Bob Seger uninjured in Halloween house fire

Bob Seger and his wife were uninjured in an early morning fire at their Michigan home on Halloween morning.

According to The Detroit News, smoke detectors alerted the couple to the incident at their Orchard Lake Village residence before firefighters arrived to deal with the issue, which was confined to a chimney flue off the family room, investigators said Monday.

"The homeowners were present," said West Bloomfield Township fire inspector Dave Goff, when an alarm sounded around 6 a.m. and smoke was discovered erupting from an electrical outlet.

Firefighters had to break through some walls and ceilings in the home on Upper Straits Lake to douse the flames in the metal flue, Goff said, adding that there was water damage in the family room and a room underneath it.

“Now the task ahead of us is trying to determine, if we can, what caused the fire,” said fire marshal Byron Turnquist.

The 76-year-old Seger completed his Roll Me Away farewell tour in Philadelphia, PA in November of 2019; the 72-date series was ranked by Pollstar as the No. 3 North American Tour that year as it was seen by nearly 1 million fans.

With more than 75 million records sold worldwide, Seger was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

Earlier this year, the rocker released a vinyl reissue of the Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band’s “Live Bullet” album to mark its 45th anniversary.

Alice Cooper streams Bob Seger cover from Breadcrumbs EP

Alice Cooper is streaming a cover of the 1966 Bob Seger single, “East Side Story”, from his forthcoming EP “Breadcrumbs.”

Billed as “a tribute to the garage rock heroes from his hometown of Detroit,” the project is inspired by music from his time in the Motor City back in the day, before his family moved to Phoenix, AZ when he was an adolescent.

Due September 13, Cooper is joined on the EP by a host of fellow Michigan natives, including the MC5's Wayne Kramer, former Grand Funk Railroad member Mark Farner, ex-Detroit Wheels drummer Johnny "Bee" Badanjek, Mick Collins and jazz singer Paul Randolph.

"When people say, 'Well, what is your music?' I say it's Detroit rock - we just put a different slant on it," Seger tells Billboard. "At the bottom of it, all Alice Cooper records are Detroit, Chuck Berry, hard rock and then twisting it up into what we are lyrically and performance-wise. But you take the bottom of all those songs and they're all guitar-driven rock n' roll songs, which is what I associate as the Detroit sound. I wanted to use all Detroit players and songs either about Detroit or written by (Detroit musicians)."

Cooper got a chance to tell Seger about the recording when he caught him in Arizona on his current Farewell tour.

"I said, 'We're gonna do one of your songs,' and he probably thought I wanted to do one of the hits," Cooper recalls. "I told him 'East Side Story,' and he goes, 'What?!' I said, 'Yeah, we're gonna do that one.'

“I hope he likes it. I'm glad we gave it a second life."

Cooper is currently on tour across Europe.

“Thank you, Detroit!,” says Seger. “The fourth Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band show at DTE sold out during the fan club presale, so there will not be a Saturday on sale. We have booked two more shows for Detroit fans on Wednesday, June 19 and Friday, June 21.

Fans continue to await confirmation if the series will mark the final concerts by the music legend after six decades of live performances.

Vintage Bob Seger recordings highlight Heavy Music compilation

A collection of vintage Bob Seger material is featured on “Heavy Music: The Complete Cameo Recordings 1966-1967”, a new compilation set for release on September 7.

The package presents the series of singles Seger issued with his band, The Last Heard, one of several local Detroit groups the rocker worked with prior to his 1969 breakthrough with the Bob Seger System and the hit, “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man.”

The band delivered its first single, “East Side Story”, as a Top 5 local hit before releasing four more singles for the Cameo label over the course of the next year, culminating with “Heavy Music” in July of 1967.

Landing another local hit, Seger & The Last Heard appeared on the Detroit TV show “Swingin’ Time”, as “Heavy Music” climbed and peaked at No. 103 on the Billboard charts.

“Heavy Music: The Complete Cameo Recordings 1966-1967” marks the first time that all of the group’s recorded output will be made available since their original mid-60s releases as 45rpm singles.

The collection will be available as a single CD, a single 180-gram vinyl LP, and on all digital platforms.

“Heavy Music” is being previewed with the track, “Persecution Smith.”

