The seven-show series will see Greta Van Fleet return to the stage for events in Tennessee and Connecticut in August, with shows in Chicago in September and Los Angeles in October.
"It is truly a monumental time in history to be able to perform again," says the band. "We are honored to experience these special shows with all of those who will be in attendance. Let us, once again, come together & celebrate the privilege of life."
David Lee Roth has released a new track entitled “Giddy-Up!”
The tune was one of five songs included in last fall’s The Roth Project, an immersive interactive online comic narrated by the rocker that featured five songs from an unreleased album he recorded with Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 in 2014.
Roth first worked with John 5 on his 1998 release, “DLR Band”, before the guitarist went on to join Marilyn Manson’s band; he co-wrote one of three original tracks on Roth’s 2003 covers project, “Diamond Dave”, before beginning his current tenure with Zombie in 2005.
Queen will reissue their 1981 “Greatest Hits” collection in a series of new formats on July 2 as part of the band’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
The original compilation stands alone as the first and only album to have sold over 6 million copies in the band’s native UK (with global sales in excess of 25 million), where it has now spent over 900 weeks on the UK Albums Chart, with the Official Charts Company stating that one in four British households already own a copy of the album.
The 2021 reissue series will see “Greatest Hits” available as a brand new collector’s edition CD with exclusive slipcase cover, as well as a limited edition Cassette format.
In addition, the Official Queen Online Store will exclusively offer the collector’s edition “Greatest Hits” CD and four highly-limited band member colour cassettes (1000 copies only); this version of the Slipcase CD encases a CD-sized print personally signed by band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
Formed in London in 1970, Queen released their self-titled debut in 1973 and went on to become one of the biggest-selling artists in music history; the band were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2001, and all four original members were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003.
Queen frontman Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991 at the age of 45 due to complications from AIDS, while bassist John Deacon retired from the music industry in 1997.
Queen hooked up with Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers for a pair of world tours in the mid-2000s before wrapping things up in 2009 – the same year May and Taylor would perform with Adam Lambert for the first time on the season 8 finale of American Idol. The pairing regrouped again to perform at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards and launched a tour under the Queen + Adam Lambert banner the following year … and have been active ever since.
Anthrax revisit their tour in support of the 1988 album, “State Of Euphoria”, in the latest installment in the band’s 40th anniversary video series.
The album “came out in September of ‘88 and we were already on tour,” explains guitarist Scott Ian. “We had started with Maiden and the Monsters Of Rock bill, that started in Europe in July, I think, of ’88. Most of the shows, it was like Maiden and KISS and us.”
The trek was “right in the middle of the game where things started to evolve a little more as we went,” recalls singer Joey Belladonna. “And we had the Ozzy tour, and packed arenas with mounds of cars.”
Fan support during the tour helped “State Of Euphoria” deliver Anthrax their highest US chart placement to date when it reached No. 30 on the Billboard 200 while earning Gold status for sales of 500,000 copies in the country.
Episode 12 in the Anthrax 40 series features insight into the band from a lengthy list of fellow rockers, including Brendon Small, Andreas Kisser, Jose Mangin, Shavo Odadjian, Rob Trujillo, Vernon Reid, John Jackson, Henry Rollins, John Tempesta and NOTMAN.
Formed in Queens, NY in 1981, Anthrax will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a very special livestream performance on Friday, July 16 that will see the band deliver a deep cuts set that will pull from their entire career-spanning catalog.
Royal Blood are streaming a new remix of their “Typhoons” single, “Limbo”, by French DJ and musician SebastiAn.
"The producer has stripped the raw barrage of the original version, instead emphasizing spacious beats, luminous disco guitar, and Mike Kerr's fluid falsetto,” says the band’s label. “The resulting mix captures Royal Blood's energy and dynamics with some fresh flair."
“Huge thank you to SebastiAn for reworking Limbo into a dancefloor banger,” says the duo of bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher.
“Limbo” is the third single from “Typhoons”, which the UK duo produced themselves, with some additional work handled by Paul Epworth and Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.
