Def Leppard guitarist’s Manraze release I Surrender lyric video

Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen’s side project, Manraze, have relased a lyric video for the title track from their newly-released EP, “I Surrender.”

Formed in 2004, Manraze features Collen, Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook and Simon Laffy, the bassist from Collen's former glam-band, Girl.

"The song is 8 years old,” said Collen of the title track and new single. “It practically never got finished. I was on tour last year and started singing the chorus. Early this year, I re-did the guitars to Paul's original demo drums. I did a vocal and Simon played new bass-lines. Ger McDonnell then did a brilliant edit and mix on what we gave him. Debbi Blackwell-Cook supplied the wailing outro-vocals that you hear at the end of the song. We feel this is our best song yet."

The EP contains three songs, including the title track, which features background vocals by Debbi Blackwell-Cook, who also appears on "All I Wanna Do", a newly-recorded version of the song which first appeared on the trio’s 2011 sophomore album, “punkfunkrootsrock.” The final track is “Connected” - Live from Shepherd’s Bush, a live studio performance from a studio podcast session, previously unreleased.

With some down time in the Def Leppard camp, guitarist Phil Collen continues to work on promoting his side band, Manraze.

Manraze is a rock trio made up of Collen, the Sex Pistols’ drummer Paul Cook, and Collen’s former Girl band bassist Simon Laffy.

Last year, Manraze released their second album, “PunkFunkRootsRock.”

Collen spoke about Manraze and Leppard while in New York for a radio interview with Q104.3.

The guitarist also pulled out the acoustic for live performances of the Manraze track “All I Wanna Do,” and the Leppard classic, “Hysteria.”

VIDEO: Manraze – Take On The World

Manraze, the rock trio made up of Def Leppard’s lead guitarist Phil Collen, the Sex Pistol’s Paul Cook (drums), and Collen’s former Girl band bassist Simon Laffy, have unleashed their new single.

The video for “Take On The World” has been created in conjunction with director Mark Sloper’s documentary, “The Showdown: I, Super Biker II.”

The film is the sequel to “I, Superbiker,” which chronicled Tommy Hill’s rise to become the 2011 British Superbike racing champion.

The sequel hits 135 theatres across the UK on February 21.

Sloper approached Manraze about delivering a game-changing anthem that would embody the spirit of the British super bike racers.

“Tommy’s been through the ringer,” says Collen. “I love stories about people overcoming such adversity. Writing this song for him was a no-brainer. Check out his history. We really admire him.”

Manraze’s new rock/dance track features newcomer Debbi Blackwell-Cook.

VIDEO: Def Leppard guitarist covers Jimi Hendrix

When guitarist Phil Collen isn’t rocking with Def Leppard, he’s out rocking with Manraze.

Formed in 2004, Manraze is a power trio made up on Collen, Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Simon Laffy, who was in Collen’s pre-Leppard band, Girl.

This year, Manraze released their second album, “PunkFunkRootsRock,” which contained 12 tracks and included one cover – Jimi Hendrix’ classic “Fire.”

According to the band, “Fire” has been a staple of Manraze's live shows since their first London gigs began in 2005. Hendrix's three-piece band provided the signature blueprint for Manraze.

The band has released new video of their Hendrix performance.