Seger recently announced the first series of rescheduled shows from his Runaway Train tour that were postponed last fall when he underwent surgery “to attend to an urgent medical issue concerning his vertebrae”; the rocker will resume the US trek in Kansas City, MO on November 24.

Bob Seger announces rescheduled US concert dates

Bob Seger has announced the first series of rescheduled shows from his Runaway Train tour that were postponed last fall when he underwent surgery “to attend to an urgent medical issue concerning his vertebrae.”

Seger will resume the US trek in Kansas City, MO on November 24 as part of 13 rescheduled events, with more dates to be announced soon.

Tickets from the original shows will be honored at the make-up dates.

Recovering from the back issue, which sidelined the Detroit rocker while on the road in support of his 2017 release, “I Knew You When”, has been a frustratingly slow and steady process for the singer.

"They aren't letting me lift anything over five pounds,” Seger told Rolling Stones in January. “I can't do anything: no piano, no guitar, no nothing. But as soon as the pain stops, I'll be playing again."

Recorded in Nashville and Detroit and produced by Seger, “I Knew You When” features a mix of original tracks and covers of tunes by Lou Reed and Loenard Cohen; the set peaked at No. 25 on the US Billboard 200.

Bob Seger streams I Knew You When lyric video

Bob Seger is streaming a lyric video for the title track to his latest album, “I Knew You When.”

Written by Seger as a tribute to his late friend, Glenn Frey of The Eagles - who passed away in 2016 and to whom the album is dedicated to – the video presents a series of animated black-and-white sketches of Seger through the years and ends with an image of the pair together.

Seger and Frey grew up in Detroit and were part of the same local rock scene of the mid-1960s.

Seger previewed the fall 2017 release of his eighteenth album last January with a free download of “Glenn Song” as a tribute to the late Eagles guitarist on the first anniversary of his passing; the tune is available on the album's expanded deluxe edition.

The Michigan rocker postponed the remaining 19 dates on his Runaway Train tour last fall “upon receiving his doctor’s orders to attend to an urgent medical issue concerning his vertebrae.”

"I'm feeling better all the time," the 72-year-old rocker told Rolling Stone last month as he continues to recover at home. "They aren't letting me lift anything over five pounds. I can't do anything: no piano, no guitar, no nothing. But as soon as the pain stops, I'll be playing again."

Available via Seger’s website, the tune was originally planned for inclusion on the singer’s 2006 album, “Face The Promise”, but was shelved and reportedly recorded during sessions for last year's “I Knew You When” release.

“I write a lot of songs that people don’t hear,” Seger told the Detroit Free Press in 2003. “I just try to take the ones that sound the best - maybe have the best lyric, or the best melody. I really just enjoy the process. I fall in love with every single one of them. I finish ’em all, and I don’t think there’s a whole lot of difference between the bad ones and the good ones. But every now and then you hit something that you really like a lot. Every now and then you’ll nail one that’s really, really special. And that’s what you live for.

“I’ve got a ballad on the new album called ‘Finding Out,’ where I really nailed the lyric,” he said of the song. “So that’s real good. The whole process is a lot of fun. When I have time to do it.”

Seger postponed the remaining 19 dates on his Runaway Train tour last fall “upon receiving his doctor’s orders to attend to an urgent medical issue concerning his vertebrae.”

"I'm feeling better all the time," the 72-year-old rocker tells Rolling Stone as he continues to recover at his rural Michigan estate. "They aren't letting me lift anything over five pounds. I can't do anything: no piano, no guitar, no nothing. But as soon as the pain stops, I'll be playing again."

Seger produced and released his eighteenth album, “I Knew You When”, last November.

Bob Seger previews songs from new album I Knew You When

Bob Seger is previewing the November 17 release of his latest album, “I Knew You When”, with a teaser video featuring snippets of five songs from the project.

Fans can hear clips of the lead single – a cover of Lou Reed’s 1989 track, “Busload Of Faith” – alongside the title track, “Blue Ridge”, his take on Leonard Cohen’s “Democracy”, and “Gracile.”

Recorded in Nashville and Detroit and produced by Seger, the project is the follow-up to 2014’s “Ride Out”, which marked the singer’s highest US chart debut when that record entered the Billboard 200 at No. 3.

The standard version of “I Knew You When” will be available on 130 gram vinyl and CD, while the deluxe version will be offered on CD, digital download and via select streaming services.