“Typhoons” earned Royal Blood their third straight UK No. 1, following similar success with their 2014 self-titled debut and 2017’s “How Did We Get So Dark?”
Pink Floyd are streaming video of a 1970 performance of their 1968 classic, “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun.”
The band were filmed in concert at the Kralingen Music Festival in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on June 28, 1970.
Originally recorded during Pink Floyd’s transition from the Syd Barrett-era to the David Gilmour lineup, the track from the group’s second album, “A Saucerful Of Secrets”, has the distinction of being the only song in their catalog to feature all five band members.
Pink Floyd’s legacy of legendary performances was celebrated with last month’s release of “Live At Knebworth 1990”; the project delivers the band’s headline appearance at the Silver Clef Winners concert at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire, where they played before 120,000 fans alongside Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Dire Straits, Genesis and more.
Originally broadcast globally via MTV, the event was in aid of the Nordoff-Robbins music therapy charity, with profits going towards setting up the performing arts BRIT School near London.
Queen guitarist Brian May is sharing the inspiration behind the band’s 1977 classic, “We Will Rock You”, in the latest episode of the group’ weekly video feature, The Greatest.
May’s idea to create the anthemic opening track on the group’s sixth studio album, “News Of The World”, came to him one night after Queen performed before what he considered an unusually enthusiastic crowd on their A Day At The Races Tour.
“Bingley Hall. This great hall in the Midlands,” recalls May. “It was heaving. It’s all sweaty and hot, the atmosphere is great. Everybody’s jumping up and down, making a noise, and what they were doing was singing along. In those days, it was really new, I have to tell you. You just didn’t go to concerts where people sang to rock bands. But on this particular occasion, they didn’t stop.
"I think I’d gone to sleep thinking – ‘what could an audience do, what could you ask them to do?’ They’re all crammed in there, they can’t do much, but they can stamp their feet they can clap their hands, and they can sing.”
May saw a bigger impression presented by that hot, sweaty night’s events.
“It just kind of came to me that we were all part of this scenario where we’re all young, and full of enthusiasm, we think we can change the world, and we get out there…we will rock you!,” he continues. “’We Will Rock You’ means we will change the world, and we feel like we can do it when we’re young. And then …looking ahead to when you get old, what happens when you get old and all this stuff has kind of blown over, and you stand there and you think ‘what happened, did I change the world? What happened, who am I, and what is the world to me now?
“I would like to leave the planet knowing that I just made a little bit of difference to the amount of decency that there is in the world. Not sure I can do that, but I’m still trying. So that, in a nutshell, is what 'We Will Rock You' is about.”
“We Will Rock You” served as the b-side to “We Are The Champions”, the lead single from “News Of The World”; both songs went on to become inspirational anthems in their own right and have continued to maintain a presence at sporting events around the globe to this day.
The Rolling Stones have released a pair of lyric videos to mark the anniversary of their classic 1968 single, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”
Backed by the b-side “Child Of The Moon” and issued 53 years ago this week, the instant classic topped the charts in several countries, including the band’s UK homeland, while reaching No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
“Jumpin’ Jack Flash” was inspired by Keith Richards’ gardener, Jack Dyer, after Mick Jagger was awakened one morning at his bandmate’s house to the sound of the handyman’s footsteps; Richards put the blame on “Jumpin’ Jack.” The song’s opening lyric, “I was born in a crossfire hurricane”, refers to Richards being born in Dartford, England during WWII when air raid sirens were a regular occurrence.
The Rolling Stones recorded the tune with producer Jimmy Miller at Olympic Studios in April and May of 1968.
“With 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' being among the greatest Rock 'n Roll singles of all time we knew we had to create a visual that somehow matched the swagger and excitement of the track,” says video directors Tom Readdy and Lucy Dawkins. “With that guitar riff and Jagger's exceptional searing vocal we set out to create animations that hit and emphasized every beat, guitar part and syllable sung. The simplicity of the color palette, along with rough, hand drawn elements all come together to create an energetic visual to accompany the joyful rush of adrenaline that is 'Jumpin’ Jack Flash'.”
