Deep Purple are debuting a video for “Guilt Trippin’”, the latest single and preview to their forthcoming album, “Splat!”

"Guilt Trippin'" begins with a deceptively gentle piano intro and soon bursts into one of SPLAT!'s most unpredictable and exhilarating moments - featuring one of Ian Gillan's most memorable vocal performances on the album.

Behind the music lies another one of “Splat’s” wonderfully bizarre stories: "Guilt Trippin'" imagines God and Charles Darwin sharing a drink in a pub, reflecting on how things on earth have not exactly worked out according to plan. The accompanying video follows a fly and a sycamore-seed spaceship on a wild ride through the increasingly absurd and dreamlike world of “Splat!”

"The song starts, and I'm in the studio. I don't have any words for it yet," Gillan explains. "So I just start screaming. It was the pure joy of yelling it. I vowed when I was 40 that I'd stop screaming by the time I was 60. Now I'm looking back and thinking, 'Whatever happened to that?' So we'll give it a go."

"I have to say, now we are very much back in with material that is compatible with 'Highway Star,' 'Smoke on the Water,' and 'Lazy,' the dynamics, the balance, and the fun of the music we made from '69 to '73," says frontman Ian Gillan. Deep Purple have announced dates for a summer tour of North American.

Set to begin August 4 in Raleigh, NC, the series will see the UK rockers joined by Kansas and – on select dates, Jefferson Starship.

Tickets for the tour are now on sale.

Last year, Deep Purple released multiple archival projects, including a Super Deluxe Edition of “Made In Japan”, which features new stereo and Dolby ATMOS mixes of the original landmark live album by acclaimed producer Steven Wilson.

Deep Purple release Things I Never Said remix

Deep Purple has released a remixed version of “Things I Never Said”, from the forthcoming 20th anniversary edition of the 2005 album, “Rapture Of The Deep.”

The song was originally included on the Japanese release of the project, as well as appearing on a Special Tour Edition bonus disc of the record.

Due August 29, the “Rapture Of The Deep - 20th Anniversary Remix” includes a brand new mix of the full album, revised artwork, and a bonus disc filled with rare studio rehearsals and instrumental jams.

Produced by Michael Bradford, the band’s 18th studio record was created during a difficult period in the group’s history.

"We were going through a bit of a hard time when we started the songwriting and production of Rapture of the Deep,” says bassist Roger Glover, “and, strangely enough, we didn't have a record company at that point. Let's face it, we were a bit lost (...)."

But from that uncertain moment emerged an album bursting with sharp songwriting, masterful playing, and pure Deep Purple grit.

Now, newly mixed with the supervision of Glover, analogue-mastered at renowned Chameleon Studios in Hamburg, and presented with bold new artwork, “Rapture of the Deep” finally shines with clarity and color.

"It's a new album now to me," adds Glover. “Fans will hear it blooming for the first time.”

Deep Purple is streaming video of a 1972 Tokyo performance of its classic, “Highway Star”, as the latest preview to the forthcoming Super Deluxe Edition of “Made In Japan.”

Due August 15, the package features new stereo and Dolby ATMOS mixes of the original landmark live album by acclaimed producer Steven Wilson; all three concerts in the country were newly remixed by Richard Digby Smith, and several rare single edits – including the German version of “Black Night” and the Mexican edit of “Space Truckin’.”

Originally intended as a Japan-only release, this double live album became a surprise global phenomenon. Released in the U.K. in December 1972 and in the U.S. the following March, “Made in Japan” went platinum in America and several European countries.

Deep Purple is streaming a remixed version of “Clearly Quite Absurd”, from the forthcoming 20th anniversary edition of the 2005 album, “Rapture Of The Deep.”

"'Clearly Quite Absurd' is a very unusual Deep Purple song, which I like,” says Roger Glover. “We've always liked being unusual. We don't follow traditions, really. We are just who we are at a specific time."

The band is also sharing a previously-unreleased instrumental studio rehearsal take of the single’s b-side, "MTV (2005 Studio Jam)" – with Don Airey, Steve Morse, Roger Glover, and Ian Paice running through a track that later appeared as a bonus on select editions of the album.

