Supersuckers release live Ramones cover featuring Eddie Vedder

Arizona rockers The Supersuckers have release a 2014 live performance of a Ramones classic that features Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder.

The pairing were joined by Blind Marky Feltchtone from Zeke for “I Believe In Miracles” from the Ramones' 1989 album, “Brain Drain”, during a June 19, 2014 gig that also doubled as the final, sold out show on the Supersuckers’ North American tour and after lead singer Eddie Spaghetti was diagnosed with throat cancer and was facing imminent surgery.

“Somehow Eddie had found out about my cancer diagnosis and put the word out that he’d like to come to the show and maybe do something with the band,” recalls Spaghetti, “especially with the impending struggle I was about to undertake with the whole cancer fright. The song was extra poignant.”

The performance was shot with multiple cameras, but the multitrack audio files were only discovered recently, buried within a hard drive.

“What a humbling experience for me on a personal level and what an amazing rock show for me on a professional level,” continues Spaghetti about the evening. “This recording really reflects that. What a document of a historical moment this is! Eddie absolutely KILLED it and the band was on FIRE that night.”

Spaghetti looks back especially at the outpouring of support for the journey he’d have to soon take for his cancer.

“It felt like everyone in the crowd was a friend of mine and there was a lot of love in the room,” he remembers. “From the first note ‘til the last, it just seemed like everyone was on our side.

“After the show, Eddie Vedder talked to me for a long time and pointed me in a direction to get my s**t cured,”
he adds. “He was super helpful with getting me hooked up with a support team of doctors and hospitals that I would probably not have had access to without his assistance. He also wrote a big fat check to help get me through the hard times of not being able to work that was to come. It was all above and beyond the call for him to provide all that help. I will be forever indebted to him. He’s a good one.”

Pearl Jam have performed the Ramones track regularly through the years, even releasing a live version from a 2003 benefit concert for the Louis Warschaw Prostate Cancer Centre just two months later as one of their Ten Club vinyl holiday singles.

Vedder inducted the Ramones into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2002.

Ramones stream It’s Alive 40th anniversary unboxing video

The Ramones are streaming an unboxing video for the newly-released expanded deluxe 40th anniversary edition of their classic 1979 live album, “It’s Alive.”

The 4CD/2LP package delivers the band’s New Year’s Eve 1977 show at the Rainbow Theatre in London alongside three unreleased concerts from the same week of the UK tour, including a December 28 gig at Top Rank in Birmingham, a December 29 performance at Victoria Hall in Stoke-On-Trent, and a December 30 stop at Friars in Aylesbury.

Taking its name from a 1974 horror film, “It’s Alive” was the last album to feature all four original band members: Dee Dee Ramone, Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone and Tommy Ramone; it features material from the group’s self-titled 1976 debut, 1977’s “Leave Home” and “Rocket To Russia.”

"That was one of the best shows they ever played,” long-time Ramones road manager Monte A. Melnick tells Billboard about the Rainbow Theatre concert. “Everything went well; they sounded great, and they were together, and the venue was terrific, and the crowd was great. It also sticks out in my memory because the crowd destroyed the first ten rows of the theater there, which was amazing at the time. Everybody was freaking out - they didn't expect the mosh pit in a seated theater. It was basically a hundred percent show, in my mind."

"We managed to convince the hierarchy at Rhino that this should be done, because there'd never been a proper release of It's Alive here in the United States," adds engineer Ed Stasium. "There was never a vinyl release, and the CD release in the '90s was very under the radar. Then we realized we had all these other shows as well that had never been listened to or mixed, so those two factors gave Rhino the impetus to actually release this thing.

“I think this is the best representation of The Ramones live that we're ever going to get. This is the Ramones at their peak, with Tommy on drums, the whole vibe is just fantastic."

Tommy – the last surviving member of the original Ramonesdied in 2014 at his home in Ridgewood, Queens, New York at 65 following treatment for bile duct cancer; Joey died from lymphoma in 2001, Dee Dee passed away from a heroin overdose in 2002, and Johnny died from prostate cancer in 2004.

