Iron Maiden share recap video of Run For Your Lives Tour launch

Iron Maiden is sharing a recap video of the opening night of the band’s Run For Your Lives Tour.

The May 27 event at the Budapest Arena in Hungary saw the iconic UK outfit deliver a 17-song set of tracks highlighting the band’s early era, including the first performances for some in more than 20 years - and the first show with new touring drummer Simon Dawson following the retirement of long time member Nicko McBrain.

“Well, what a way of starting this monumental tour with a couple of sold-out nights In Budapest,” shared manager Rod Smallwood. “It was the perfect place to open this tour - a great venue, an incredible city, in fact, one of my favourites, and you very passionate Hungarian fans. And of course, not forgetting the travelling fans that came from far and very wide to experience the excitement of the big reveal! To see hundreds of fans and FC members in the aptly-named Heroes Square the day before the first show was fantastic as always.

“We were delighted to see the reaction and appreciation for the new production that has enabled everyone to experience these iconic songs in a way we’ve never been able to before. This was quite an operation to achieve but we will let you have more insight into that very soon.

We also want to acknowledge the amazing welcome you gave Simon on his first shows with us. He felt your support from the start — and asks me to thank you all.

“A huge thank you to every one of you who kept your phones down, respected the band and your fellow fans, and embraced the show the way it’s meant to be experienced - in the room with us. That was a great boost for us and the band appreciated it greatly. It is so much better when they can see you unencumbered and that drives them on without that distraction. For the selfish few that didn’t and just had to keep videoing... I wish you nothing but a very sore arm! But they were few, and we do hope this support from fans, especially in the floor area in front of the sound desk, continues in Prague tomorrow and beyond. As I said before, by all means take the odd quick pic as a memento of a great night, but otherwise please keep your phone in your pocket.

“On we go now to the first huge outdoor show and another fantastic sold out crowd waiting for us. We’re starting to hit our stride already and it’s going to be some ride for these next couple of months.

See you there. Rod”

The 2025 Run For Your Lives series marks 50 years since bassist Steve Harris formed the band in East London on Christmas Day in 1975 after leaving his former outfit, Smiler; the new group rehearsed for months before making its official live debut in May of 1976.

Iron Maiden released its debut EP, “The Soundhouse Tapes”, in 1979 before issuing a self-titled album the following year; the group has delivered 17 studio albums to date up to and including 2021’s “Senjutsu.”

Iron Maiden currently has tour dates scheduled into August, with more expected to be announced at some point as part of a 2-year global trek.

Official Iron Maiden documentary announced

Universal Pictures Content Group announce it has commenced production on an official untitled Iron Maiden feature documentary.

Universal Pictures Content Group hold global rights and Universal Pictures International is set to release in cinemas internationally in Fall 2025, coinciding with the band’s 50th anniversary year. US theatrical distribution is yet to be confirmed.

The long-awaited documentary is an emotive journey through Iron Maiden’s 50 Year history told from the perspective of both the band and some of their most devoted followers – from longstanding superfans to established names from the worlds of film and music such as Javier Bardem, Lars Ulrich and Gene Simmons. The documentary will also feature exclusive interviews with pivotal band members including the final interview with original vocalist, Paul Di’Anno, who sadly died last year.

Featuring rare archival footage and all-new animated sequences of the band’s legendary mascot, Eddie, the film offers a unique visual experience that highlights Iron Maiden’s widespread impact and the strong connection between the band and their truly global army of fans. The film also explores the cultural movement Iron Maiden has helped shape and their enduring legacy in both music and fan culture, challenging common perceptions of the wider significance of rock music and heavy metal.

“We’re proud Universal Pictures Content Group has chosen to share the unique story of Iron Maiden with the world,” says band manager Rod Smallwood. “We have given them unrestricted access to the band, our fans and musical peers. We trust that they will excite not only music fans but also anyone who loves a story of an underdog beating the odds to become and remain one of Britain’s biggest musical exports since our first record released 45 years ago.”

The official untitled Iron Maiden documentary is directed by Malcolm Venville (Churchill at War) and produced by Dominic Freeman (Spirits in the Forest – A Depeche Mode Film).

Iron Maiden were formed in east London 50 years ago in 1975 and were seen to pioneer the globally inspiring new wave of British heavy metal movement. They have sold well over 100 million records worldwide, performing more than 2500 concerts in 64 countries across 6 continents.

Later this year they will add to this number as they embark on their huge Run For Your Lives Tour starting in Budapest, Hungary in May.