Deep Purple announce Super Deluxe Edition of Made In Japan

On August 15, 1972, Deep Purple took the stage in Japan for the first of three shows that would give rise to one of rock’s most celebrated live albums, “Made in Japan.”

The band has announced a new Super Deluxe Edition of the landmark release, due out August 15 – exactly 53 years after the first performance was recorded.

Originally intended as a Japan-only release, this double live album became a surprise global phenomenon: released in the U.K. in December 1972 and in the U.S. the following March, “Made in Japan” went platinum in America and several European countries.

Singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, bassist Roger Glover, and drummer Ian Paice – Deep Purple’s famed Mk II lineup – turned studio staples like “Smoke On The Water,” “Highway Star,” and “Space Truckin’” into explosive live statements.

“We came halfway around the world and found the audience singing every word. It was magical,” Glover recalls in the collection’s liner notes.

The band enlisted engineer Martin Birch – who had worked on several of their best-known studio albums – to record the shows to eight-track tape at Festival Hall in Osaka and the Budokan in Tokyo. The performances on “Made in Japan (Super Deluxe Edition)” capture Deep Purple at full throttle, powering through songs from their then-new album “Machine Head”, along with fan favorites like “Child In Time,” “Strange Kind Of Woman,” and “Speed King.”

“Made in Japan (Super Deluxe Edition)” features new stereo and Dolby ATMOS mixes of the original by acclaimed producer Steven Wilson, all three concerts newly remixed by Richard Digby Smith, and several rare single edits – including the German version of “Black Night” and the Mexican edit of “Space Truckin’.”

Wilson harnesses the raw energy of the original tapes in his new stereo and Atmos mixes.

“It’s all completely as it happened on the night,” he says. “The album has a power and sense of abandon that they never quite captured in the studio. Hopefully this new mix makes it feel even more like you’re there.”

A 2LP black vinyl version of Steven Wilson remixes will be available on August 15 and October 3 in the U.S., Canada, and Japan at select independent record stores; the digital companion will be available everywhere on August 15.

“Made in Japan (Super Deluxe Edition)” will be released as a 5CD/Blu-ray set, while a 10LP black vinyl edition will be available exclusively from deeppurple.com and Rhino.com.

Among the highlights is the track "Closing Note," a never-before-heard piece by former guitarist Steve Morse - recorded during the album sessions and now officially released for the first time.

These tracks are available exclusively on all three physical formats - CD Digipak, 3LP Vinyl (black, 180g), and the strictly Limited 3LP Transparent Sky-Blue Vinyl.

Deep Purple release new single Lazy Sod

Deep Purple has released a new single, “Lazy Sod”, from its forthcoming album, "=1".

Asked about the song’s inspiration, frontman Ian Gillan explained in an interview with Germany's Rocks magazine: “Recently, a young journalist asked me how many songs I had written in my life. I replied that the last time my assistant counted, twenty years ago, it was over 500. I felt quite accomplished until she pointed out Dolly Parton’s 5,000 songs, calling me a lazy sod. I couldn’t help but agree and wrote down the exchange in my notebook.”

“Lazy Sod” follows “Portable Door” and “Pictures Of You” as the third single from the record, which will arrive July 19 via earMUSIC and was produced by Bob Ezrin.

The 2024 project marks the iconic group’s first record with new guitarist Simon McBride, who joined the lineup in 2022 when longtime member Steve Morse left due to personal circumstances.

Deep Purple has released a new single, “Pictures Of You”, from its forthcoming album, "=1".

The song follows “Portable Door” as the second preview to the project, which will arrive July 19 via earMUSIC and was produced by Bob Ezrin; the set marks the iconic group’s first record with new guitarist Simon McBride, who joined the lineup in 2022 when longtime member Steve Morse left due to personal circumstances.

