Rock News Artist of The Year No. 3 – JOURNEY

Following a busy 2018 that saw them perform an extensive tour with Def Leppard, Journey appeared headed for a quiet 2019 when founder and guitarist Neal Schon began January with news of his own solo “Journey Through Time” tour.

The series would see Schon celebrate the band’s legendary catalog and rich history, including rarely-performed tunes from the San Francisco outfit’s first three albums: 1975’s “Journey”, 1976’s “Look Into The Future”, and 1977’s “Next.”

Two weeks before opening night, Schon made headlines when he underwent emergency gallbladder removal surgery, while a public invitation for former bandmate Steve Perry to join him at the series launch failed to materialize.

In March, Journey released "Live In Japan 2017: Escape + Frontiers", a new live package featuring complete performances of a pair of their classic 1980s albums from a 2017 show in Japan.

Schon and his wife, Micheale, filed a lawsuit against concert promoters Live Nation over claims that she was violently assaulted by a security guard at a Journey show in Indiana two years ago.

The alleged incident – which the couple said took place at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, IN on March 14, 2017 – occurred when the guard reportedly confronted Michaele with force in an attempt to clear the area in the pit, despite her activity in the space throughout the show.

Journey would resurface in September for a series of US east coast dates in advance of a second Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace that ran throughout October and will see them return for a series of shows at the end of the year.

The band will headline an extensive, five-month 2020 tour of North America that will open in May and run to September.

Journey members Schon, Jonathan Cain and former vocalist Perry are among the nominees under consideration for entry into The Songwriters Hall Of Fame next year; the Hall will host its 51st Annual Induction & Awards Gala in New York City in June.
