Van Halen opened the 2015 Billboard Music Awards Sunday night with a high-energy performance of their 1984 hit, “Panama.”
The band’s first-ever performance at an awards show by the current lineup is to promote their latest release, “Tokyo Dome Live In Concert”, as well as their summer tour of North America, which begins in Seattle on July 5.
The event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas also saw performances by Simple Minds, Hozier, Ed Sheeran and other pop and rap acts.
Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social-media interactions.