"Pictures Of You" will be released on June 28 as a strictly limited edition on CD and 12" vinyl; the single features two previously unreleased live recordings from 2022 in Milan, Italy: "When A Blind Man Cries" and "Uncommon Man."

Deep Purple will launch the summer European leg of the =1 More Time Tour at Spain’s ALMA Occident Festival on June 13.

Deep Purple is streaming a video for “Portable Door”, the lead single from their newly-announced album, “=1”.

Due July 19 and produced by Bob Ezrin, the project marks the iconic group’s first release with new guitarist Simon McBride, who joined the lineup in 2022 when longtime member Steve Morse left due to personal circumstances.

“The new album will reflect what the five of us create in the rehearsal room,” explains McBride. “Many of the songs, like 'Portable Door', were written in the first sessions and literally came together in 5 or 10 minutes. It all was so easy and natural.”

“Throughout Deep Purple's history, our best songs have always been those that were written in no time at all,” adds vocalist Ian Gillan. “We've played what felt good and developed songs as we have always done."

The record’s title “=1” symbolizes the idea that in a world growing ever more complex, everything eventually simplifies down to a single, unified essence: everything equals one.

Deep Purple has announced dates for a North American tour with special guests Yes.

Part of the =1 More Time Tour, the month-long series will begin August 14 in Hollywood, FL, with the schedule wrapping up in Scranton, PA on September 8.

VIP Meet & Greet packages and presale tickets are now available (use password: SMOKE), with general public tickets on sale Friday, April 12 at 10 AM local time.

News of the summer run follows the recent release of UK and European dates in the fall.

Deep Purple recently released an expanded Super Deluxe Edition of its 1972 album classic, “Machine Head.”

The 3-CD/LP/Blu-ray set delivers multiple versions of the album, including new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes by Dweezil Zappa; a 1974 quadraphonic mix and a newly remastered version of the original album are also featured, and the package is rounded out with two live performances from the era.

In the liner notes, Zappa says: “It’s one of those records where I think, ‘How did they come up with this?’ It’s got classical influences in the guitar and the keyboard, but then it’s got the blues and there’s little bits of funkiness. And you have this singer who has the most killer voice. All these things come together in a way where it doesn’t sound like commercial music, yet people got really excited about it. It’s a fascinating recipe.”

Deep Purple announce UK and European tour dates

Deep Purple has announced a series of fall tour dates in Europe and the UK.

Part of the =1 More Time Tour, the month-long series will begin October 17 in Katowice, Poland, with the schedule wrapping up in Glasgow, UK on November 10.

Jefferson Starship will open all continental Europe dates, while Reef will be special guests for the UK shows.

Tickets and VIP Meet & Greet Packages go on presale beginning Wednesday, March 20, with general public tickets on sale Friday, March 22.

Deep Purple will launch its 2024 performances with an appearance at the Singapore Rockfest on May 1.

Deep Purple recently released the first-ever official video for its iconic 1972 track, “Smoke On The Water”, ahead of the March 29 release of an expanded Super Deluxe Edition of “Machine Head.”

Deep Purple release official Smoke On The Water video

Deep Purple has released the first-ever official video for its iconic 1972 track, “Smoke On The Water”, ahead of the March 29 release of an expanded Super Deluxe Edition of “Machine Head.”

Conceived by UK-based Chiba Film, the animated production faithfully interprets the story of the song’s inception. As the legend goes, Deep Purple were in Montreux, Switzerland to record some tracks in a mobile recording studio rented from The Rolling Stones. They were due to record at the Montreux Casino there after Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention played. However, during the concert, a member of the audience shot a flare gun toward the roof, which instantly caught fire. The entire building burned down, and the song recounts the events of that fateful evening.

In the aftermath, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, singer Ian Gillan, bassist Roger Glover, and drummer Ian Paice relocated to the nearby Grand Hotel (empty for the winter season) to record the album.

“It’s been an honour to put visuals to this song, undeniably one of the greatest rock tracks of all time,” says Directors Dan Gibling and Luke McDonnell. “The fact that the song is itself a story meant we had no shortage of inspiration for the scenes that accompany the music. Our idea for the video follows the fact that the band were under pressure to make this record on time after the events that unfolded at the casino.

