensive world tour in 2018/2019 that saw them joined by new live additions Mike Campbell of Tom Petty’s band and Neil Finn of Crowded House/Split Enz fame following the 2018 dismissal of longtime guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.
Fleetwood Mac recently delivered the No. 6 Rock News Story Of The Year and No. 10 Rock News Story of The Year and were named the No. 6 Rock News Artist Of The Year as part of the 2021 hennemusic Rock News Awards.

Lindsey Buckingham streams new single Scream
Lindsey Buckingham is streaming his new single, “Scream”, from his forthcoming self-titled album.
Arriving in sync with the September 1 launch of a US tour in Milwaukee, WI, the tune follows “I Don’t Mind” and “On The Wrong Side” as the third preview to the project, which will be released on September 17.
“Everything on the record is me, for better or worse,” says Buckingham. “Many of the songs on this album are about the work and discipline it takes in maintaining a long-term relationship. Some of them are more about the discipline and some of them are more about the perks. ‘Scream’ is about the perks. It felt very celebratory and it was also very, very simple and short. To the point. It didn’t evolve into some huge thing. It made its case and got the hell out.”
“It just seemed like a good place to start the album, somehow,” he adds. “It’s very upbeat and very optimistic and very positive. It’s a celebration of an aspect of life.”
Buckingham’s wife, Kristen, filed for a divorce from the former Fleetwood Mac rocker in June after 21 years of marriage.
The guitarist produced and recorded the 2021 release at his home studio in Los Angeles over the past few years, after being fired from his longtime gig with Fleetwood Mac in 2018.