“It’s Alive: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition” has been produced in a limited and numbered edition of 8,000 copies, and comes packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book; the band are streaming “Rockaway Beach” from the Top Rank gig to mark the set’s release.

The Ramones premiere lost Road To Ruin video for I’m Against It

The Ramones are streaming a previously-unreleased video for “I’m Against It”, to promote the recently-issued expanded 40th anniversary reissue of their 1978 album, “Road To Ruin.”

The lost footage was reportedly discovered in a record company vault, inside a 16mm film canister that hadn't been opened in 40 years.

The new clip appears to have been filmed during the same session as a video shoot for the project's third single, “She’s The One.”

The “Road To Ruin” reissue presents an original and new mix of the Ramones’ fourth album, which saw the introduction of drummer Marky Ramone after founding member Tommy Ramone exited the lineup to oversee production and songwriting for the group.

The set also includes a previously-unreleased recording of the band’s entire 1979 New Year’s Eve concert that was mixed live-to-air on WNEW-FM by Ed Stasium and sourced from Tommy’s original mixing board console cassette.

The first project by The Ramones to consciously alter their classic sound in an effort to achieve radio airplay ultimately failed, according to Tommy, as the set peaked at No. 103 on the US Billboard 200 following a No. 49 listing of the previous “Rocket To Russia” album.

Ramones stream Don’t Come Close remix from Road To Ruin reissue

The Ramones are streaming the 2018 remix of the track, “Don’t Come Close”, as the latest preview to the September 21 release of an expanded 40th anniversary reissue of their 1978 album, “Road To Ruin.”

"On the original, what stuck out were the clear guitars," producer Ed Stasium tells Billboard about the song. “It sounded so clean. It was a real step away from what the Ramones has done on their previous three records. There's acoustic guitars in there; there's a double track guitar solo. And when stripped down on the new mix, it's really just Marky, Dee Dee and Johnny with one Joey vocal, sounding as if was being played live right to tape with no overdubs whatsoever."

The “Road To Ruin” reissue presents an original and new mix of the Ramones’ fourth album, which saw the introduction of drummer Marky Ramone after founding member Tommy Ramone exited the lineup to oversee production and songwriting for the group.

The set also includes a previously-unreleased recording of the band’s entire 1979 New Year’s Eve concert that was mixed live-to-air on WNEW-FM by Stasium and sourced from Tommy’s original mixing board console cassette.

Ramones stream S.L.U.G. remix from expanded Road To Ruin reissue

The Ramones are streaming the 2018 remix of their rare track, “S.L.U.G.”, as the latest preview to the September 21 release of an expanded 40th anniversary reissue of their 1978 album, “Road To Ruin.”

A demo of the tune from 1977’s “Rocket To Russia” first surfaced on an expanded 2001 CD version of the project; the 2018 remix by producer Ed Stasium is one of two versions – the other a “basic rough mix” – that appear on the second disc of the forthcoming 3CD package alongside a series of previously-unreleased extras.

The “Road To Ruin” reissue presents an original and new mix of the Ramones’ fourth album, which saw the introduction of drummer Marky Ramone after founding member Tommy Ramone exited the lineup to oversee production and songwriting for the group.

The reissue presents the original mix of “Road To Ruin” alongside a new 40th anniversary one by producer Ed Stasium, as well as more than twenty unreleased recordings – including rough mixes for every album track and a pair of unreleased outtakes: “I Walk Out” and “S.L.U.G.”

The Ramones are streaming a rough mix demo of “Why Is It Always This Way?” – featuring alternate lyrics – as a preview to the November 24 release of an expanded 40th anniversary reissue of their 1977 album, “Rocket To Russia.”

The track is included on a disc of bonus material from sessions at New York’s Power Station as part of a 3CD Deluxe Edition that also delivers the record’s original mix alongside a new 40th anniversary one by the album's original engineer/mixer, Ed Stasium, and a third disc that presents a complete unreleased concert recording of the band’s December 19, 1977 show at the Apollo Centre in Glasgow, Scotland - just days before the group recorded the classic live album, “It’s Alive”, in London, UK.