Iron Maiden share Nicko McBrain tribute from his final concert

Iron Maiden is sharing a video tribute to drummer Nicko McBrain from his final concert with the band in Sao Paulo, Brazil on December 7, following his retirement from touring after more than 40 years with the iconic band.

A video package from the event at Allianz Parque includes backstage and on stage footage, including a salute on behalf of the band by singer Bruce Dickinson.

"Tonight is a very special night,” Dickinson told the crowd. “As some of you, I think probably all of you will know, because this morning we announced, Nicko announced that he was stepping back from playing live with Iron Maiden. So, for 42 years Nicko's been in this band. He was a drummer before I was a singer, he was a pilot before I was a pilot, and now he's not leaving the band, but he's just not playing live with us anymore.

“If you do what you gotta do out there tonight, so let him know how much he's loved everybody. So, we have a lot more music to get to tonight, and I want the rest of the night to be a celebration of Nick, a celebration of the joy that he's brought to everybody around the world, not just here in Brazil, alright. And with that, on we go."

"After much consideration, it is with both sorrow and joy, I announce my decision to take a step back from the grind of the extensive touring lifestyle,” shared McBrain on social media before the show. “Today, Sat, Dec 7th, Sao Paulo will be my final gig with Iron Maiden. I wish the band much success moving forward.

"I will, however, remain firmly part of the Iron Maiden family working on a variety of projects, my long time managers, Rod Smallwood and Andy Taylor, have in mind for me. I'll also be working on a variety of different personal projects and focusing on my existing businesses and ventures, including The British Drum Company, Nicko McBrain's Drum One, Titanium Tart, and of course, Rock-N-Roll Ribs!”

Read McBrain’s full statement here.

The drummer joined Iron Maiden in 1982 after the group fired Clive Burr during a tour in support of its third album, “The Number Of The Beast.”

McBrain suffered a stroke in January 2023 hat left him temporarily paralyzed on his right side from the shoulder down; after months of intense therapy, the drummer regrouped with the band for world tour dates.

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain announces retirement from touring

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has announced his retirement from touring after 42 years with the iconic band.

"After much consideration, it is with both sorrow and joy, I announce my decision to take a step back from the grind of the extensive touring lifestyle,” shared McBrain on social media. “Today, Sat, Dec 7th, Sao Paulo will be my final gig with Iron Maiden. I wish the band much success moving forward.

I'll also be working on a variety of different personal projects and focusing on my existing businesses and ventures, including The British Drum Company, Nicko McBrain's Drum One, Titanium Tart, and of course, Rock-N-Roll Ribs!

"What can I say? Touring with Maiden the last 42 years has been an incredible journey! To my devoted fan base, you made it all worthwhile and I love you! To my devoted wife, Rebecca, you made it infinitely easier and I love you! To my kids, Justin and Nicholas, thank you for understanding the absences and I love you! To my friends that are always there for me, I love you! To my bandmates, you made it a dream come true and I love you!

"I look into the future with much excitement and great hope! I'll be seeing you soon, may God bless you all, and, of course, 'Up the Irons!' Nicko"

Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood added on behalf of the band, "Nicko, And we all love you too!! Thank you for being an irrepressible force behind the drum kit for Maiden for 42 years and my friend for even longer. I speak on behalf of all the band when I say we will miss you immensely!

"Ever since Rock in Rio in 1985 we have had a special relationship with Brazil so to bow out of touring in front of 90,000 fans here in Sao Paulo over 2 nights is poetic and you are deserving of all the accolades I am sure these marvellous fans will give you on this last show.

"Phantom look forward to many more years of working with you on the projects you mentioned and I am sure we can find a few more special ones around the Maiden family and FC!

"The band and I all have a thousand great memories of the past 42 years, great gigs, copious platinum and gold discs and awards, love from the fans and one beer too many on too many occasions! Such a bond is forever! And, as Steve Harris says, 'Nicko is and will always be part of the Maiden family'. Rod, Andy, Steve, Bruce, Davey, Adrian & Jan"

"Maiden always get their man and our already chosen new drummer will be announced very shortly."

Former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno dead at 66

Former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno has passed away at the age of 66.

“On behalf of his family, Conquest Music are sad to confirm the death of Paul Andrews, professionally known as Paul Di'Anno,” shared the label today. “Paul passed away at his home in Salisbury at the age of 66.

