The Doobie Brothers expand Walk This Road North American tour

The Doobie Brothers have expanded a North American tour in support of their latest album, “Walk This Road.”

The dates will feature the reunited Doobie Brothers lineup of Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston, John McFee and Michael McDonald and feature music from the first new album by the foursome in over 40 years.

The September and October headlining shows will follow on the heels of the band's previously announced summer tour dates with Carlos Santana.

Tickets for the fall run – which kicks off on September 26 in Northfield, OH and will wrap up on October 21 in Estero, FL – are now on sale.

Santana and The Doobie Brothers announce Oneness tour

Santana and The Doobie Brothers will team up this summer on the Oneness Tour, bringing together two of classic rock’s most beloved and celebrated acts for a special run of dates across North America.

The series will kicks off with two nights at Red Rocks with an evening with Santana, with The Doobie Brothers joining the tour starting June 13 in Chicago, with dates scheduled to wrap up on August 27 in Shakopee, MN.

The tour ignites Santana’s high-energy, passion-driven hits spanning more than five decades—from the epic breakthrough of Abraxas to Woodstock to the global phenomenon of Supernatural and beyond.

Critically acclaimed rock icons The Doobie Brothers will appear on the majority of tour dates, bringing their rich legacy of roots-based, harmony-laden, guitar-driven rock and roll to fans across North America. The legendary hitmakers (Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons, John McFee, and Michael McDonald) will perform all the hits fans know and love as well as new music from their highly acclaimed new album, Walk This Road.

Santana and The Doobie Brothers share a history of touring together — most notably in 2019, when The Doobie Brothers supported Santana on the Supernatural Now tour, celebrating major milestones in Santana’s career, including the 20th anniversary of Supernatural and the 50th anniversary of his iconic performance at Woodstock.

Rock News Artist of The Year No. 7 – THE DOOBIE BROTHERS

In January, The Doobie Brothers detailed plans to release a new album, “Walk This Road”, on June 6 via Rhino Records.

The 10-track studio album will see former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald rejoin the band alongside Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston and John McFee both in the recording studio, writers room and on a 2025 global tour.

“Getting back in with the guys and playing again is great,” says McDonald. “In my heart I’ve always been a Doobie Brother. We’ve all remained friends over the years. We’ve all been enjoying it tremendously, even more than we thought we would.”

The spring saw The Doobie Brothers share more previews of “Walk This Road,” including the tracks “Learn To Let Go” and “Angels & Mercy” ahead of the June release of the first new album by the foursome in over 40 years, with Simmons, Johnston and McFee being honored at the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

While on the road across North America, the group taped their NPR Tiny Desk debut, with a set of reimagined iconic hits that would surface online on November.

After an enthusiastic start, Johnston told the audience: "It's not like this at gigs. We just played up in New York at Jones Beach last night and y'all are outdoing them. It's pretty cool."

The Doobie Brothers perform NPR Tiny Desk Concert

The Doobie Brothers made their NPR Tiny Desk debut with today's release of their four-song set of reimagined iconic hits.

The legendary band took over the Tiny Desk for the first time in a 55 year-long career that has produced some of the most unifying and inspiring songs of our times, which have uplifted multiple generations of music fans.

The NPR Tiny Desk performance saw one of the largest crowds in the history of the series, and gave fans a once-in-a-lifetime, intimate and important set from the rock and roll luminaries.

"There's often a moment during a Tiny Desk concert when an artist realizes that playing in an office was either the right or wrong thing to do," says producer Bobby Carter. "After starting the set with "Takin' It to the Streets," one of The Doobie Brothers' many hits, Tom Johnston tells the audience, "It's not like this at gigs. We just played up in New York at Jones Beach last night and y'all are outdoing them. It's pretty cool."

"For a band as accomplished as this to still encounter new experiences as performers says a lot about the energy bouncing around the walls of NPR headquarters."

The Doobie Brothers rock The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

The Doobie Brothers performed "Learn to Let Go" from their new studio album, “Walk This Road,” on the June 9 episode of CBS-TV’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and the program is streaming video of the appearance.