AUDIO: Ramones preview Rocket To Russia 40th anniversary reissue

The Ramones are streaming a rough mix of “Cretin Hop” as a preview to the November 24 release of an expanded 40th anniversary reissue of their 1977 album, “Rocket To Russia.”

The Deluxe Edition will be produced in a limited and numbered edition and comes packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book. Along with the music, the set also features stories about the band by Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, details about making the album by Stasium, and extensive liner notes by renowned music writer and co-founder of Creem Magazine, Jaan Uhelszki.

The New York band’s third album – and last to feature their original lineup – included classic singles like “Sheena Is A Punk Rocker” and “Rockaway Beach” while peaking at No. 49 on the US Billboard 200.

Part of the Ramones ongoing reissue series, “Rocket To Russia” follows 2016’s 40th anniversary release of their groundbreaking 1976 self-titled debut album and this summer’s 40th anniversary edition of their 1977 record, “Leave Home.”

AUDIO: Ramones preview Leave Home expanded 40th anniversary reissue

The Ramones are streaming a 2017 remix of “Pinhead” as a preview to the forthcoming expanded 40th anniversary reissue of their 1977 album, “Leave Home.”

The follow-up to the New York punk band’s groundbreaking 1976 self-titled debut, “Leave Home” was produced by Tony Bongiovi and features a number of Ramones classics, including “Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment,” “Glad To See You Go” and “Commando.”

Due July 14, the 2017 reissue is packaged as a 3-CD/1-LP Deluxe Edition that delivers the record’s original mix alongside a new 40th anniversary one by the album's original engineer/mixer, Ed Stasium.

“Generally, the consensus was [the original] maybe sounded too clean,” writes Stasium in the liner notes. “The guitars panned completely left-right detracted from the band’s foreboding presence, and the reverb effects especially were a little excessive.”

The new 40th anniversary mix is also featured on the LP included in the Deluxe Edition.

A second disc features more than two dozen rare and unreleased recordings, including rough mixes for 15 tracks recorded for "Leave Home" at Sundragon studio in New York and a combination of 18 alternate mixes and instrumental versions of all tracks from the album.

The third disc presents an unreleased recording of The Ramones in concert at CBGB’s on April 2, 1977, just a few months after “Leave Home” was released.

The 40th Anniversary reissue is a limited and numbered edition of 15,000 copies worldwide and comes packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book. A full track list can be found below.

A single disc of the new remix, along with digital download and streaming options, will also be available.

Part of The Ramones' ongoing reissue series, “Leave Home” follows 2016’s 40th anniversary release of their 1976 debut with an expanded reissue that included a remastered stereo version of the album, a new mono mix and a pair of live sets at The Roxy in Los Angeles, CA.

Ramones update New York street naming ceremony plans

The Ramones are updating fans with news regarding the upcoming street naming ceremony event in New York this month.

The group will be honored with a street named Ramones Way in their hometown of Queens, NY.

Originally set for October 23, the band has announced a scheduling change to October 30 at 11:00 AM at the intersection of 67th Avenue and 110th Street in front of the main entrance of Forest Hills High School, which was attended by the band’s original lineup of John Cummings (Johnny Ramone), Jeffrey Hyman (Joey Ramone), Douglas Colvin (Dee Dee Ramone) and Thomas Erdelyi (Tommy Ramone).

Plans for Ramones Way were passed by the City Council in July.

"Our community of Forest Hills has been the home of many famous artists," says councilwoman Karen Koslowitz. "Many legendary musicians also attended Forest Hills High School including Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Burt Bacharach, as well as the members of the famous punk rock group the Ramones. The Ramones played well in the 1990s and received numerous accolades and awards including an induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Ramones Way follows Joey Ramone Place – at the corner of East 2nd Street and the Bowery near the legendary CBGB club – as the second New York street honor for the punk pioneers.

All four original Ramones have passed on: Joey in 2001 from lymphoma; Dee Dee in 2002 from a heroin overdose; Johnny in 2004 from prostate cancer; and, Tommy in 2014 from bile duct cancer.

