Green Day singer enters rehab following Las Vegas meltdown

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has entered rehab following his on stage meltdown in Las Vegas Friday night.

“Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse,” posted the band on Sunday. “We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances.”

About 30 minutes into their set, producers notified Green Day – via teleprompter – that they had one minute left on stage, causing the group to abruptly stop playing while Armstrong addressed the situation by calling out the show’s producers, flipping them a middle finger and smashing his guitar before storming off stage.

Earlier this month, Armstrong was rushed to the hospital in Bologna, Italy, for an undisclosed illness, causing the band to cancel their appearance at the I-Day Festival.

On Tuesday, Green Day will release “¡Uno!,” the first in a trilogy of new albums; the companion projects “¡Dos!,” and “¡Tré!” will surface November 13 and January 15th, 2013, respectively.
