Tom Petty shares 1997 Fillmore performance of JJ Cale classic Call Me The Breeze

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers are sharing an animated video of their performance of the 1972 JJ Cale classic, “Call Me The Breeze”, from the forthcoming release of “Live at the Fillmore 1997.”

The full music video was directed and animated by Emmy Award-winning Jeff Scher, whose collection of work is displayed in a number of prominent galleries, including New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.

Due November 25, the project captures the band during the last six nights of a 20-show residency at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, CA in the period following their 1996 soundtrack record, “Songs and Music from ‘She's The One."

The Fillmore album features more covers than originals, paying tribute to the artists and songs that shaped Petty’s love of music as he was growing up; highlights include versions of tracks first recorded by Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Everly Brothers, Bill Withers, Chuck Berry, and more, and guest appearances by The Byrds’ front man Roger McGuinn and blues legend John Lee Hooker.

“Live at the Fillmore 1997” will be available in multiple configurations, including 2CD, 3LP, 4CD, 6 LP, digitally, and a 6LP Uber Deluxe Edition available exclusively on the Tom Petty webstore.

VIDEO: Eric Clapton previews Live In San Diego with JJ Cale

Eric Clapton is streaming a performance of “Anyway The Wind Blows” from his forthcoming package, “Live In San Diego with Special Guest JJ Cale.”

Due September 30, the set captures Clapton joined by longtime mentor J.J. Cale in concert at San Diego's iPayOne Center on March 15, 2007 as part of a tour in support of the pair’s 2008 Grammy Award-winning album, “The Road To Escondido.”

Cale sits in on five tracks, including three from “Escondido” and two made famous by Clapton: “After Midnight” and “Cocaine.”

Before performing with Cale, Clapton said: "This is the realization of what may have been my last ambition: to work with the man whose music has inspired me for as long as I can remember."

Clapton’s touring band at the time included guitarists Doyle Bramhall II and Derek Trucks, keyboardists Chris Stainton and Tim Carmon, bassist Willie Weeks, drummer Steve Jordan and backing vocalists Michelle John and Sharon White.

Opener Robert Cray joined the lineup for the encore of the blues standard, "Crossroads."

“Live In San Diego with Special Guest JJ Cale” will be available as a two-disc CD, a three-disc vinyl set and as a digital album.

Although filmed and recorded, a DVD/Blu-ray release of the concert is not planned.

Clapton recently released his 23rd album, “I Still Do.”

The project sees Clapton reunite with “Slowhand” producer Glyn Johns on the 40th anniversary of the 1976 project that remains one of the guitarist’s biggest-selling studio efforts.

“I Still Do” follows the 2014 chart-topping collaborative album, “Eric Clapton & Friends: The Breeze, An Appreciation of JJ Cale”, which saw the guitarist work with Tom Petty, Mark Knopfler, John Mayer, Willie Nelson and others.

Cale passed away from a heart attack in La Jolla, California on July 26, 2013 at the age of 74.

Singer/songwriter J.J. Cale dead at 74

Singer/songwriter J.J. Cale has died at the age of 74.

“We've lost a great artist and a great person tonight,” was the message posted on his Facebook page. “JJ Cale passed away at 8:00 pm on Friday July 26 at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, CA. He had suffered a heart attack. There are no immediate plans for services. His history is well documented at JJCale.com , http://www.rosebudus.com/cale/ and in the documentary, ‘To Tulsa And Back’. Donations are not needed but he was a great lover of animals so, if you like, you can remember him with donations to your favorite local animal shelter.”

Cale was one of the originators of the Tulsa Sound, a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz influences.

Some of his most recognized songs were hits for others, including “After Midnight” and “Cocaine” by Eric Clapton and “Call Me The Breeze” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Cale was born on December 5, 1938, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1956.

Cale released his first single, “Shock Hop/Sneaky” (as Johnny Cale) in 1958; more singles followed, including 1996’s “After Midnight.”

Along with a number of other young Tulsa musicians, Cale moved to Los Angeles in the early 1960s, where he first worked as a studio engineer. Finding little success as a recording artist, he later returned to Tulsa and was considering giving up the music business until Clapton recorded "After Midnight" in 1970.

Cale's biggest US hit single, "Crazy Mama", peaked at #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1972.

Cale recorded more than 15 albums, including “The Road To Escondido” with Clapton, which earned him a Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Contemporary Blues Album. Clapton recently released Cale’s “Angel” on his 2013 album, “Old Sock,” which featured a guest appearance by the singer/songwriter on guitar.