Earlier this year, The Ramones marked the 40th anniversary of the release of their groundbreaking 1976 self-titled debut album with an expanded reissue that includes a remastered stereo version of the album, a new mono mix and a pair of live sets at The Roxy in Los Angeles, CA.

Ramones to have New York street named in their honor

The Ramones will be honored with a street named Ramones Way during an October 23 ceremony in their hometown of Queens, NY.

The street sign will be unveiled at the intersection of 67th Avenue and 110th Street in front of the main entrance of Forest Hills High School, which was attended by the band’s original lineup of John Cummings (Johnny Ramone), Jeffrey Hyman (Joey Ramone), Douglas Colvin (Dee Dee Ramone) and Thomas Erdelyi (Tommy Ramone).

Ramones Way follows a proposal passed by the City Council on July 14, according to councilwoman Karen Koslowitz, who sponsored the co-naming after speaking with Mitchell Leigh Hyman, the brother of Joey Ramone, at the opening of the "Hey! Ho! Let’s Go: Ramones And The Birth Of Punk" exhibit at the Queens Museum in April.

"Our community of Forest Hills has been the home of many famous artists," says Koslowitz. "Many legendary musicians also attended Forest Hills High School including Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Burt Bacharach, as well as the members of the famous punk rock group the Ramones. The Ramones played well in the 1990s and received numerous accolades and awards including an induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

"Working with Joey Ramone's brother and Forest Hills resident Mickey Leigh and fans of the band, I am so very pleased to honor our hometown musical heroes by renaming 67th Avenue and 110th Street in front of Forest Hills High School, right where it all started as 'The Ramones Way'."

"I'm just so proud that this is actually going to happen,” added Mickey Leigh. “My efforts have culminated into something great happening for the Ramones and Ramones fans everywhere."

The event will mark the second New York street honor for the band: following Joey Ramone's death in 2001, the corner of East 2nd Street and the Bowery – near the legendary CBGB club, where the band regularly performed back in the '70s — was renamed "Joey Ramone Place."

Tommy Ramone – the last of the original Ramones – died in 2014 at his home in Ridgewood, Queens, New York at 65 following treatment for bile duct cancer; Joey died from lymphoma in 2001, Dee Dee passed away from a heroin overdose in 2002, and Johnny died from prostate cancer in 2004.

The New York street event comes as the legendary punk pioneers are marking the 40th anniversary of the release of their groundbreaking 1976 self-titled debut album. An expanded reissue of the project was released earlier this year that includes a remastered stereo version of the album, a new mono mix and a pair of live sets at The Roxy.

“Hey! Ho! Let's Go: Ramones And The Birth Of Punk” is currently running at The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, CA; the exhibit explores the band’s legacy in the context of music history and pop culture while featuring items from more than 50 public and private collection across the world.

Grammy Museum to host Ramones exhibit

The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles will host an exhibit marking the 40th anniversary of the release of The Ramones' groundbreaking 1976 self-titled debut album.

Running September 16 through February 28, 2017, “Hey! Ho! Let's Go: Ramones And The Birth Of Punk” will explore the band’s legacy in the context of music history and pop culture while featuring items from more than 50 public and private collection across the world.

Included in the exhibit are contributions from Ramones tour manager Monte Melnick, Joey Ramone’s brother and Ramones’ original stage manager Mickey Leigh, and Johnny Ramone’s wife Linda.

Additional artifacts will also include personal memorabilia such as clothing and instruments.

"This is so amazing, the best Ramones collection ever," says Linda Ramone. "Gonna be a real cool time, fun for all! Gabba Gabba Hey!"

The Grammy Museum display is the second of two-part exhibition co-curated with the Queens Museum in New York, in collaboration with Ramones Productions Inc.

The Queens Museum hosted the first part between April and July that focused on the lasting influence the punk rockers had on their hometown, from their start in Queens to their history-making performances at CBGB and beyond.

The Ramones recently released a 40th anniversary expanded reissue of their 1976 album debut that includes a remastered stereo version of the self-titled project, a new mono mix and a pair of live sets at The Roxy.
