Sammy Hagar restaurant closes suddenly; developer missing

A Sammy Hagar restaurant in Roseville, California closed Monday without warning and the developer who created it has gone missing, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.

The paper reports Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar and Grill on Vernon Street had a sign on its door Monday announcing its closure, according to the Roseville & Granite Bay Press Tribune. According to the city, the letter directed further inquiries to a Southern California public relations representative, who didn't respond to an email Monday afternoon. The restaurant’s phone number rang with no answer Monday, and a website for the restaurant appeared to have been taken down.

The letter stated the restaurant was closed temporarily due to unforeseen events, according to the Press Tribune. Event calendars for the venue on other sites showed live music performances there through Dec. 20.

Developer Steve Pease and partner John Yip formed Innova Restaurant Concepts LLC to open the restaurant, which was similar to others bearing Hagar’s name, many of them in airports.

Pease was last seen October 28 and reported as missing by co-workers to Roseville police three days later, said public information officer Dee Dee Gunther.

Pease’s co-workers told police they didn’t think foul play was involved in his disappearance. “Just that it was unusual for him to not keep in touch with friends and family,” she said. “It did appear he’d left voluntarily, wherever he’s gone.”

At press time, there has been no statement issued by Sammy in relation to the restaurant’s closing.

There has been no confirmation that Pease’s disappearance and the restaurant’s closing are related.

Hagar recently completed a series of shows in support of his new album, “Sammy Hagar & Friends.”

The project marks the Red Rocker’s first solo release in five years and sees him team up with a variety of artists, including Kid Rock, Nancy Wilson (Heart), Ronnie Dunn (Brooks & Dunn), Neal Schon (Journey, HSAS), Chickenfoot pals Chad Smith, Michael Anthony and Joe Satriani; Montrose bandmates Bill Church and Denny Carmassi, his solo band The Wabos and more.

The project recently debuted at No. 23 on the Billboard 200 to score Sammy the 11th Billboard Top 25 album of his career, as well as his highest-charting solo album in 17 years – since 1997’s “Marching To Mars.”