“Born in Chingford, East London on 17th May 1958, Paul first came to prominence as lead singer of English Heavy Metal band Iron Maiden between 1978 and 1981. He sang on their groundbreaking debut album, “Iron Maiden”, and the influential follow up release, “Killers.”

“Since leaving Iron Maiden, Paul Di'Anno had a long and eventful recording career with Battlezone and Killers as well as numerous solo releases and guest appearances. Despite being troubled by severe health issues in recent years that restricted him to performing in a wheelchair, Paul continued to entertain his fans around the world, racking up well over 100 shows since 2023.

“His first career retrospective album, “The Book of the Beast”, was released in September 2024 and featured highlights of his recordings since leaving Iron Maiden.

“Conquest Music are proud to have had Paul Di'Anno in our artist family and ask his legion of fans to raise a glass in his memory.”

Iron Maiden issued its own statement about the news, saying “We are all deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Paul Di'Anno earlier today. Paul's contribution to Iron Maiden was immense and helped set us on the path we have been travelling as a band for almost five decades. His pioneering presence as a frontman and vocalist, both on stage and on our first two albums, will be very fondly remembered not just by us, but by fans around the world.”

“It’s just so sad he’s gone,”
comments Steve Harris. “I was in touch with him only recently as we texted each other about West Ham and their ups and downs. At least he was still gigging until recently, it was something that kept him going, to be out there whenever he could. He will be missed by us all. Rest in peace mate ⚒⚒.”

“We were very grateful to have had the chance to catch up a couple of years ago and to spend time with him once more. On behalf of the band, Rod and Andy, and the whole Iron Maiden team, we extend our deepest sympathies to Paul's family and close friends.

“Rest In Peace Paul.”

Iron Maiden announce 50th anniversary world tour

Iron Maiden has announced European dates for its 50th anniversary world tour.

The 2025 Run For Your Lives series will mark 50 years since bassist Steve Harris formed the band in East London on Christmas Day in 1975 after leaving his former outfit, Smiler; the new group rehearsed for months before making its official live debut in May of 1976.

Iron Maiden released its debut EP, “The Soundhouse Tapes”, in 1979 before issuing a self-titled album the following year; the group has delivered 17 studio albums to date up to and including 2021’s “Senjutsu.”

The world tour will celebrate the anniversary with a very special set list, spanning the nine studio albums from 1980’s “Iron Maiden” to 1992’s “Fear Of The Dark”, as well as featuring the band’s most spectacular and elaborate show ever.

“Next year is a very special one for Iron Maiden and we’re going to be giving our fans a once-in-a-lifetime live experience," says frontman Bruce Dickinson. "This is a tour that’s gonna put a smile on your face and a cheer in your throat. If you’ve seen us before, then get ready to take that experience to a whole new level. If you’ve never seen us before, then what the hell have you been waiting for? Now’s your chance to find out what you’ve been missing! Iron Maiden’s definitely gonna get ya!”

The 2025 series will open in Budapest, Hungary on May 27; special guests for the first half of the tour, including the London & Dublin outdoor shows but not the UK arenas, will be American rockers Halestorm; the second half of the tour sees Sweden’s Avatar as guests; and, finally, British metal band, The Raven Age, will open all UK & Ireland shows. The festivals will of course be festival billing.

Fan Club Presales begin Monday, September 23, with tickets going on general sale next week – get details at ironmaiden.com.

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain suffered a stroke in January

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has revealed that he suffered a stroke earlier this year ahead of the band’s 2023 Future Past Tour launch in May.

The rocker shared the news with fans in a new video and companion message via the group’s social media outlets.

“Hello Boys and Girls, I hope this message finds you all well!,” he begins. “The reason I'm writing to you all today is to let you know of a very serious health problem that I have been through. In January I had a stroke, thank the Lord it was a minor one referred to as a TIA. It left me paralyzed on my right side from my shoulder on down, of course I was very worried that my career was over but with the love and support from my wife, Rebecca and family, my doctors, especially Julie my OT (Occupational Therapist), and my Maiden family I was able to bounce back to somewhere near 70% recovered.

“After 10 weeks of intense therapy it was almost time to start rehearsals for our tour. I feel it's important to let you know about this now instead of earlier as I was mainly concerned with doing my job and concentrating on getting back to 100% fitness. I'm not there yet but by the grace of God I'm getting better and stronger as the weeks go by.

“Thank you all for a most wonderful and magical tour so far, you have all been so amazing,”
he says. “Well that's it from me. God bless you all, stay safe and well and I look forward to seeing you all somewhere in time.”

Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood added his own thoughts, saying “The rest of the band and l think that what Nicko has been able to achieve since his stroke shows incredible belief and willpower and we are all very proud of him. With this new and musically very complex set to learn ahead of him, he just got his head down and concentrated on recovery. We honestly did not know if he would be able to play a whole show until band rehearsals started in May and there was just so much support for him from the band and then genuine relief for all when we saw he was going to be able to do it!”

"Nicko being Nicko he did not want to make a fuss and cause any distraction to the tour at the time but, now that he is sure he will soon get there, he thought you fans should know straight from him rather than by any rumours!"

"We are all of course delighted he battled through this so well and look forward to many more tours together starting with the three Western Canada shows and Power Trip in California coming up in a couple of months time. We can’t wait! This tour is that good!”

Iron Maiden wrap up the European leg of The Future Past Tour tonight at Germany’s Wacken Open Air festival; the series will resume with shows in Western Canada late next month before a performance at the Power Trip festival in Indio, CA in early October.

The band’s latest album is 2021’s “Senjutsu”; get your copy here.

Iron Maiden awarded UK gold album for Senjutsu

Iron Maiden were awarded a Gold Album award for UK sales of more than 100,000 copies of their latest album, “Senjutsu”, prior to a two-night stand at London’s O2 Arena last weekend.

Warner Music UK CEO Tony Harlow was on hand for the presentation during the group’s appearance on The Future Past Tour.

"Gold? That’s fantastic,” says singer Bruce Dickinson. “From the launch of the first ‘Senjutsu’ track, ‘'The Writing On The Wall', we knew that this album would work really well live, and we’re delighted that fans totally bought into an album with four songs over eight minutes long and another that is almost 13! This UK tour has been incredible, and it reminds us how much our music - both new and historical - means to fans both in the UK and all around the world.”

"It’s terrific to continue to be awarded gold discs whilst touring through the great cities of Europe,”
adds Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood. “With a set containing five songs and around 50 minutes from this latest album, the fans are loving it! It’s a vindication of the band’s intent to perform new music and the relationship we have with our fans that we continue to sell past landmarks like this in our home country and globally. We’ve always been proud to fly the flag for Britain, and to be acknowledged with yet another gold album here is very satisfying. I think this makes it about our 20 somethingth(!) UK gold album is going back over 40 years! Some record in more ways than one!"

Upon its release in 2021, “Senjutsu” topped the UK Vinyl Albums chart and delivered Iron Maiden the highest US chart placement of their career when it debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, beating their previous No. 4 entries with both 2010’s “The Final Frontier” and 2015’s “The Book Of Souls.”

The group’s The Future Past Tour features previously unperformed songs from “Senjutsu”, along with a focus on 1986’s “Somewhere In Time” record, plus other classic cuts.

Following the completion of a UK leg, the band will return to Europe for more shows starting July 11 in Amsterdam.

Iron Maiden share video of guitarist Dave Murray’s touring rig rundown

Iron Maiden is sharing a video rundown of the rig used by guitarist Dave Murray on the group’s 2023 tour.

“Here’s a very nice piece of #KillerKontent for all you guitar nerds out there,” says the band.

Guitar tech Colin Price gives viewers a behind the scenes look at the guitars and companion gear used by Murray on The Future Past tour, which features previously-unperformed songs from the band’s most recent studio album, “Senjutsu”, along with a focus on 1986’s “Somewhere In Time” record, plus other classic cuts.

“We’ve decided to revisit ‘Somewhere In Time’ as that tour didn’t feature in the various retrospective history tours we’ve played over the years,” explained Steve Harris last fall. “They were based on our 80’s concert videos and sadly we did not film that tour (blame the manager!!). We have had lots of requests from fans over the years for many tracks on it so we are now going to play them, plus of course a few others we know you will like!

“It will also be particularly satisfying to finally get to play some of the more epic tracks on ‘Senjutsu’, it's been a long wait! 2023 is going to be an exciting time and we’re really looking forward to seeing everyone again in the UK, Ireland and around Europe."

Iron Maiden will continue the tour in the next week with shows in Dublin, Glasgow, Leeds and Manchester.

Iron Maiden share pre-show video from Poland

Iron Maiden is sharing pre-show video from a June 13 performance at the Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland as part of the band’s Future Past Tour.

After checking out a Deep Purple show at the venue the night before, singer Bruce Dickinson explains that “the stage is art one end of the hall and, as a penance for just being amazing, we decided to ask the road crew if they could move the stage.”

