Foo Fighters perform Child Actor for new Vevo Extended Play Series

Vevo, the world's leading music video network, announces the release of Foo Fighters' very special live performance of "Child Actor," from their new album, “Your Favorite Toy,” as a part of Vevo's original content series, Extended Play.

Through artists' close collaboration with Vevo's team, Extended Play features bespoke performances and stories by artists in special locations that inspire the vision of their latest project.

"Child Actor" is the first video drop of this series, which will culminate with a short film that blends exclusive interviews and live performances to spotlight the art of songwriting.

Filmed at Foo Fighters' 606 studio in Los Angeles, the band's performance of "Child Actor" is an intense and personal meditation on the nature of and relationships between fame, self-worth and validation.

Alternating between quick cuts and lingering full shots of each band member, the video mimics the "hurry up and wait" nature of the industry. The performance crescendos into a full-band chorus of "turn the cameras off, turn the cameras off," before fading to black.

"Working with Foo Fighters was an incredible experience for our entire team," says JP Evangelista, EVP of Content, Programming and Marketing, Vevo. "From the moment we started collaborating, it was clear why they've stayed at the top of rock for over two decades: the energy, musicianship and passion they bring to every performance is truly unmatched. They were generous collaborators who were deeply invested in getting every detail just right, all while being down-to-earth and fun. Having the opportunity to partner with a band of this caliber who still perform with the hunger of a group just starting out is the kind of moment that reminds us why we do this job."

Foo Fighters recorded its 12th full-length studio set at home; it was co-produced by the band and Oliver Roman, engineered by Oliver Roman and mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent.

The group is currently playing dates across North America.

Foo Fighters release title track to new album Your Favorite Toy

Foo Fighters have released their brand new single "Your Favorite Toy", which is also the title track to the band’s forthcoming studio album.

Due April 24 via Roswell Records/RCA Records, the band recorded its 12th full-length studio album at home; it was co-produced by Foo Fighters and Oliver Roman, engineered by Oliver Roman and mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent.

Billed as a perfect first taste and representation of the album, “Your Favorite Toy” sounds like nothing else in the band’s monolithic discography, while instantly and unmistakably identifiable as Foo Fighters.

"'Your Favorite Toy' really was the key that unlocked the tone and energetic direction of the new album,” says Dave Grohl. “We stumbled upon it after experimenting with different sounds and dynamics for over a year, and the day it took shape I knew that we had to follow its lead. It was the fuse to the powder keg of songs we wound up recording for this record. It feels new."

The arrival of the set’s title track was preceded by last year's single, "Asking For A Friend."

Your Favorite Toy's release heralds Foo Fighters' massive Take Cover world tour, which kicks off June 10th at Unity Arena in Oslo, following a pair of US festival headlines at Welcome to Rockville and Bottlerock.

From reuniting as a band and staring at a list of 30 years worth of songs to brush off, to reimagining versions with the incredible blessing of the one and only Ilan Rubin behind the drums, to reconnecting with our amazing fans and blasting them with everything we've got (no matter the size of the venue) because we would not be here without them, we have the most solid core. And the sun is finally rising over the horizon.

"What better way to share the view than with close friends?"

Foo Fighters fire drummer Josh Reese

The Foo Fighters have fired drummer Josh Freese.

The rocker shared the news via social media, saying “Well, there it is,” at the start of the announcement.

"The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they've decided 'to go in a different direction with their drummer.' No reason was given. :(

"Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band. In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I've never been let go from a band, so while I'm not angry-just a bit shocked and disappointed.

"But as most of you know I've always worked freelance and bounced between bands so, I'm fine. Stay tuned for my "Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters" list."

At press time, the Foo Fighters have not issued a statement regarding the lineup change.

Freese joined the group in 2023 following the passing of Taylor Hawkins a year earlier while the group was on tour in South America.

Currently a member of A Perfect Circle, Freese has long been known as an in-demand session drummer who has performed with a number of acts, including Guns N’ Roses, The Offspring, and Nine Inch Nails, among others.

Dave Grohl releases debut live performance of Play

The newly-released “The Benefit Concert Volume 20” by Warren Haynes includes a spectacular highlight: the first-ever – and only to date – performance of Dave Grohl's 23-minute instrumental epic, "Play," which extends to an extraordinary 36 minutes in its live rendition.

This live performance is now available, offering fans the opportunity to witness "Play" being brought to life on that unforgettable evening for the first time since the Foo Fighter released it in the summer of 2018.

Originally composed and performed entirely by Grohl on every instrument, "Play" is an expansive journey through Grohl's musical prowess and creativity. The video release captures the energy and intensity of "Play" as rendered by Grohl and a veritable murderers row of musical accomplices including Greg Kurstin (keys), guitarists Jason Falkner, Alain Johannes and Barrett Jones, Chris Chaney (bass) and Drew Hester (percussion). The performance's distinctiveness was further elevated by the rhythmic artistry of Abby the Spoon Lady, a prominent Asheville-based busker and advocate for street performance, whose unique spoon-playing skill brought an unexpected and captivating dimension to "Play."

