It’s possible the happiest GNR player involved is drummer Steven Adler, who was fired from the band in 1990 over his heroin addiction. Adler’s struggles with addiction are well documented, and he’s been doing a GNR tribute act (of sorts) called Adler’s Appetite since 2003.
For years, Adler has been publicly lobbying for a reunion of the original GNR, holding out hope that the planets will align and things will put themselves back together.
The planets may have done some of the work with Wednesday’s announcement by the Rock Hall, but only time will tell if the original GNR will get things together to function as a unit – and perform – at the induction ceremony on April 14.
Given the apparent desperation in his public pleas for a reunion over the years, Adler was surprisingly restrained, but appreciative, with his comments on Wednesday’s news.
“Thank you all for your support in making this happen,” Steven said. “It really means a lot to me. I am happy and excited to be a part of this!”
Guitarist Slash has offered his thoughts on the news – read about it here.