“We wished to depict all these events and band members accurately, but also elevate the animated video into an exciting action packed chase that sees the band pursued by the stylus as they ride along the deep grooves of the record. On their journey we visit the places and heroes mentioned in the song, as well as encounters with fire, water, smoke, police and even dragons as they strive to take control of the record stylus and cut their track into the vinyl. The writing of the album was an adventure summed up in the lyrics, and we hope we have created an accompanying adventure that existing and new fans will enjoy.”

The video features the 6-minute-plus 2024 remix of the hit, which – in a full-circle moment – was done by Dweezil Zappa, son of Frank Zappa.

The 3-CD/LP/Blu-ray “Machine Head: Super Deluxe Edition” delivers multiple versions of the album, including new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes by Dweezil Zappa; a 1974 quadraphonic mix and a newly remastered version of the original album are also featured, and the package is rounded out with two live performances from the era – a March 9, 1972 show at the Paris Theatre in London during the “Machine Head Tour”, and a previously unreleased concert recorded in April 1971 at the Montreux Casino in Switzerland, before the events depicted in “Smoke On The Water.”

The new Dolby Atmos and 2024 mixes provide fresh and immersive perspectives on this classic album and were made by Zappa using the original tapes.

In the liner notes, Zappa says: “It’s one of those records where I think, ‘How did they come up with this?’ It’s got classical influences in the guitar and the keyboard, but then it’s got the blues and there’s little bits of funkiness. And you have this singer who has the most killer voice. All these things come together in a way where it doesn’t sound like commercial music, yet people got really excited about it. It’s a fascinating recipe.”

Deep Purple will launch a 2024 world tour in Australia in April.

Whitesnake stream Stormbringer from The Purple Album reissue

Whitesnake is streaming a video for the 2023 remix of its cover of the Deep Purple classic, “Stormbringer”, as featured on the newly-available release of an expanded Special Gold Edition of “The Purple Album.”

The 2015 project saw David Coverdale re-record versions of classic tracks from the three albums he appeared on during his three-year tenure with Deep Purple: 1974’s “Burn” and “Stormbringer”, and 1975’s “Come Taste The Band.”

The 2023 reissue sees Coverdale celebrating the 50th anniversary of his Deep Purple work with a newly-remixed and remastered version of the album joined by a series of alternative mixes, live recordings, and the original 1972 demo that landed the rocker his gig with the iconic UK band.

The 2CD/Blu-ray edition includes an extensive collection of videos, a behind-the-scenes look at the album’s making, and a song-by-song commentary by Coverdale, while a 2LP gold vinyl version is also now available.

Whitesnake stream remix of classic Deep Purple cover from The Purple Album reissue

Whitesnake is streaming a video for the 2023 remix of its cover of the Deep Purple classic, “Lay Down, Stay Down”, as featured on the October 13 release of an expanded Special Gold Edition of “The Purple Album.”

The 2015 project saw David Coverdale pay tribute to his work with Deep Purple with re-recorded versions of classic tracks from the three albums he appeared on during his three-year tenure with the legendary group: 1974’s “Burn” and “Stormbringer”, and 1975’s “Come Taste The Band.”

"'Lay Down, Stay Down' was one of the first songs I wrote with Ritchie Blackmore at his house in Camberley, Surrey,” explains Coverdale. “I took the music demo home to Redcar, on the North East coast, where I maintained an apartment overlooking the North Sea. Glenn Hughes drove up from Cannock in the Midlands to hang out, and we messed around with the lyrics. It's a lyric about dealing with bullies - an aspect of the human condition I despise; I can't tell you the original 'working' title I had, as it's quite disgusting. It's about fighting back and not taking any s**t from anybody.

“One of my favorite Ritchie guitar riffs from the 'Burn' album… and my guys totally drive it, as it should be driven…absolute balls to the wall. Super scorching solo from the incendiary Joel Hoekstra and the band firing on all six cylinders.
