Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is streaming a cover of the 1968 classic, “Police On My Back”, in the latest installment of his weekly series No Fun Mondays.
“This was originally written and performed by The Equals, Eddy Grant’s beat group from the 60s,” says Armstrong. “And of course The Clash slay it.”
The song, which first appeared on The Equals’ second record, “Explosion”, was later famously covered by The Clash on their 1980 album, “Sandinista!”

A lyric video for an early demo version of The Clash’s 1985 track, “This Is England”, is the latest preview to the September 28 release of the new collection, “Joe Strummer 001.”
The 1983 take on the 1985 “Cut The Crap” tune – initially titled “Czechoslovak Song / Where Is England” – features Strummer on vocals & guitar alongside Clash bassist Paul Simonon and drummer Pete Howard.
“Joe Strummer 001” features 32 tracks (see song list below) and includes favorites from his recordings with the 101ers, The Mescaleros, his solo albums and soundtrack work alongside 12 previously-unissued songs.
Material for the compilation was sourced from an extensive personal archive kept by the rocker as overseen by Joe’s widow, Lucinda Tait, and compilation producer Robert Gordon McHarg III.
Exclusive to all formats is a solo demo of “Letsagetabitarockin” recorded in Elgin Avenue in 1975, outtakes from “Sid & Nancy” featuring Clash bandmate Mick Jones, and unreleased songs “Rose Of Erin”, the biographical and mythical recording “The Cool Impossible” and “London Is Burning.”
Available in 2CD, 4LP vinyl, digital and limited 2CD Deluxe and Deluxe Box Set versions, all formats include tracks that have never appeared anywhere before as well as new remasters.

The 2002 recording – which developed into the track “Burning Streets” from his posthumously-released 2003 album with The Mescaleros, “Streetcore” - was the last song to be discovered for the new package, which marks the first compilation of the rocker’s career outside of the legendary UK band.

A blue 1963 Ford Thunderbird once owned by Joe Strummer of The Clash is up for sale on auction site eBay.
Originally purchased by Strummer in 1987 for $4,200, the vehicle has remained in pristine condition after spent several years in a climate controlled garage.
According to sellers the Beverly Hills Car Club, Strummer was living in Los Angeles in 1987/88 and the Thunderbird was his principal mode of transport.
The Clash guitarist would take his partner, Gaby, and their two young daughters on family outings to the desert in the T-Bird. In May 1988, he and Gaby drove 850 miles in the car to New Mexico for the Santa Fe film festival, where the Jim Jarmusch film that he starred in, “Mystery Train”, was being screened.
The vehicle will be on sale for 10 days starting Monday, August 11, closing Thursday, August 21 at 19:31:19 PDT – the day Strummer would have turned 62.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band rocked The Clash’s 1979 classic “Clampdown”, as they opened their April 29th concert in Sunrise, Florida, and video from the event is available.
Originally featured on The Clash’s “London Calling” album, Springsteen’s performance included a lead vocal duet with Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who is on the road with the New Jersey rocker.
Springsteen is currently playing shows across the US as part of his "High Hopes" world tour.
Last month, Springsteen inducted The E Street Band into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame at a ceremony in New York.
Pianist Roy Bittan, bassist Garry Tallent, guitarist and singer Patti Scialfa, guitarists Nils Lofgren and Steven Van Zandt, and drummer Max Weinberg shared in the Award For Musical Excellence, a special honor bestowed by the Hall of Fame on sidemen.
The late Clarence Clemons and Danny Federici were inducted posthumously, while original members Vini Lopez and David Sancious joined the current lineup in the honor.
The 2012 documentary, “The Rise And Fall Of The Clash”, is coming to DVD this spring.
Directed by Danny Garcia and co-produced by David Mingay (Rude Boy) and Robin Banks, the film tells the inside story on the collapse of one of the most influential bands of the 1977 UK punk explosion.
“The Rise And Fall Of The Clash” features previously unseen footage of the band at work and at play, interviews with the individual band members and with those who knew them well, and traces the downward trajectory of the band.
The film premiered at the CBGB Festival in New York in 2012, where Garcia told Rolling Stone, "I've been a Clash fan since I was nine or 10 years old. I fell in love with them since 'Spanish Bombs. They were speaking in Spanish! And I felt like they were speaking to me. But why did they disband the way they did?"
Drummer Topper Headon was fired from The Clash in 1982 over his heroin addiction, and guitarist Mick Jones was fired a few months after the band‘s infamous appearance at the 1983 US Festival; Joe Strummer hired replacements and carried on with the band name until shutting things down in 1986.
“The Rise And Fall Of The Clash” will be released on DVD in North America on April 29; dates for other countries are to be announced.