Released on June 6 via Rhino Records, the 10-track record sees former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald rejoin the band alongside Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston and John McFee both in the recording studio, writers room and on an upcoming global tour.

The late night appearance also saw The Doobie Brothers perform a pair of classics not included during the broadcast but shared online – 1973’s "Long Train Runnin'" and 1972’s "Listen to the Music."

The Doobie Brothers will be honored at the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 12 when Johnston, Simmons and McDonald will be inducted.

The Doobie Brothers are streaming their new album, “Walk This Road”, in sync with its release on June 6 via Rhino Records.

The 10-track studio album sees former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald rejoin the band alongside Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston and John McFee both in the recording studio, writers room and on an upcoming global tour.

“Getting back in with the guys and playing again is great,” says McDonald. “In my heart I’ve always been a Doobie Brother. We’ve all remained friends over the years. We’ve all been enjoying it tremendously, even more than we thought we would.”

“Walk This Road” was recorded in the winter of 2024 with producer John Shanks and showcases the band’s unique songwriting process and diverse stylistic perspectives. McDonald, Johnston and Simmons worked one-on-one with Shanks, bringing their individual vibes to their trusted producer and songwriting partner for what would be melded into one cohesive work, featuring the signature Doobie Brothers sound.

The result is an album comprised of and reliant on the songwriting contributions and individual musical styles of all three principal songwriters.

“We all sang on ‘Walk This Road,’ that’s a different kind of track for us to do,” explains Johnston. “I think it’s good to try to do things you haven’t done before, that’s the way it should be.”

The Doobie Brothers will be honored at the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 12 when Johnston, Simmons and McDonald will be inducted.

The Doobie Brothers have released “Angels & Mercy” as the latest single and preview of their forthcoming album, “Walk This Road.”

The 10-track studio album sees former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald rejoin the band alongside Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston and John McFee both in the recording studio, writers’ room and on an upcoming global tour.

“Walk This Road” was produced in Los Angeles with John Shanks and is the first new album by the foursome in over 40 years.

As for “Angels & Mercy”, the track features vocals by Simmons, McDonald, and John Cowan.

"It's fast and loud, maybe the most rocking thing on the album," says Simmons. "It's an intense song that was a lot of fun to record as well as just coming up with the parts. It's something that we can play live and have fun with it."

Simmons wrote the song about a desperate man at the end of his rope, looking for redemption. Listeners hear the struggle the man faces, and the promise of deliverance waiting for him if he were to reach out and grab it.

The Doobie Brothers will be honored at the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 12 when Johnston, Simmons and McDonald will be inducted.

The Doobie Brothers announce Walk This Road North American tour

The Doobie Brothers have announced dates for a North American tour in support of their forthcoming album, “Walk This Road.”

The 7-week series will open in Detroit, MI on August 4, with shows wrapping up in Toronto, Ontario on September 18.

The highly anticipated tour dates will feature the reunited Doobie Brothers lineup of Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston, John McFee and Michael McDonald and feature new music from their upcoming new studio album which is the first new album by the foursome in over 40 years.

Joining The Doobie Brothers on the trek will be special guests The Coral Reefer Band, who is the touring and recording band of beloved American singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett. The group performed with Buffett until his passing in 2023, and continues celebrating and performing his music at his request. The band reunited for the first time at 2024’s ‘Keep the Party Going: A Tribute to Jimmy Buffett’ concert at the Hollywood Bowl.

The Walk This Road summer tour presales start Tuesday, February 11 at 10am local time with general on sale to the public on Friday, February 14 at 10am local time. VIP packages for all dates will be available starting February 11.

The Doobie Brothers recently announced UK and Ireland dates which will include performing as special guests of Jeff Lynne’s ELO at the iconic band’s final concert in London’s Hyde Park, which is already sold out. Additional dates in the UK and Ireland are on sale now.