The footage shows the crew taking on the task as more gear continues to be loaded in ahead of the first of two performances in Krakow.

“The tour is going great, we are loving it,” adds Dickinson. “It seems to be going better every day, which is a good thing … you don’t want it going the other way, no. Coming to a venue near you.”

The Future Past Tour – which opened in Ljubljana, Slovenia on May 28 – highlights material from the band’s most recent studio album, “Senjutsu”, and 1986’s “Somewhere In Time”.

Following a second appearance in Krakow on June 14, Iron Maiden will headline France’s Hellfest on June 17.

Iron Maiden share video of Nicko McBrain birthday celebration in Finland

Iron Maiden is sharing video of Nicko McBrain’s birthday celebration onstage in Finland during the band’s Future Past Tour.

“I was going to talk about the ‘Death Of The Celts’, but no,” Bruce Dickenson told the crowd at Tampere’s Nokia Arena on June 4, teasing the next song in the show. “Let’s talk about something far more important: the life of Nicko McBrain for one more year!”

With that, Dickenson led the crowd in a ‘Happy Birthday’ singalong for the drummer, who would turn 71 the next day, on June 5.

The second of two nights in Finland marked the fifth date of Iron Maiden’s world tour, which features previously-unperformed songs from the band’s most recent studio album, “Senjutsu”, along with a focus on 1986’s “Somewhere In Time” record, plus other classic cuts.

“Senjutsu” delivered Iron Maiden the highest US chart placement of their career when it debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, beating their previous No. 4 entries with both 2010’s “The Final Frontier” and 2015’s “The Book Of Souls.”

Iron Maiden share video of new Nicko McBrain drum kit

Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden can be seen in a new video giving fans a guided tour of his live drum kit as seen on the newly-launched Future Past Tour.

The series – which opened in Ljubljana, Slovenia on May 28 – highlights material from the band’s most recent studio album, “Senjutsu”, and 1986’s “Somewhere In Time”.

The iconic metal group will play across Europe all summer, mixing headline dates with appearances at festivals like Sweden Rock, France’s Hellfest and Italy’s Return Of The Gods event, before wrapping things up at Wacken Open Air in early August.

Ahead of a set at California’s Power Trip Festival in the fall, Iron Maiden will play some dates in Western Canada, including stops in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.

“As a prelude to our appearance at the Power Trip Festival in Indio, CA in October we’re delighted to bring our Future Past shows to our fans in Western Canada,” says manager Rod Smallwood. “It’s been quite a few years since we were last there and audiences are always terrific. We look forward to seeing you all again.”

Iron Maiden share video from opening night of The Future Past Tour

Iron Maiden is sharing a video recap from the opening night of The Future Past Tour.

The May 28 event at the Stožice Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia launched the 2023 series, which will features previously-unperformed songs from the band’s most recent studio album, “Senjutsu”, along with a focus on 1986’s “Somewhere In Time” record, plus other classic cuts.

The Slovenia show saw Iron Maiden deliver the live debut of five songs, including four from “Senjutsu” and one from “Somewhere In Time”, according to setlist.fm, as well as a number of tracks that haven’t been performed in years.

“What an explosive start to the tour,” says the group. “Thank you Ljubljana!”

Iron Maiden will continue The Future Past Tour this week with two shows in Prague, Czechia and a pair in Tampere, Finland.

Ghost stream Iron Maiden classic from new covers EP Phantomime

Ghost is streaming a version of the 1980 Iron Maiden classic, “Phantom Of The Opera”, as the latest preview to the forthcoming covers EP “Phantomime.”

Originally issued as part of Iron Maiden’s self-titled debut album, the 2023 version sees Ghost update the song for the five-track project alongside tunes recorded by Genesis, Tina Turner, The Stranglers and Television.

Due May 19, the release of “Phantomime” will coincide with Ghost’s first live dates of the year, beginning with a May/June European run of festival and headline dates including appearances at Primavera Sound 2023 where the band will share a bill with Blur, Depeche Mode, Halsey and Kendrick Lamar, among others, and Sweden Rock Festival 2023, where Ghost will be one of four headliners alongside Def Leppard, Iron Maiden and Motley Crue.

“Phantomime” follows Ghost’s 2022 album, “Impera”, which delivered a career high for the band when it debuted at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 upon its release last spring; the project won the inaugural Favorite Rock Album category at the 2022 American Music Awards last fall and was recently honored with a Grammis Award in the band’s native Sweden.