Clash guitarist Mick Jones says the new 12-disc box set, “Sound System” (due September 9), is the band’s final reissue project.
“I'm not even thinking about any more Clash releases,” Jones tells Rolling Stone. “This is it for me, and I say that with an exclamation mark.”

While there was a Clash box set issued about 20 years ago, Jones explains there was a mission for the new project.
“For me, it was a chance to get the music remastered,” says the guitarist. “I knew that some of the tapes were getting rotten. There have been other remasters lately, but in the past few years the technology has really increased. I mean, I buy other peoples' records – mostly old recordings – and I always ask if it's been remastered. I think we'll be hearing more than we heard before, hopefully. That's pretty much what we managed to do with the records. So the box set comes with nearly 99 percent of the Clash's recorded work.”
“I listened to everything,” Jones continued. “It's taken about three years, though I obviously wasn't working on it all that time. But it took three years from its inception until completion. At first, the record company just wanted some reissues. But I looked at is as a chance to get all the stuff out. Then I suggested a box.”
Asked if he found material in the vaults that he didn’t even know existed, Jones says “Yeah. But it didn't really come from one set of archives. They have lots of archive places now on the outskirts of London. They give you a list of things and you go, ‘Oh, can I get a CD of this and that?’ Then you get to hear it all. But we did it all from the original tapes. It's really close to when it first came out of the recording studio. It's the closest we got to that.”

Green Day paid tribute to the late Joe Strummer during their show Wednesday night in London on what would have been The Clash frontman’s 61st birthday.
At the O2 Academy Brixton, Billie Joe Armstrong wished Strummer a happy birthday before Green Day tore into “Letterbomb” from the “American Idiot” album.
The Brixton show featured a full run-through of the band’s 1994 smash, “Dookie”, ahead of performances this weekend at the Reading and Leeds Festivals.
Green Day are on the road in support of their album trilogy, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!.
Black Market Clash, a pop-up store celebrating the work of The Clash, is set to open next month in London.
The event coincides with the September 9th release of three band projects: “The Clash Hits Back”, “Sound System” and “The Clash 5-Studio Album Set”.
Open from September 7-22 at 75 Berwick Street in Soho, Black Market Clash will display items from band’s archives, including video, instruments, stagewear, rare memorabilia and original manuscripts.
The store will open on September 6 with an exclusive launch event, which will be attended by the band.

Clash lead vocalist and guitarist Joe Strummer passed away in 2002 from an undiagnosed congenital heart defect at the age of 50.
The Clash are being honored with a Silver Clef Award in London for their contributions to UK music.
Organized by music charity Nordiff-Robbins and set for June 28 at the London Hilton, the annual Silver Clef Awards honor artists from across the music industry, while raising funds for their music therapy programs.
Despite disbanding in 1986, The Clash have maintained a global following and continue to attract new fans.
"To be given the O2 Silver Clef Award from Nordoff Robbins is a real honor,” said guitarist Mick Jones. “Nordoff Robbins do great work and it feels special to be recognized at the O2 Silver Clef Awards."
"The Clash's music has just as much influence today as it did when they first came onto the music scene in 1976,” added Nordiff-Robbins Chairman David Munns. “It is no wonder 'London Calling' has been described as one of the most influential rock albums of all time. The O2 Silver Clef Award, the most prestigious of the ten awards handed out at the event, is given to a British artist in recognition of their contribution to UK music. Having been enormously influential in the UK music scene for over 35 years, I can think of no band more deserving of this award than The Clash."
In addition to The Clash, other artists being honored include Coldplay (Best British Act), Barry Gibb (Lifetime Achievement) and Alison Moyet (Icon).