The Deluxe Edition adds three tunes, including “Forward To The Past”, “Blue Ridge” and “Glenn’s Song”, Seger’s tribute to longtime friend and Eagles cofounder Glenn Frey, who passed away in 2016 and to whom the album is dedicated to.

Seger offered the song as both a free download and tribute to the late Eagles guitarist on the first anniversary of his passing in January.

Seger recently postponed the remaining 19 dates on his Runaway Train tour “upon receiving his doctor’s orders to attend to an urgent medical issue concerning his vertebrae.”

The rocker “is pleased to report that his recovery from surgery last month is progressing very well”, and that an announcement regarding rescheduled shows is expected soon.

Bob Seger streams Lou Reed cover from new album I Knew You When

Bob Seger is streaming audio of his cover of Lou Reed’s 1989 track, “Busload Of Faith”, as a preview to the November 17 release of his latest album, “I Knew You When.”

Recorded in Nashville and Detroit and produced by Seger, the project is the follow-up to 2014’s “Ride Out”, which marked the singer’s highest US chart debut when that record entered the Billboard 200 at No. 3.

Alongside the Reed cover, the standard 10-track edition of “I Knew You When” delivers eight Seger originals and his take on Leonard Cohen’s 1992 song, “Democracy.”

"It's obviously not meant to be a hit," said the singer at the time. "There's no chorus per se or title section or anything. The idea was just to honor his memory and talk, very specifically, about my impression of him in 1966 when we first met."

The pair grew up in Detroit and were part of the same local rock scene of the mid-1960s.

Seger sang "Heartache Tonight" (a song he co-wrote for The Eagles in 1979) at Frey’s memorial ceremony, a performance he revived when the group received the Kennedy Center Honors last December.

The standard version of “I Knew You When” will be available on 130 gram vinyl and CD, while the deluxe version will be offered on CD, digital download and via select streaming services.

Seger recently postponed the remaining 19 dates on his Runaway Train tour “upon receiving his doctor’s orders to attend to an urgent medical issue concerning his vertebrae.”

Bob Seger catalog now available via streaming services

Bob Seger has made the majority of his catalog available to streaming services after years as one of the last major artist holdouts to the format.

The Detroit rocker has released thirteen albums – including three greatest hits sets – to streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Napster and Slacker Radio.

Ten of Seger’s albums are also available via digital download for the first time, including his 1969 debut, “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”, 1975’s “Beautiful Loser”, 1976’s “Night Moves” and “Live Bullet”, 1978’s “Stranger In Town”, 1980’s “Against The Wind”, 1986’s “Like A Rock”, 1991’s “The Fire Inside”, and his 1994 US Diamond-selling (10 million copies) “Greatest Hits” package and it’s 2003 companion, “Greatest Hits 2.”

Also issued to streaming services are 1981’s live set, “Nine Tonight”, 1982’s “The Distance” and 2011’s “Ultimate Hits” – all previously available for download.

Seger has been looking forward to making his music available to stream and download for years, and he explained to Rolling Stone in 2014 what the holdup was in getting the situation resolved.

"It's an ongoing issue with my manager and Capitol Records," he said. "They agreed to something many years ago about new media and they don’t want to live up to it. Until that's resolved, we let very little out ... It does [frustrate me]. I wish people could get any song at any time."

There appears to be more work ahead, as several albums from Seger’s extensive catalog remain unavailable, including 1969’s “Noah”, 1970’s “Mongrel”, 1971’s “Brand New Morning”, “Smokin O.P.'s” (1972), 1973’s “Back In 72” and 1974’s “Seven” – and his three most recent releases: 1995’s “It’s A Mystery”, 2006’s “Face The Promise” and 2014’s “Ride Out.”

Last month, Seger’s “Greatest Hits” received the RIAA’s Diamond Award commemorating sales of 10 million units. In celebration of the achievement, he re-released the project as a 2LP double album in 150gram and 180gram black vinyl, with a 150gram purple vinyl version available exclusively via BobSeger.com for a limited time.

The singer’s debut, “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”, was also re-released in 150gram black and for the first time in 150gram blue vinyl.

Seger recently revealed the initial dates for a 2017 North American tour that will begin in Toledo, OH on August 24, with shows running to the end of October and more to be announced – including stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis and more.