Delivering a blend of visual and auditory artistry, this one and only live version of "Play" is a key highlight of “The Benefit Concert Volume 20”, which presents a collection of standout performances from Haynes' 30th Annual Christmas Jam, bringing together a diverse group of artists.

In addition to Haynes and Grohl, other featured artists on the set include Eric Church, Joe Bonamassa, Gov't Mule, Mike Gordon, Marco Benevento, Jamey Johnson, Edwin McCain, Kevn Kinney, Tyler Ramsey, Scott Murawski, and Ron Holloway, along with Machan Taylor, Mini Carlsson, Mike Barnes, and Ray Sisk sitting in with Gov't Mule.

The album and the event itself serve not only as a musical spectacle but also as a philanthropic endeavor, with all proceeds being donated to the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity.

Recorded on December 7th and 8th, 2018, in Asheville, North Carolina, the concert was not just a musical feat but also a significant charitable event, raising over $2.8 million for the Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity.

“The Benefit Concert Volume 20” is now available physically on four different double vinyl volumes (in different colors: purple, orange, blue, red), 2-CD + DVD set, and 3-CD + 2 Blu-ray set, along with a digital-only format.

Wolfgang Van Halen performs acoustic cover of Foo Fighters classic

Wolfgang Van Halen and his touring lineup of Mammoth WVH delivered an acoustic cover of the Foo Fighters classic, “My Hero”, during a visit to OUI FM in Paris, France, and the radio station is sharing video of the performance.

When Wolfgang launched the project in 2021 with a self-titled debut album, he told Bass Player “One of the biggest inspirations was Dave Grohl. When he started the Foo Fighters, he did everything himself on their first album. I wanted to have a go at that, I guess, and I’ve always admired bands like Nine Inch Nails, where the project emanates from one person and grows from there. That’s kind of how I view it, even though it is still me. I view it more as a band than some sort of solo project.”

The connection between the two rockers developed further last fall when Grohl joined Wolfgang to perform some Van Halen classics during a pair of tribute concerts in honor of the late Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Now on the road promoting the newly-released “Mammoth II” album, during the OUI FM visit Wolfgang and the live lineup also shared unplugged versions of the 2023 record’s lead track, “Another Celebration At The End Of The World”, and follow-up single, “Like A Pastime.”

Mammoth WVH are currently playing dates on a North American tour.

Nirvana expand In Utero for 30th anniversary reissues

Nirvana will commemorate the 30th anniversary of "In Utero" with a series of expanded reissues on October 27.

The follow-up to 1991’s breakthrough, “Nevermind”, was the Seattle band’s third and ultimately final studio album.

Produced by Steve Albini and recorded over the course of six days in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN, “In Utero” was originally launched with the lead single, “Heart-Shaped Box”; the project would go on to mark Nirvana's first No. 1 debut on the US Billboard 200, with the set selling more than 6 million copies in the region and a total of 15 million worldwide.

The 2023 reissue series will include a limited-edition 8LP Super Deluxe box set, 5CD Super Deluxe box set, 1 LP + 10" edition, 2CD Deluxe edition, and a Digital Super Deluxe edition.

The three Super Deluxe Edition releases comprise a total of 72 tracks with 53 previously unreleased tracks. Among the unreleased material, two full In Utero-era concerts, namely “Live In Los Angeles” (1993) and the band's final Seattle performance, “Live In Seattle” (1994), are included in addition to six bonus live tracks from Rome, Springfield, and New York.

Seattle producer and engineer Jack Endino - who helmed the band's 1988 debut Bleach - reconstructed the live tracks from stereo soundboard tapes for this year's reissue. Additionally, In Utero's original twelve songs, along with five bonus tracks and B-sides, have been newly remastered from the original analog master stereo tapes by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Services-who assisted Albini as the only other engineer at the original sessions.

The physical Super Deluxe Edition box sets also boast a removable front-cover acrylic panel with the album's iconic Angel; a 48-page hardcover book with unreleased photos; a 20-page newly designed fanzine; a Los Angeles tour poster lithograph by hot rod artist Coop; replicas of the 1993 record store promo Angel mobile, three gig fliers, two ticket stubs for Los Angeles and Seattle, an All-Access tour laminate, and four cloth sticky tour backstage passes: Press, Photo, After Show, and Local Crew.

Foo Fighters share rehearsal performance of Under You

Foo Fighters are sharing video of a rehearsal performance of “Under You”, a track from the group’s latest album, “But Here We Are.”

The tune was one of three songs from the album – ahead of its release – that were featured during the band’s May 21 livestream event, “Preparing Music For Concerts”, which included the reveal of new drummer Josh Freese.

The hour-long livestream marked the first 2023 appearance of the band as they returned to action following the passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins last year while on tour in South America.

Originally a member of the California punk band The Vandals, Freese’s history includes stints with Guns N’ Roses, Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, Devo and Sting, among others, and work as a session drummer on hundreds of records in a variety of genres.

Freese was one of several drummers to perform with the Foo Fighters at both of the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts in London and Los Angeles last fall.

“But Here We Are” was produced by Greg Kurstin and the band.

Foo Fighters will play Japan’s Fuji Rock festival on July 29 ahead of a series of US dates next month.