Big Audio Dynamite guitarist Mick Jones is a part of a special UK tour this month and, along the way, he’s been playing Clash songs for the first time in nearly 30 years.
The Justice Tonight tour was designed to promote the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, set up by the friends and family of the 96 people who lost their lives in the Hillsborough soccer disaster in 1989. The human crush at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest remains the deadliest stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the worst ever international soccer accidents.
The 6-date tour kicked off December 1 in Cardiff, and wraps up December 10 in Glasgow.
As if the thought if Jones playing Clash tracks live after all these years wasn’t cool enough, the guitarist was joined by Clash bassist Paul Simonon at the tour’s London stop on Thursday, and the two rocked some of the band’s classics.
Jones reunited his post-Clash band, Big Audio Dynamite, earlier this year for a tour.
Mick Jones will be pulling out some old songs for a special tour next month.

The Clash’s iconic 1979 album “London Calling” is coming to Rock Band 3.
Paste Magazine reports the full album will be available as downloadable content on February 1, and will feature pro-mode guitar and bass tracks to help players actually learn the ins and outs of guitarist Mick Jones and bassist Paul Simonon’s parts.
It will also include a special Pro-Instrument-Destruction-Mode, in which players can wildly swing their plastic axes around, inspired by the album’s famous cover shot.

Former Clash guitarist Mick Jones has decided that 2011 needs to be more B.A.D.
Jones tells BBC 6 Music that he is reforming pioneering 1980s band Big Audio Dynamite.
The original five-piece line-up will play a series of dates in the UK in March and April, before heading to the Coachella music festival in the US.
The band's UK reunion tour will kick off in Liverpool on 29 March, wrapping up in Bristol two weeks later.
"It's all the original guys," Jones confirmed. "Thank God we're still alive!"
The group, formed after the dissolution of The Clash, scored hits in 1986 with "E=MC2" and "Medicine Show."
They were renowned for their early use of samples - orchestrated by former film director Don Letts - and a futuristic fusion of rock, reggae and hip-hop.
"I left The Clash in 1983," Jones said. "Club music was coming up and hip-hop was sort of just starting.
"I found myself in a club with Don and Leo [Williams - bass guitar] and I thought 'I would really love to make the sort of music I would hear in a place like this.' And I just felt like I was in a group again. I'd been through this terrible whirlwind with The Clash. We never stopped for a moment and in the end we all became infected with a madness."
Big Audio Dynamite went on to record four albums between 1985 and 1990. Their second, "No. 10 Upping Street," featured contributions from Jones's former Clash bandmate, Joe Strummer.
The original line-up disbanded in 1990, although Jones continued to use the name for a series of projects throughout the rest of the decade.
A film about one of rock’s most critically-acclaimed releases is in the works.
The BBC reports the creation of the classic album, “London Calling,” by The Clash is set to form the basis of a new music biopic.
Former Clash members Paul Simonon and Mick Jones will executive produce the film, named after the 1979 record.
Playwright Jez Butterworth will pen the script, which will tell how producer Guy Stevens worked with the band to create their most celebrated disc.
It will be produced by Alison Owen - mother of singer Lily Allen - and Paul Trijbits of Ruby Film and Television.
"Fans of The Clash all over the world have been waiting a long time to see their extraordinary story played out properly and accurately on the big screen," said Owen. "We're happy that Mick and Paul have given the project their blessing and are on board to help steer the ship."
Butterworth - author of award-winning play Jerusalem - is writing his script with the support of the recently axed UK Film Council.
The cast of the film - which will begin shooting next year - has yet to be announced.
After The Clash disbanded in the mid-1980s, front man Joe Strummer appeared in a number of films before passing away in 2002.
Jones and Simonon currently perform together as part of Damon Albarn's virtual pop band Gorillaz.