Like its A-Side, “Child Of The Moon” was recorded at Olympic Studios with Jimmy Miller; lyrically it was a love letter to Jagger’s then-girlfriend, recording artist Marianne Faithfull.
Readdy and Dawkins created a lyric video for the song, saying it “is inspired by the natural landscape and elements in the promo video for the track from 1968 directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg. The song was unfinished during the sessions for ‘Their Satanic Majesties Request’ and often seen as the postscript to the psychedelic era of the band. We leant into this vibe to create ‘60s inspired bespoke illustrations of flowers, leaves and patterns that grow in and around the ornate typeface. This typeface incidentally featured on an original 7" picture sleeve for 'Jumpin’ Jack Flash’/‘Child Of The Moon’."
Newly-remastered versions of both songs by engineer Bob Ludwig have been released digitally and can also be heard on all streaming platforms.
Billed as “The Brothers”, the lineup of drummer Jaimoe Johanson, guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks, bassist Oteil Burbridge and percussionist Marc Quinones were joined at Madison Square Garden for the one-time event by Duane Trucks and Reese Wynans, and special guest Chuck Leavell.
“The Brothers/March 10, 2020/Madison Square Garden/New York, NY” took place just two days before the live music industry was effectively shut down as the coronavirus pandemic began to spread across the US.
The 2020 tribute came 50 years after the group formed in Jacksonville, FL in the spring of 1969, and six years since they performed their final show at New York’s Beacon Theatre on October 28, 2014.
According to Rolling Stone, the live package will be available in multiple formats, including 4CD, 3DVD, or 2Blu-Rays sets, and the video will also be streamed on Nugs and Amazon Prime’s streaming service Coda.
The group are sharing video of a live version of “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’” from the forthcoming collection.
The Stone Temple Pilots are sharing video of a 1997 performance of their single, “Lady Picture Show”, ahead of the July 23 release of an expanded reissue of their third album, “Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop.”
The track is part of a complete concert taped at the Club La Vela in Panama City Beach, FL on March 14, 1997 that is featured on the 25th anniversary package alongside a remastered version of the original album and recordings of alternate versions and mixes of several songs from the set.
The Florida performance was filmed for an MTV Spring Break special.
“Back in 1997, MTV was a tour de force in the music world,” drummer Eric Kretz tells Rolling Stone. “To play a whole set in the surroundings of a beach with a crowd that was having more fun than us was really fantastic.”
"Tiny Music" was recorded in late 1995 with producer Brendan O'Brien at the Westerly Ranch in Santa Ynez, CA; the project debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to sales of more than 2 million copies in the region.

Anthrax share the story behind their fourth album, 1988’s “State Of Euphoria”, in the latest installment in the band’s 40th anniversary video series.
Produced by Mark Dodson and the band, the project came with high hopes for success after years of extensive touring had earned Anthrax a reputation amongst music fans for their live performances.
Introduced with the lead single, “Make Me Laugh”, “State Of Euphoria” delivered Anthrax their highest US chart placement to date when it reached No. 30 on the Billboard 200 while earning Gold status for sales of 500,000 copies in the country.
Anthrax will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a very special livestream performance on Friday, July 16 that will see the band deliver a deep cuts set that will pull from their entire career-spanning catalog.
Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has issued a statement on the recent sex video scandal that led to his dismissal from the band earlier this week.
The married rocker and Lutheran pastor has admitted to engaging in a series of intimate online conversations with a young woman that recently resulted in the leak of a sexually explicit videos and images by a third party.
Both Ellefson and the woman confirmed publicly that the interactions took place as initiated by the fan, that there was no “child grooming” involved, and that the two had never met in person.
"Recently, a very private video was illegally posted on the internet and false allegations were made against me,” shared Ellefson in a statement. "The actions in the video were between two consenting adults and were recorded without my knowledge. I am working with Scottsdale Police Department in their investigation into charges regarding revenge pornography to be filed against the person who posted this video. Also, my lawyers are preparing a defamation lawsuit to be filed against this person. This person will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
“I am taking this time to be with my family. I wish my bandmates the best with their upcoming tour."
Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine originally said the group were “watching developments closely” as part of their first comments on the situation; this week, the singer advised fans that “David Ellefson is no longer playing with Megadeth and that we are officially parting ways with him. We do not take this decision lightly. While we do not know every detail of what occurred, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed now is enough to make working together impossible moving forward.”
Mustaine co-founded Megadeth with Ellefson in Los Angeles in 1983 following the guitarist’s dismissal from Metallica; the bassist was in the lineup until the group’s 2003 breakup and, while they reformed a year later, he rejoined the band in 2010.

Dave Grohl co-hosted the May 24 episode of NBC-TV’s The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, and the program is sharing video highlights from the broadcast.
The rocker traded jokes with Fallon during the opening monologue before settling in for some musical games with The Roots.
In addition to plugging the new Foo Fighters album, “Medicine At Midnight”, Grohl also spoke about the new Paramount+ series, “From Cradle To Stage”, and his documentary about touring entitled “What Drives Us”, which features interviews with an assortment of musicians at different levels of the business, from newcomers to Ringo Starr.
Grohl couldn’t hide his fandom of The Beatles while sharing the real-life experience of getting to know Paul McCartney after performing with him through the years; the music icon and his wife even dropped his house for a visit while in Los Angeles.
“The first thing I did was hide all the Beatles stuff,” Grohl recalled. “You never know how much Beatles stuff you have until a Beatle comes over… And there was a piano in our living room, and as [McCartney] was leaving, it was like he couldn’t resist, and he just sat down and started playing ‘Lady Madonna’ on the piano in my living room.
“And then my daughter, Harper, who was like four years old at the time, she runs into the kitchen, she gets a coffee cup, fills it full of spare change and puts it on the piano like a tip jar.”
The Foo Fighters were recently announced as one of the artists set to be inducted into the 2021 edition of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame; the band will be honored alongside Tina Turner, Todd Rundgren, The Go-Go’s, Carole King and Jay-Z at the upcoming 36th annual Induction event in Cleveland, OH in October.
Anthrax revisit their merger of rap and metal on their 1987 EP, “I’m The Man”, in the latest installment in the band’s 40th anniversary video series.
Considered one of the first rap-metal songs, the title track – which features samples of tracks by Metallica, The Beastie Boys and Run-DMC, among others – was issued as the set’s lead single.
Episode 10 in the Anthrax 40 series features insight into the project from band members, DMC, and fellow rockers Rob Zombie and Corey Taylor.
Anthrax’s second EP arrived on the heels of their third album, “Among The Living”`; the record delivered the highest US chart position when it reached No. 53 on the Billboard 200, while also going on to become their first million-seller in the region.
Anthrax will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a very special livestream performance on Friday, July 16 that will see the band deliver a deep cuts set that will pull from their entire career-spanning catalog.
Robert Plant is launching the fourth season of his podcast series, Digging Deep, with a look back at a track from his 2017 album, “Carry Fire.”
Joined by co-host Matt Everitt, Plant discusses what a touring musician does when he can’t go on tour, as well as some of the musical rarities and curios that he uncovered at home during lockdown.
The pair also focus in on “Bluebirds Over The Mountain”; written and recorded by Ersel Hickey in 1958 and made a hit by Ritchie Valens that same year, the Led Zeppelin rocker brought in Pretenders vocalist Chrissie Hynde for his own version.
Plant’s second studio release with The Sensational Space Shifters – following 2014’s “Lullaby and the Ceaseless Roar” – “Carry Fire” peaked at No. 14 on the US Billboard 200 while reaching No. 3 on the UK charts and the Top 10 in several other countries.
Inspired by the podcast series, Plant released a collection of songs, "Digging Deep: Subterranea", last fall; the project presented 30 songs from the singer’s extensive solo career and includes three previously-unreleased tracks.
Plant recently announced a series of UK live shows with his new band, Saving Grace; the 2021 series will open in Tenbury Wells on June 22, and include appearances at the Black Deer Festival in June and the Underneath The Stars Festival in late July.
Ann Wilson has released an EP of archival songs recorded with the band that she was in before Heart.
