Billy Idol debuts alternate Sweet Sixteen video

Billy Idol is debuting an alternate color music video for “Sweet Sixteen,” in sync with this week’s 40th anniversary of his 1986 album, “Whiplash Smile.”

The clip for the third single from the rocker’s third studio record was filmed in 1987 at Coral Castle in Homestead, Florida, and never released until now.

"Sweet Sixteen" tells the story of Edward Leedskalnin, a Latvian immigrant whose fiancée left him the day before their wedding. He came to America and spent nearly three decades carving more than a thousand tons of stone into the monument now known as Coral Castle, working alone and mostly at night. Asked why he built it, he would say it was for his "Sweet Sixteen." Billy Idol learned of this story in the early 80s and wrote the song in 1983; he has called it "a heartfelt lament with a story behind it."

Two videos were made for the single in 1987. The black-and-white performance clip went to MTV and is the version fans have known ever since. This one was shot in color at the castle itself, with Idol among the stone chairs Leedskalnin carved. It was set aside and never released.

For this release, the video has been rebuilt from the original film source, re-edited shot by shot, and color graded from the full range of the film.

Billy Idol will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026; the event will be taped on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and will debut in December on ABC and Disney+.

Billy Idol releases R3HAB Remix of classic hit Cradle of Love

Billy Idol has released a new remix of his classic 1990 single "Cradle of Love."

The "Cradle Of Love" R3HAB Remix – out now via Ume – is featured in a new video visualizer that pays homage to the spirit and iconic imagery of the original 1990 MTV-era classic "Cradle of Love" music video while reimagining its provocative energy.

"Billy Idol is a living legend, one of the defining voices of a massively influential era of rock music," notes R3HAB. "His catalog speaks for itself. It's been a few years since I've worked on a rock record, and 'Cradle Of Love' is a classic, so this remix presented a fun and fresh challenge for me. My goal was to keep the spirit of the original while updating the production to bridge the song to a new audience. We love how it turned out and are happy to share it today."

In addition to the new remix, Idol is currently on the road for his highly successful world tour, It's A Nice Day To...Tour Again!, which saw him sell out venues across the U.S., Europe and Latin America throughout the past year.

Billy Idol releases John Wayne video with Alison Mosshart

Billy Idol has released a video for “John Wayne”, featuring Alison Mosshart, as the latest track issued from his album “Dream Into It.”

Idol and Mosshart originally teamed up on the song for his 2008 compilation, “The Very Best of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself”, and re-recorded it for his 2025 record.

“It was great to work with Steven Sebring once again on a music video,” says Idol. “This one was inspired by our mutual love of westerns and spaghetti westerns while also playing homage the great masters like Leone and Warhol.

“And having Alison on the track made it 3x better. We did it first at the Hoover Dam and I thought wouldn’t it be great to have this version on the Dream Into It record. Much love to Alison for bringing an incredible spirit to this song and video.”

Billy Idol among 2026 Rock Hall inductees

Billy Idol will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026.

Set to be inducted alongside Idol is his longtime guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens; the pair performed their hit “Rebel Yell” on “American Idol” with judge Carrie Underwood during the unveiling of this year’s class.

“Being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside so many of my heroes and influences is a tremendous honor,” notes Idol. “And to be inducted alongside my longtime compatriot Steve Stevens makes this all even more special. When I first started playing with Generation X 50 years ago, it was purely out of love for the music we were making and the scene that we were lucky enough to be a part of. Nobody, especially me, thought it would take me to where I am today. I’m incredibly grateful to all the people who have been behind me over the years, because none of this would have been possible without them. This honor is for my fans, and everyone who has been on this journey with me, as much as it is for me.”

“I am deeply honored to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Billy Idol,”
adds Stevens. “If there’s anyone that deserves to be in the HOF it’s Billy. For more than four decades, we have shared a remarkable journey full of music, creativity and unforgettable experiences. Thank you to the Rock Hall, to the fans, and to everyone who’s been part of the story!”