The Doobie Brothers announce The 2024 Tour

The Doobie Brothers have announced dates for an extensive US summer concert series.

Billed as The 2024 Tour, the trek will see the group hit 38 cities across the country, including many of which the band has not played in several years, when it opens in Seattle, WA on June 15.

Robert Cray and Steve Winwood will join the series on various dates, with Cray on the first leg and Winwood on the second.

The 2024 Tour follows The Doobie Brothers 50th Anniversary Tour which had Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons and John McFee back on the road together for the first time in over 25 years.

General public tickets for the tour will go on sale Friday, January 26 at 10 AM local time.

The Doobie Brothers recently delivered the No. 3 Rock News Story Of The Year and were named the No. 4 Rock News Artist Of The Year as part of the 2023 hennemusic Rock News Awards.

Rock News Artist of The Year No. 5 – THE DOOBIE BROTHERS


While The Doobie Brothers ended 2022 as nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the band failed to garner enough support to be recognized among the inductees announced in January for entry into the institution.

The group resumed its 50th anniversary tour in April; the series sees Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons and John McFee reunite with Michael McDonald.

After playing dates across Australia and Japan, The Doobie Brothers began a 2023 run of US and North American shows that would go on without Johnston.

"The Doobie Brothers are heartbroken to announce that Tom Johnston will be undergoing surgery following severe back pain and won't be able to join the band on the upcoming leg of their 50th Anniversary Tour,” shared the band on social media. "Per advisement of his physician, Johnston should not be performing at this time and is looking forward to returning to the road as soon as possible.”

The band played across North America into the fall before they stepped in to replace Steely Dan as openers on The Eagles Long Goodbye Tour for a handful of shows in November as Donald Fagen deals with unspecified health issues.

Tom Johnston leaves The Doobie Brothers tour due to health issue

The Doobie Brothers have announced that frontman Tom Johnston has left the band’s 50th anniversary tour to deal with an ongoing health issue.

"The Doobie Brothers are heartbroken to announce that Tom Johnston will be undergoing surgery following severe back pain and won't be able to join the band on the upcoming leg of their 50th Anniversary Tour,” shared the band on social media. "Per advisement of his physician, Johnston should not be performing at this time and is looking forward to returning to the road as soon as possible. The shows will go on - Pat Simmons, Michael McDonald, and John McFee will continue the tour beginning with their May 25th show at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL."

"I hope for a speedy recovery and can't wait to get back on the road and continue doing what I love," says Johnston. "I would like to thank Pat, Michael, John and the entire Doobie Brothers band for covering for me while I recover from back surgery. ... I'm sure they will bring it every night as they always do."

The classic rock band has been on the road playing shows on their 50th anniversary tour; they recently began their 2023 dates in Australia and Japan, which were followed by two shows in Hawaii.

The Doobie Brothers add Canadian dates to 50th anniversary tour

The Doobie Brothers have added a Canadian leg to their 50th Anniversary Tour.

The 2023 series – which sees Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons and John McFee reunite with Michael McDonald – will open in early May with previously-announced shows in Hawaii and Florida before resuming in Concord, NC on June 9.

The band will play ten shows in Canada during the month of October, kicking off in Halifax, NS and heading west across the country before wrapping in Abbotsford, BC.

The Doobie Brothers extend 50th anniversary US tour

The Doobie Brothers have extended their 50th anniversary US tour with the addition of 35 newly-added dates to the series.

The trek – which sees Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons and John McFee reunite with Michael McDonald – will open in early May with previously-announced shows in Hawaii and Florida before resuming in Concord, NC on June 9.

"We are thrilled to be back on the road in 2023 playing some cities we haven't gotten to yet on this tour," says Johnston about the US dates, which are scheduled into early October.

Tickets for all newly-announced dates will go on sale to the public beginning Friday, March 3 at 10am local time, with the exception of the Sparks, NV; New Brunswick, NJ; Morristown, NJ; Washington, DC; and Uncasville, CT dates, which go on sale beginning Friday, March 10 at 10am local time.