The Daybreaks were a short-lived Seattle, WA hard rock group fronted by Wilson in the late 60s; they performed in various small venues, recorded a handful of songs and released a 7” single in 1969.
“In late 1968, the original Daybreaks agreed to work for two country songwriters who were looking for a group willing to record them for studio time in return,” Wilson explains. “On January 9th, 1969 the band recorded two 45rpm recordings (2 records – 4 sides) at Kearney Barton’s Audio Studio. In 1969 Seattle’s own Topaz Records released a limited pressing as Ann Wilson & The Daybreaks.
“These are my first recordings which only sold a handful of copies, but it was the start of my career. We recorded this in a tiny studio in downtown Seattle under the Monorail. It may as well have been Abbey Road because we’d never been in any recording studio before. The session came about because we were helping my friend Chris Blaine with a country band. That band only had a few songs, and there was a little time left in the day they’d booked, so we cut the three covers, and snuck in an original song of our own (‘Through Eyes And Glass’).”
A digital edition of The Daybreaks EP is now available, with a limited edition 10” vinyl version due in July.
After leaving The Daybreaks, Wilson eventually teamed up with members of the band Hocus Pocus in the early 1970s; the lineup became White Heart before shortening their name to Heart by the time Nancy Wilson joined in 1974.
Heart released their album debut, “Dreamboat Annie”, in 1975, and went on to sell more than 35 million albums worldwide; they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013. Ann Wilson "The Daybreaks"

Megadeth has parted ways with bassist David Ellefson in the wake of a sex video scandal that included the leak of sexual conversations with a woman other than his wife.
"We are informing our fans that David Ellefson is no longer playing with Megadeth and that we are officially parting ways with him,” announced founder Dave Mustaine. “We do not take this decision lightly. While we do not know every detail of what occurred, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed now is enough to make working together impossible moving forward.
"We look forward to seeing our fans on the road this summer, and we cannot wait to share our brand new music with the world. It is almost complete."
Earlier this month, a series of intimate online conversations and explicit videos shared between a young woman and Ellefson were leaked by a third party, which led to both the rocker and the woman confirming that the interactions took place as initiated by the fan, that there was no “child grooming” involved, and that the two had never met in person.
The Mustaine update follows the band’s recent public statement about the situation, where the group said they were “watching developments closely” and that “there are clearly aspects of David's private life that he has kept to himself,” adding, “As this situation unfolds, it is important that all voices be heard clearly and respectfully. We look forward to the truth coming to light.”
Ellefson, who became a Lutheran pastor nearly a decade ago, and his wife Julie have been married for 27 years; they have two children.
Mustaine co-founded Megadeth with Ellefson in Los Angeles in 1983 following the guitarist’s dismissal from Metallica; the bassist was in the lineup until the group’s 2003 breakup and, while they reformed a year later, he rejoined the band in 2010.
Megadeth have been working on the follow-up to their 2016 album, “Dystopia.”
Greta Van Fleet have announced a series of concert dates on their limited-run Strange Horizons US tour.
The four-show series in support if their new album, “The Battle At Garden’s Gate”, will see the group return to the stage for events in Tennessee and Connecticut in August, with shows in Chicago in September and Los Angeles in October.

The Stone Temple Pilots are sharing a previously-unreleased “early version” of their 1996 single, “Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart”, from the forthcoming expanded reissue of their third album, “Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop.”
“So usually we would have one or two songs per album where we would record the music and not have any vocal ideas to accompany us,” drummer Eric Kretz tells Stereogum. “With this early version of ‘Trippin,’ Scott had the rhythm tracks to work off of and this was his first day at singing the song. I really enjoy hearing him trying to work out the tongue twisting verse lyrics that are such a great counter rhythm to the music in the verses.”
“Trippin’” followed “Big Bang Baby” as the second single from the album, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200 on its way to sales of more than 2 million copies in the country.
Due July 23, the expanded 2021 reissue will feature a remastered version of the original album, alternate versions and mixes of several of the songs, and a complete concert taped at the Club La Vela in Panama City Beach, Florida, on March 14, 1997.
